AND, it sets the tone to an album where the world’s greatest metal band were at their peak, and they pushed their abilities as musicians to the limit. It’s my favorite album, and Blackened is just a pure work of art.

I remembered reading in the guitar magazine that blackened intro was reversed, so went I got my justice tape and played it. It was an awesome moment then, there wasn't any tools available commercially let alone software to do so.
I'm literally speechless, that is spot on my man. It's funny because they're actually playing in Foxboro MA on Aug 2 and on the 4th and my daughter and I are going to see them this weekend!
I haven’t found any direct confirmation, but I believe this intro was most likely played by James. For this album he didn’t only play the rhythms, he played all the harmonies and even the slower leads (which this qualifies as). Guitar-wise, he played pretty much everything except for the solos.
