Metallica Blackened Intro with C# Tuning is EVIL (normal & reversed)

I recreated Blackened's intro, but tuned my guitar down to C#. I recorded it forwards (how it was originally done) then reversed it to get the version heard in the song.

My Dying Bride's tuning of choice.
Why C SHARP though, and not natural?
I could never figure that out.
I play in Open C tuning a lot now - hard to reach minor chords without going up the neck, but the amazing and interesting different chords takes their place (unless you split it across guitar parts), and the open strings are CRAZY in Open C.
