    Bro, this battery is so cool! I didn't know that was a thing, thanks for sharing, I'm hearing, but I love to learn about cochlear implants, so whenever there's something new or something that u think most people don't know about them, plz share, cause it's not easy to find specific information like that.

    Hey there, good video. I'm also a first generation and I also have had mine 21 years. I'm still using my S-series. I definitely understand your stuggle. My batteries usually last about 10 hours, but aren't always reliable. I was notified of the Chorus upgrade last year, but unfortunately I don't carry the insurance I once had. Perhaps one of these days things will turn up and I'll get around to finally getting this Chorus Processor.. Your video for sure gives me something to look forward to.

      Love this! Hopefully, the opportunity comes up for you to have access to the new technology. Keep rocking that S-series!

    Hey, great video! I have some questions:
    1) For a long car trips, how come you could not charge your batteries in the car? Even if they do not make car chargers for your specific batteries, you can buy the little devices where you can plug in household items into the car outlet. Is that not an option for you? I have often done that in situations where I did not have a car charger for a device such as with my laptop.
    2) When the battery in your ear with the first generation implant died, how come you could not hear with the other cochlear implant on the other side?
    3) Why does the first generation one need so much more power?
    Thanks again for the great video!

      Hi Steven, Great questions!
      1. I can charge them in the car. Growing up I had one of those converters but once I got married and had kids, it was hard to have enough charging ports for everything we needed. Plus, I worried about the kids spilling or throwing something that would mess up my charger. Having a battery that lasted over 12 hours has been a game changer and less stress for me. :) I also did not like having to pull over every 3-4 hours to change my battery either.
      2. So my right ear (1st Generation) is my dominate ear since I got it at age 6. My left ear (newer generation using the Naida) got implanted at age 14 and I still struggle to hear everything with that ear alone but It has come a long ways since I was 14. Wearing them together helps make everything sound more rich than just my right ear alone.
      3. So the 1st generation CI's require so much battery power because of how the internal device is designed. Because of that, the external processor is working in overtime to process everything and keep up with the new programs that are mapped to my processor. (remember the 1st generation CI's are piror to the year 2000 as I got mine in 1999. So the technology alone as changed a ton since.) The newer generations have a 2nd component within the internal device that works as a memory processor which helps require less battey power for the external processor to operate. That make sense?
      Again, great questions! Thanks for asking!

    It's interesting to hear your experience with the upgrade. My daughter is up for an upgrade. Hers are from Cochlear. She currently has the Nucleus 6 and can upgrade to the Nucleus 7. We've never had problems with all-day battery life, but I'm interested in seeing how she reacts to any difference in sound (she's 6 now). And the Nucleus 7 can connect to a phone without any extra accessory, so that'll be cool too.

      Love that! I love being able to connect to devices and feel empowered when answering the phone or doing a video conference.

      Some people like to be deaf and dont want the cochlear implant. Maybe the 7 should come with the option to only work when someone calls you. So they can be more choosey about what and when they want to hear.

      @@gantz4u Someone with a cochlear implant can just pop off the magnet when they don't want to hear. My kids do it all the time when they're done hearing the world. My son is in a phase right now where he likes to watch movies without sound. He'll pop off both magnets while he watches.

    Do you hear a robotic sound or do voices sound normal to you? I may need a cochlear implant one day and I’m nervous. What is watching TV like?

    Great video, David!! Have you ever thought upgrading your internal processor to one that's more updated?

    • @DavidBCluff
      @DavidBCluff  4 года назад +3

      Yes, many times but it would require surgery to take out what is still working right now and put a new system in. My doctors and I prefer to wait until something fails internally before going in and replacing it. It will be interesting to see what changes in the coming years. :)

    I am also a first-generation, but I am still jiffy about upgrading to Chrous only because it is the body wore processor. They look like the old model of the body processor and gave it a modern twist with all these cool features, BUT I absolutely despise body wore processors. I feel like it's not doable for me because I move around a lot and having a cord that is visible just upsets me greatly. How do you overcome that and decided to go back to body wore processors?

    • @DavidBCluff
      @DavidBCluff  4 года назад

      Hi Ann, Sorry for the late response but I 100% understand your frustration. I have gone back and forth on if I should get it or not. I have young kids and worry about being active with them while having a cord going down to my belt/pants.
      Overcoming the fear: I realized that I needed the all-day battery life for better work experience, connectivity for better listening experiences. My hair is already short so I am used to having my processors exposed so I accepted the fact that I will have a visible wire on the back of my neck and then hidden under my shirt.
      When my two boys want to be more active... I kept my back up BTE harmony processor to use for those moments when my body processor might not be ideal.
      While the design itself is not appealing for most it does provide more options when it comes to battery, roger systems, and waterproofing options.
      Right now, the Chorus fits my lifestyle and some things required a few little adjustments but it ultimately works for me. :) Hope this helps.

      @Pamela Isberg I love my Roger Select and use it everyday! I even have a 100% roger program so I can have my own "noise canceling headphones." haha!
      I have learned to have my wire go down the front side of my body vs the back as when I bend over to pick up my 1 year old, it pulls/strains my cord so having the wire go down the front and clip to my side helps with that. But yes, it is lighter than the first one that came out. I still have mine from when I was 6!

    Would you ever re implant that ear?

    • @DavidBCluff
      @DavidBCluff  4 года назад

      Eventually, I might have my 1st ear re-implanted when the internal technology fails. We still don't know how long the internal device lasts since it was implanted in 1999. :)
