Ferrari race cars were often painted with mops, brooms, and roller brushes
Last minute before going to the docks, back in the day..
You needed to see them in the pits, up close, at Daytona and Sebring....
NOT at the auto shows and later races back in Yurp!

  • @BrianWCarlson

Nice build - this Ferrari is my favorite car of all time.
A little FYI, in the video there is commentary that the 330 P4 and 412P are different cars, this is not quite correct.
Given they were hand built race cars every chassis varied slightly and cars had multiple body panels as they were crashed and rebuilt. Mirror configuration changes were made car to car and panel to panel.
The 330 P4 and 412P were exactly the same chassis, however, the 412P were sold by Ferrari factory to private teams and ran with carburetors. The P4 ran with mechanical fuel injection by the Ferrari factory team since it was new technology and faster. Mr Ferrari, ever image conscious, held back the fuel injection so the Ferrari factory had an edge (read faster cars) than the private teams he sold his cars to!

Amazing! I went straight to the end to look at the finished model, and compared it to the photograph I took at the LeMans race (I had a photographer's pass for trackside access). It is incredibly accurate, and only after going back to watch the whole video, did I realise what a massive amount of work you did to match the car in the kit to the real-world full-size car. Thank you!

Nice. I've been working on mine with opening doors and full engine detail off and on for about ten years, lol. I like your brake ducts! One thing I would suggest is to tone down the headlight covers' thickness by polishing the edges. It will blend the two planes and make that silvery thickness glare disappear. Or, you could just run a black Sharpie marker around the edge before gluing.

A handy tip for polishing is to pre-load the polishing tool with compound before using it. Otherwise, you're essentially just sucking the compound off the surface with that dry cotton ball, which means you'll generally end up using way more compound than you really have to. Use one ball for each compound as well. It's going to pick up compound regardless, and you can't wash that stuff out, so you might as well just have a set of polishing consumables for each grit, especially considering that you do this for a living as far as I can tell. My father was a body-man (collision repair) at a GM dealership for almost 50 years, building hot-rods on the side until it became unprofitable, and he taught me quite a few things. There wasn't a thing going on in that shop that he didn't know every detail about, including PnP (paint and polish). Any time he'd see me painting or sanding/polishing my models as a kid, he'd always show me what I was doing wrong. One of the things he taught me is that you use separate tools for each compound, and you load each up with the compound it's intended for. This also quickens the polishing process, in that you don't have to bother with the futile process of washing compound off, and when you're at the next step, you can just clean the part, throw the next wheel/swab in, put some fresh compound on it and get after it.

Guys, need help! Please advise me a thinner for Mr. Color GX-100 Super Clear 3. I tried Tamiya x-20 and x-20a. No luck, the varnish looks like curdled milk after thinning. Really don’t know what to do…

Still trying to figure out why this has ANY thumbs down. Maybe some people searched "how to tame and ride a unicorn donkey" and this popped up. This how to build a beautiful and brilliant Ferrari 330 to perfection! Awesome PLASMO!

Hi Plasmo! Marvelous job as usual! I have a question. At 14:54 minute you sand the surface of the car with 3000 sandpaper sponge. Before this stage did you cover the model with a clear gloss paint? I'm building up a Mustang 1/24 and the paint job is not perfect. I would like to try this technique. Thanks!!! Greetings from Italy! Forza Ferrari!

Astonishing. Master work. Given the comments surrounding the new airbrush, can we look forward to some 1/12th scale masterpieces? MFH maybe?

I built a 1/24 Mercedes-Benz 500K Special Roadster model kit some days ago.
If I had seen your video first, it would have been a great help in assembling the model kit.

    Just a thought.
For clear plastic adhesives, use something called LOCA glue. It cures via UV light, and is transparent. Takes a few seconds to cure with a UV light pen. Something I'll be trying at some point.

Hello from Barcelona! I've seen this video like 20 times and I love it. I was wondering to build this car since I saw this tutorial the first time and finally I've bought it with same extra decals. I will follow this video and try to get that exquisite finish. Thanks so much Master!

The handwork is very fine, especially the spraying, which is very good.👍👍👍

Amazing shine on the paint. Question - You apply the varnish over the dull sanded area and it magically becomes shiny?

  • @zolatanaffa87
    @zolatanaffa87 5 лет назад

Mhhhhh .... but the race numbers are not applied to the bodywork at each race? So the thickness step should be seen! 1/24 of the thickness but visible! hahaha!
coming back serious: beautiful model David, my compliments!

This video is extremely useful for car modelers who struggles with paint job and varnish. Like me :) Thanks very much...

I'm not going to question your opinion about this being the best-looking car ever, but I will submit the Jaguar XJ-13 for consideration as co-champion. =)
    Gorgeous build. I'm in awe.

    Exceptional!!!
One of my all time favorite race cars and the finish on this - wow.
I know I'm a layman, in regards to this - but still - wow!
I don't know when it happened, but model kit building has been turned into some kind of pro level. Modelers creating finish build that are beyond museum pieces.

tip. use a blue marker pen to darken down the inside edge of your headlight glass. you have a white edge which is highly visible and it makes the glass look like plastic. stunning model bro. loved your video

HEY! THAT'S CHEATING! you can't just film the real car and say that it's the finished product!

Very very nice. I have this kit in a cupboard waiting to be built along with the GT40 and a 917. I shall not be able to achieve anyrging like your standard though.

Who now feels somehow, I don't know, completely inadequate...and I thought I could build scale models? You Sir are one talented chap.

I use to love building super accurate detailed scale models! But anymore, heading into my late fifties, my hands shake too much to install the small detailed pieces! So, I relocate to building larger scale models! Which, I have always loved building anyways! It's funny how time has flown for me! I remember starting to build models when I was 12, with my sister, who is a year older then me. Now, in my mid-fifties and I'm still building models! Drives my wife crazy! But, she likes that I have a hobby to keep myself busy!

Hi there, firstly- beautiful. Secondly, the polishing, I listened a few times but didn't put 2+2 together properly. Sorry, do you use water with the electric mops or just the compound?
