I just got the full meal deal from bob last week. I will be assembling this over the next week. Thank you for putting this video up, it will help me get started. Also, shout out to Bob at race at home. I live in WA state and the crate I received from Bob (UK) was packed as well as anything I have ever ordered. Out of ALL the RUclipsrs I began watching during the pandemic, Karl has been one of my favorites.. 1.) Super Genuine. Guy really comes off as a nice gent and doesn't get uppity or 'too big for himself'. 2.) He takes care of himself, and isn't a fat blob that sits at home and complains about things. 3.) He's continued to use the same formula for his channel all along, and he's growing ! I'm really happy to see the vendors / manufacturers taking notice and reward Karl with gear to review and test for them. I remember back when he was reviewing Playseat and Logitech ! Ha ! Now he's got triple big screen full motion direct drive blah blah blah ! What an upgrade !
Great video and an amazing rig! I have been using a motion rig for a few months now and the immersion it adds especially with VR is just insane. After some time I cant imagine sim racing without the motion. You get so used to it.
@@blacknovella no not worth the price tag.. try the sfx 100 project , and save up for the surge and traction motion later. I mean those actuators are awesome against a buttkicker, u will be feeling g-force, but that price of the d-box is way to high for what u get..
After using the pt 6 actuator at the SRG... I was absolutely amazed!!!!! Barry put me in the rally trucks and oh my god!!..say lumps and bumps one more time 😆.. Lastly congrats on the upgrade!!
Looks like another brilliant, fun addition to the rig Karl. The one good thing about my condition is (and others with tinnitus) that I don't think that high pitch noise would make a difference to normal! 🙂 One thing I would like to ask is how does this setup now compare to the high end racing pods you have been in this year? Perhaps a video detailing the cost of your current set up might be educational?
Your setup is looking gooood 👌 Nice work mate. You've come a long way and you full deserve it. Cats name is Ori. Reminded me, I still have to finish will of the Wisps!!😐😲
Wow this rig looks fantastic. Looked really fun. I imagine getting that up the stairs was fun. That side to side movement looked pretty cool but not excessive like I've seen with some motion systems.
I'm in two minds about those (having used one recently and reflected upon it), it mostly just feels like you are being hugged by someone and nothing like braking IRL lol! Maybe if I spent more time with one and also configured the motion to very slightly pull back and tilt forward (and I do mean only SLIGHLTY) it may work better?!
Me watching the video: "There is no way he's going to lift a full alu profile + DD2 sim rig on his own. Someone's going to have to come and help hi---oh, it's on already." :D :D :D
Great video! Can't wait to see how you feel about this rig once you've had it for several months. I live in the States and will upgrade my rig sometime soon and am very interested in this accuator based system and how low it sits. I hate the look of the taller models and would have trouble putting something like that in my space. God bless and race on 👍😎
Love your content Karl. Just a question about what setting you changed in the Thanos that was giving you a strange noise, and what kind of noise you were experiencing, if you can recall?
Great video as usual Karl. It's becoming evident that not just your subscribers appreciate your honest and fair review style but the guys making the gear do as well. And that's a pretty big commendation for your channel.
Just watched your video. Freaking awesome! I have considered getting the lowrider for my PT actuators kit, unfortunately I am in New Zealand so the shipping may be $$$. Informative video as usual!
A very impressive piece of kit, and for a prototype, it looks beautifully made 👌 great explanation on the physics of how it all works, in an easy to understand way, appreciate that 😉 That is an amazing rig you have, and as someone else mentioned, investing in a 4point harness might be useful? Not just for the immersion obviously 😀 but also to stop you moving around in the seat so much, cause that will wear you out!😯 Quick question, might be too early to tell, but how's it affected your times, say,in DirtRally? Quicker cause of the immersion or slower, for now, cause it feels more real and therefore will need time to adjust to the game again?
A harness may be needed, we'll see! Motion is great fun but IMO will always make you slower, fighting being thrown around versus sat tranquil is a no brainer, like running too higher FFB it just makes everything harder.
Looks like you've reached peak rig... Can't really think of anything you could do to improve it, at least not dramatically. Maybe a simcube 2 pro, but not a huge improvement from a DD2, and plus you've got that fanatec sponsor/affiliation, so makes sense to use the DD2. Some replica GT3 wheels would be awesome, but those are quite pricey.
Karl I ended up buying the all new drivers to replace my old drivers because of that noise…the new ones are white….they were 300$ a piece and my other drivers, other the. The noise we’re fine….it was well worth the money….300x6….the new ones are silent
After having this low rider kit for a few months how do you like it. Also I was looking into getting that prime rig and was wondering how much wider is the floor deck than the frame of the prime. Wondering if I can add rolling casters for moving it to the other side of the room when not using .
It's great, no issues at all! :) No you can't mate, the whole assembly would be too heavy and the plate is designed to be flat on a floor not suspended by it's corners.
Nice.. so mate would you say get the PT actuators but I talking with out the Low rider as that overall cost is more than I want to spend.. will just the actuators be worth it as in how it feels Or would you say just go with transducers?
How are you finding this now you've had it running for a while Karl? Maybe worth doing a more in-depth follow up video? I tried the demo rig at Race@Home just before Xmas and came away feeling that the 4 corner actuators were much more immersive than surge and traction loss (in that order). To be fair to Bob & Aaron, they were completely run off their feet trying to get orders shipped in time for Xmas & the rig wasn't properly configured as they'd been running some test stuff before I turned up. They were running the 150mm actuators for surge & TL but said that they are planning to change them to the 200/250mm travel ones early in the NY. They have offered for me to have a follow up demo when they will have more time to get it properly set up, which I'll almost certainly take them up on.
I will be doing a follow up at some point mate for sure. But I love it! :) The vertical actuators can easily be replaced by 4x strong tactile transducers (for about 85% of the effect) so they are they least important IMO, TL and surge cannot. But proper tuning is needed to really fell the benefit, plus TL is not something you would ever really feel unless you're into Rally or just a bad driver and forever losing the arse end! lol
IF they sell the bottom half of the rig I may very well be interested I already have baby monster actuators just need the 4th and 5th dof. Great video!
One thing I found interesting was that in the gameplay section, you were reacting to slides before they became apparent on the screen. I have recently re-installed DR2 but found the car feels really floaty. I am going to re-watch your set-up video to see if I can resolve it.
Thats because on slippery surfaces you have to initiate the turn before you reach the corner and the same applies to counter steering... if you wait for it to happen it's too late.
Hello Carol, I asked you before on how do you connect your TVs to your computer, would you please elaborate on that! I have the new LGOLED TV and I am considering purchasing two additional as well but I only have one HDMI 2.1 output in my video card
Hey Karl, are you interested in button boxes or dashboards for the Fanatec CSL DD? Would love to see a video about that stuff. I'm still waiting for SRH to put a matching dashboard for that wheelbase on their homepage...
I used a car jack to lift the rig. 😄 @21:30. I'm sorry but i don't agree. I had a butkicker first and now 4 actuators motion setup. I places the transducer in all 4 corners but my aluminum rig is so firm that you cant tell where the vibration is coming from. Entire rig shakes all together. There is no way you can replicate what you feel trough motion with transducers. Not even close. When i hit the curbs for example the side of the rig lifts and vibrates and i can expect what the car wil do on that moment. Because of the impact. The immersion is a different level. I can catch slides because traction lost movement. Yes also possible with 4 actuators. So much different. Of course im talking about track racing. Haven't tried rally yet.
What a setup😃👌My SimXperience Controllerboxes are also quite noisy from the fans and I just have a multiple plug socket with switches fixed to my rig to shut them down when not in the game. I also bought closed headphones to dam the actuator-sounds when driving. DR2 has rather vague telemetry-output IMO and if getting BeamNG to work, it is a hole different thing. Best motion-telemetry has IMO iRacing and AMS2 on tarmac and you can probably run both with true triple 4k and proper triplescreen-correction. Isn't it better to add a headtracker to the rig like Boosted Media so that the FOV moves with the TL?
Cockpit view is no use in DR with triples so head tracking won't add anything. Other sims move the cockpit as you accelerate and brake anyway (ACC for example), I don't think they do for the back end swinging around but that should not be happening in non rally sims and if it does you're either crashing or it's so minimal you don't notice the view at all lol At least thats my testing so far :) I don't think Will uses it anymore either.
@@KarlGosling Will is using a D-Box only atm, so doesn't make sense to track since lock to horizon does the job. With the NLR two axis TL it's rather a must and with one axis it depends on the game I guess. If the camera looks straight only, the dashboard is fixed or only goes up/down while your rig is changing your viewing angle all the time including the wheel, it sounds to me like a good idea to compensate this with a headtracker. Not mandatory like with the NLR, but it basically is the same effect than mounting the display to a motion rig.
Quality btw sometimes the high pitch sound is a coil core vibrating. If you open the box and look for the coils and (when power is off !!!) push stuff around a bit, it can help stop the sound.
That 16khz sound is awful, at first, I thought it was some florescent lights until you explained what it was and I could still hear it when you were racing. That would drive me nuts! Btw, I'm 52 and still have great hearing.....
