The fact that you are doing this with the simple equipment you have is incredible. Most people do not have this kind of determination for this kind of work. Your videos are very well made. Just the thought of you moving the camera around and showing all the angles and then editing these videos after all that hard work is inspiring!
Two things I learned trying to move heavy longs -- a scissor jack from a car can make a world of difference when trying to get a stuck log up and over things, or out of a crotch.... and a Maasdam rope-puller sure is handy! I know a lot of folks rave over electrical tools because they're so handy and fast, but all it takes is one bad wire or fuse to make them useless. The rope-puller is way slower, but it's simple and robust. Plus, you can use the rope all over the homestead for a lot of things when you're not needing to pull. Lately, I've been thinking about buying one of those big yellow cones that goes over the leading end of the log to make dragging easier, but I think my dragging days are done.
Well planned & well done ! Whole project was a challenge. I must admit, i`ve never seen a cant hook with a handle that long 😉 Guess You dulled your chain a bit in that dirt. Enjoyed watching ! Thanx for sharing !
Thank you very much! Yeah I definitely dulled it. I should have taken more time to get it sharp before cutting up the tree. The cant hook is heavy but comes in very handy when I need lots of leverage.
Future projects, fix wench, build a portable bridge something you can build at home ,take apart and assemble on site. Maybe you can cut a small section of the tree and see if you can see it on line.
Great idea with the portable bridge. Yeah I've got a list of projects. Winch is at the top as we need it if we ever get any snow this winter to run the blade on the side by side.
Very good advice. I didn't have much option because I had very little room coming into the creek, but I'm going to try and level it out more with the tractor this Friday when it warms up and will also give a little bit of an angle to attack the creek leading into it.
As others have said, use the winch to pull the kubota forwards, also raise the front of the log you are towing so it doesn't dig in. Mount the towing chain higher to do this
Yup, the winch was broken or I would have used it. You are right on the log, I could have raised it way higher, just got lazy. Thank you for watching and the advice.
just a pointer instead of making your undercut from the bottom [ particularly when elevated ] plunge cut your log 1/3 then down. when you make your top cut you wont have that cut and pause and cut problem. safer too! Be safe , Have fun, and be real...J
I'm sure that would work. That little tractor is so tippy on anything off camber so I try not to do too much with it off of flat land. A braver soul would probably just use it to pull the trailer.
Next time you might just build up the creek bed with some solid limbs horizontally with the water flow to eliminate the dip that has you getting stuck. Temporary yes, but it would get you moving. New subscriber, hope your back is feeling better.
By the way it looks like it’s not cutting so well, and the fine sawdust, It looks like your chain is not sharp, You touched the ground many times during clearing. It happens to me all the time, and I’m too lazy to stop progress and go sharpen the chain. Thanks for sharing.
Good eye. Sounds like experience speaking. I did sharpen it but didn't do a very good job. I need to take my time on the next one. Thanks for watching!
Nice. Got a question: When dealing with a long suspended length of sound timber that's going to fold down on both sides, why not put a nice wide notch into the top of the stem? Make it symmetrical and under half way through the stem, but not too small . Now cut up to meet the centre of the vee. You'll lose a tiny bit of timber but the stem will fold about the base of the vee in a nice controlled manner. Like a hinge in directional felling (but no step). This'll give you time and you won't have to mess with wedges or kicks. Just saying.....
That's a great idea. I'll be doing that in the future. There was enough weight that the wedges were being crushed as the log fell anyways. You might have noticed when I hit the one with my axe it snapped the tip off it. My favorite wedge at that. So I think your technique will be how I go moving forward. Thanks for taking the time!
Yeah it's what I have for now. I've been looking at cheap old trucks to see if I can build my own logging rig. Something that I can beat up and not worry about.
Yeah I have to fix it. Just didn't want to walk all the way across the timber up and down hills to grab the tools. I was using the lock pedal but the hitch had my back wheels off the ground and it was too slick to climb with the fronts. Thanks. I've been stretching and doing back exercises to try and get myself in better shape. All the twisting and awkward movements while moving logs and running the saw is taking its toll. Thanks for watching!
Haha I didn't say I was a bright fella. Watching the video as I edited made me realize how much I strain my back and why it's sore in the first place. I'll be taking better care of it before I have no back left.
Haha, yeah I'm saving my pennies for a 70cc saw. The 20 inch bar gets the job done, but a longer bar would make life way easier. Yeah I'm leaning towards elm as well. I'll cut into it soon and see.
@MacJackal yeah it's crazy how much the the name brand saws have climbed up in price but I'm telling you I bought a neo tec clone saw of a Husqvarna 372xp with a 24 inch bar after break in and a little tuning that saw is a monster and the best part is all the Husqvarna parts will inter change with it and as fare as that 40 degree weather send some of it up my way it was -20 degrees last night in Wisconsin and that's not including the wind chill
Yup. Of course when I get stuck is when I notice the winch isn't working. I'm going to clean up the wires at the battery terminals and see if that cures it.
I found out it wasn't working while I was stuck or I would have. I'll be fixing it this week because it's also what we use to run the snow plow, so if we get any snow I'll be in trouble.
what a find Mac. Nice logs. Can't wait to see them milled.

Great c bita storm damage be some nice timber. Cheers

Good job! Some days it's all about overcoming challenges to get to the main project. :)
You bet! Thanks!!
Spin those wheels! I was immediately wanting you to build a bridge. haha
Hahaha, yeah a bridge might be the way to go!
Drive around the flying tree... makes a good landmark
It would have been a cool landmark.
Usaha memotong yang bagus kawan, salam dari Indonesia🙏🙏
That's what I love ...the challenge
You and me both!
when crossing a draw attack at slight angle and you'll avoid getting hung up!!
Very good advice. I didn't have much option because I had very little room coming into the creek, but I'm going to try and level it out more with the tractor this Friday when it warms up and will also give a little bit of an angle to attack the creek leading into it.
Yer like idea of pullin the logs closer. Few pulleys 3 to 1 systym if no strait drag. But yer always easy watchin at home. Thanks
Thanks! I need to get some long rope or cable so I can set up a good pulley system.
@MacJackal yer messin around with pulleys if fun. And youve got lota trees to use.
As others have said, use the winch to pull the kubota forwards, also raise the front of the log you are towing so it doesn't dig in. Mount the towing chain higher to do this

That's a great idea. I'll give it a shot. I need to use the plunge cut more. I'm slowly building up my bag of tricks one log at a time. Thank you!
Yer that cuts great' used saw few years before shown. Just works.
Hello everyone, hey that tree looks very challenging good luck
Thank you!
Why not hook the log arch trailer to the tractor to get across the ditch ?
I'm sure that would work. That little tractor is so tippy on anything off camber so I try not to do too much with it off of flat land. A braver soul would probably just use it to pull the trailer.
or just pull each log out with tractor?
@@danielcolwell1829 Trying to keep the log as clean as possible is always a priority, it doesn't take much grit to dull the blade on a mill.
Man if it really were a flying tree it'd be a breeze 😊
Haha, you are correct! I could just fly it right to the sawmill!
@@MacJackalif only!
Really liked the video, maybe the next project build a bridge,
Haha, I think you are right!
Get some tire chains on that UTV and you'll have the skidder you so desperately need :)
Next time you might just build up the creek bed with some solid limbs horizontally with the water flow to eliminate the dip that has you getting stuck. Temporary yes, but it would get you moving. New subscriber, hope your back is feeling better.
That's a good idea. The back is already doing much better thankfully. I appreciate that!
working that 290 farm boss
Yes sir! It's a 310 but still good eye!

Hard maple tree
maple would be my guess as well. sugar

WOW maybe try to use something else to get those logs to the trailer. Apparently that small side by side is not the right piece of equipment for that
Yeah it's what I have for now. I've been looking at cheap old trucks to see if I can build my own logging rig. Something that I can beat up and not worry about.
Keyboard warriors always so negative about a guy using the equipment he has and not even beating it up to try and get an objective accomplished...
Dude, spent a few minutes and get your winch fixed. And mash the wheel lock peddle. Take care of your back too.
Yeah I have to fix it. Just didn't want to walk all the way across the timber up and down hills to grab the tools. I was using the lock pedal but the hitch had my back wheels off the ground and it was too slick to climb with the fronts. Thanks. Looks like a white oak
Does that kzabota have a winch
One that doesn't work unfortunately.
Put your tongs on the tractor 3 point and go for it.
18:00 Ok you hurt your back yesterday, and how is this going to help your back today?
Haha I didn't say I was a bright fella. Watching the video as I edited made me realize how much I strain my back and why it's sore in the first place. I'll be taking better care of it before I have no back left.
Haha shoulda showed us how to always run a sharp saw first; you know it's true but thanks for the technique.....a log arch would help you ;)
You are correct. The saw wasn't sharp enough to whip through that tree, would have made the undercuts a lot faster. Good eye.
That my friend is a fallen tree. Very common in your area. Hope this helps
Haha, very helpful.
👍
Why not use your tractor to pull your log trailor
I would but the terrain is a bit hairy for me on a tractor.
Man I was watching and I think u need to borrow my 372xp and that is an elm
Haha, yeah I'm saving my pennies for a 70cc saw. The 20 inch bar gets the job done, but a longer bar would make life way easier. Yeah I'm leaning towards elm as well. I'll cut into it soon and see.

Stupid. No ideal from Nottingham.🙁🙁🙁
Maybe maple?
The Kubota is stuck and has a winch???
Yup. Of course when I get stuck is when I notice the winch isn't working. I'm going to clean up the wires at the battery terminals and see if that cures it.
Its an elm tree..
Looks like a old elm 😮
😮 tumbang ke sela sela pohon
i think its a dead tree
You are correct!
You got a tractor use it! More powerful 😊
Red Elm
You have a winch on the front of your sbs why not use that to pull u out
I found out it wasn't working while I was stuck or I would have. I'll be fixing it this week because it's also what we use to run the snow plow, so if we get any snow I'll be in trouble.
@MacJackal oh sorry for your bad luck
You need a tractor with a loader on it my friend and a helper would help also lol no more
Haha, I hear you.
you need a tractor
