I would agree with you in regions where possession is illegal, however in Australia possession or use alone has not been illegal for many decades in most states, you needed to have significant amount to be in trouble (ie. you were a dealer).

CHS is just reefer maddeness all over again. I've had stomach issues since I was born. A male with an Eating Disorder. I've been trying to get a diagnosis for 30 years, and nothing better than acid reflux.
Now whenever I go to the ER for vomiting, they ask if I smoke weed, and if I say yes they immediately call it CHS. Even when I try to explain that this has been going on LONG before, I even knew what weed was. Nothing. If you vomit and smoke weed, it's CHS. From 17-29. I was your typical stoner, high every hour of every day, legit 24/7. Not a sober day in those 12 years. Always thought i was just a naturally anxious being. I had to quit for probation and not even 6 months without smoking, and my anxiety became almost non-existent. And my social anxiety was the worst. Going in public alone was never an option. I couldn’t even go into a store, or a corner shop, not even a drive-thru. Pretty pathetic, but real life.
I’ve always had some social anxiety within me, but over time it progressed to that.
I always thought weed was helping me, but eventually it became the reason it was so bad to begin with.
Never went back to smoking like that.

This happened for me too. But I’ve been able to use it again since I started looking into the terpenes of weed and being VERY careful about what I use.
Now I stick very exclusively to indicas (bc they just tend to have a terpene profile that works better for me) and I also try to find ones that have CBD in them (like 1:1s). Having CBD in there seems to help neutralize the unpleasant THC effects.
That and of course making sure to not ingest too much right off the bat. They make edibles that are infused (later in the process) with strains with specific terpenes and extra CBD and those have been a godsend. I don’t have to smoke and I can tightly control my dose. The process of making edibles apparently ruins terpenes, so the only way to re-include them is by adding something later in the process I guess.
Honestly I’m so glad I did give it another try, too, because cannabis helps me SUBSTANTIALLY with my mental illness, physical pain, and sleep issues. But yeah I’d love to know more about why that change happens as we get older!!!!

It's possible there was a cannabinoid that has been bred out that was responsible for it. Mushrooms cause the giggles, THC isn't wholly unlike LSD in certain aspects. I'd be willing to believe there's a cannabinoid that replicated the giggly effect from mushrooms since it's the same shape to hit the same receptor. Though weed back then was a lot less potent and societal pressures where a lot different so it might have just been a physiological symptom of stress relief and not psychologically knowing how to cope with it? Either way, unless proven otherwise I see no reason to deny the possibility.

I really don't understand "if they stop vomiting in the shower, it must be CHS."
Do people not understand a cold or hot bath can help shock you out of a lot? A hot shower can reduce a heart attack. A cold shower has been used to cure hangovers for a millennia. Ei vomiting caused my alcohol.
CHS is completely made up. We are the first generation to only be eating processed food. There's thousands of studies showing how the unhealthy food we eat is causing adverse effects. Two Crack pot studies pointing to weed as the culprit and everyone jumps on board.
More people are smoking, and more people are open about it. Correlation does not mean causation.

I’ve had 2 CHS episodes. The last episode was the worst. I had severe abdominal pain that not even pooping could help. Eventually, there was nothing in my system to poop out because of the constant need to vomit, which then became dry heaving. I felt like I was dying and sounded like I was dying to everyone else 😅. All of this went on for a few hours until I went to the ER. There, they gave me an IV and some sort of steroid pills to ease the swelling in my esophagus. Felt better after another few hours and then went home. All of this happened overnight.
CHS affects a percentage of heavy smokers. I was taking bong rips several times a day, just feeling medium. I also didn’t drink enough water throughout my day to support this habit. Be careful with how much you smoke. You can still smoke (at least I can), but everything in moderation. Drink lots of water and eat your green vegetables 👍🏼
    There are 3 stages:
    Prodromal, Hyperemetic, and Recovery.
If you are feeling symptoms, chill out on the weed and purge on water. Don’t overthink if you might have one either because anxiety may be able to trigger more symptoms. You're body is most likely digesting, or maybe you ate something recently that is upsetting your stomach. Whatever you do, resist the urge to throw up as much as you can when in these moments.

No one believed me and my fiance just would push me into it more.. everyone mocked saying weed doesn’t make you sick and would call me anorexic and that’s it.. well it took me nearly a year out of it all to feel better, to be able to digest food, to gain weight, to have fluency in speaking, to regulate my sleep and energy, it took Alonggggg time to recover fully and be able to be myself again. Now I can’t even take a hit., I’ve tried, and just in 1 hit it sends me in full psychosis and i freak out, my whole body felt like it was crawling or about to just explode, every muscle through my body was twitching and ached but especially my stomach.. I thought it’s what a seizure felt like. I don’t think I can ever smoke again and don’t want to but it’s hard because yaknow sometimes I do want that one hit yaknow.. NEVER and I pray for you, NEVER let it get that bad.. you start puking and realize you’re losing weight you need to stop.. you don’t want to feel how sick you get to feel it felt like my body was decaying and I could die at any moment I was so weak and always sick every day it’s a horrible horrible feeling and not worth it. I had ignored it because I was happy to lose weight, i thought I could lose weight just by smoking, great! But you don’t realize how awful you feel.. not to mention every other day feeling like you might just have a heart attack but everyday a fleeting thought that you’ll die soon.

I'm Dutch and I like a joint every once in a while as well ;).
Marihuana has been condoned here in the Netherlands for almost 40 years. Yet, the Dutch do not know many cases of Cannabis hyperemesis syndrome. After watching the video I did a little bit of reseach about what's known in th Netherlands on the websites of the Dutch drug-information institutes and even institutes that combat drug-use or treat addiction in the Netherlands, like Jellinek, state that cases are very rare, though it might be that there are more cases, but misdiagnozed. Furthermore they state that taking a warm bath can relieve the symptoms and quiting the use of marihuana immediately stops the symptoms all together. Excessive showering and hot bathing is also done often by people who have developed CHS. Still, it hardly appears here, even though smoking or ingesting marihuana products is relatively socially accepted here and has been done for a long time.
Pharmaceutic companies and many doctors actually would like a full legalization, due to the potentials for new medication that aren't allowed to be researched at this moment.
Studies on especially CBD that have been done do show amazing resultst for cancer, Parkinsons, Alzheimer and depressed patiënts and people with ADHD (and more).
I'm speculating why there is such a rise of CHS cases in countries that only recently condoned or legalized marihuana, like the US, Australia and Canada, compared to countries that have condoned/legalized it for decades, like the Netherlands and Portugal.
It might be that the composition in American marihuana is different, like way more THC or CBD. I know the marihuana here is checked here to ensure not too much THC or CBD are present. This system is quite flawed though: there's only a check on the sold marihuana from stores (which we call "coffeeshops") and not on the level of production (which ironically is illegal).
So there's a lot of weed and hasj going around that exceeds the allowed limits. Still, most of the marihuana products aren't contaminated (much) with other chemicals. Many other countries like Spain and Portugal also have systems of condoning/legalizing marihuana use and also here there is strict supervision in the composition and distribution (better and stricter than in the Netherlands). Maybe this is different in the US and Canada (and Australia)? I honestly don't know much about the production, composition, consumption, sale or checking procedures of marihuana outside of Europe. So I can only guess here.
Or possibly there are behavioural differences, like perhaps American users just use more marihuana or in higher dosis in one sitting than the Dutch, which might explain the difference in cases?
The average Dutch(wo)man has a more physically active lifestyle than the average American (we cycle and walk A LOT and cities and villages are designed to suit cyclists and pedestrians rather than cars). Also, most Portuguese walk a lot and have a relatively active lifestyle. Maybe having a better stamina and physical condition reduces the chance of developing CHS? It does work that way with many other ailments, both physical as biochemical. I mean, eating a lot of meat and having a sedentary lifestyle increases the chance on heart failure and arthritis more than eating loads of meat, but exercizing a lot (cholesterol and vit A)(though switching up some of that meat for veggies would be waaay healthier :P). Spending all your time indoors increases the likelyhood of a depression more than when you take a long hike outside in the sun every day (vit D). Maybe CHS works similar? Is there any information about other binding (behavioural/genetic) factors in the known cases? Or is there a specific group of users that is statistically more likely to get it? Or maybe even environmental influences?
Or perhaps American doctors are just easier to freak out over drug related ailments? Or the European doctors don't freak out enough and therefore miss cases?
Maybe the Americans visit their hospitals straight away when vomiting, while most Europeans have to visit their physicians first for non-life-threatening ailments, before being send to the hospital? I don't know
I do hope you guys let us know more, once more information becomes available, I'm curious :). Love the channel, keep it up :D

You have s lot of interesting questions. Definitely worthy of some research.
As I understand. There's a big difference in what types are accessible and how potent. Between North America and Europe.
When I was younger, I would occasionally smoke weed at parties.
Every single time I smoked while drunk. I puked, as soon as the weed started worked.
Whereas if I only started drinking after being Stoned, I never had a problem.
Don't know if that's a general thing. And if so, if theres a difference in how alcohol and weed is generally consumed in different countries, that could be part of the discrepancy you mention.
I'm from Denmark. Our alcohol culture is pretty insane, and cannabis is illegal. So we Don't have many studies from here.

    • @secretlybees
      @secretlybees 10 месяцев назад +2

These ideas are interesting and probably close to the truth.
Considering states where recreational weed is legal, the THC% can be quite high! Some states regulate the percent of TCH available for recreational vs medical use, where some states limit the type of product. For example, in my state, I can purchase 97% TCH in a vape, but I can't get 40mg TCH per gummy, and can only get 10mg THC per gummy. In another state, I can get concentrates (I'm new school, so I've heard "concentrates" described by old school people as being 'more potent than hash', and it comes in a form you have to melt without lighting on fire).
So, that + consider that the average American simply has more body fat and more sedentary lifestyle. Marijuana is stored in your fat, and bod fat effects how much you hold, and how much longer you hold onto it. Losing or gaining weight can also effect how the high feels/lasts.
If you have less THC overall, and the body isn't storing it as much, you won't be as likely to get sick from it. It IS hypothesized that the higher potency of THC is why we're seeing this more now, but it was possibly existent, but extremely rare in the past before marijuana was being bred and refined these ways.
I was morbidly obese and also was getting sick all of the time. I was doing a bunch of research into this. It wasn't the marijuana in my case, but I lost weight and cut back. Anecdotally, I've noticed that the weed does effect me differently now that I'm more active and have way less body fat.

Consuming 4g a day, everyday, in any form is just an absurd amount of cannabis. I also think having such a high amount of THC on the market doesn't help either. 20% and higher is waaaaaay to much. If I'm having a migraine, I only take enough to manage the pain, which, for me, is low enough that I don't really feel high.
For me, microdosing has been very helpful. 3mg edibles is enough to relieve my pain (or one short hit from my pen if I need instant relief), and 5mg is enough to get me buzzed without being blitzed.

As a former commercial grower, I'd like to say that often THC is the culprit. Cannabis has over 400 cannabinoids and all except for CBD are ignored. Straight cannabis can cause headaches, anxiety, nausea and vomiting. The only way to avoid this is to make an essential oil from the whole plant. It's called Rick Simpson Oil, or RSO for short. A solvent (Acetone) is used to strip the plant of everything, then the liquid is strained and reduced down to a thick paste with low heat. You stay higher, longer with none of the side effects.

@@TypicalZamasuI am sorry to hear that, man. I know from my experience that, if you start smoking weed regularly as a trauma response because pot high makes you feel good, it’s a dangerous path, you build dependence. And It's not good.
Once I became aware of my dependence, I chose to fight the hard battle of withdrawal. I did cold turkey. The first 4 days were AWFUL. But I hold on to the sheer power of my mental will. And after 7 days, it got easier. I eventually completed a 2 month cannabis break. Now I enjoy smoking a joint once every 2-3-4 days.

I relate actually, for a long while I was smoking more than I needed to, I was throwing up until is was only stomach acid coming up, horrible appetite, and I continued to smoke to try and get my appetite back which made it worse, I went to a doctor and they thought it was a stomach bug or bacteria in my gut. During this I moved and didn’t have access to weed for a few months and I was completely normal again. I really didn’t think much of it until it happened to my friend. This video really helped have things make more sense, since no one talks about the bad side effects of weed. Throwing up nothing up stomach acid all day every day, cant drink water or eat food was torture. Moderation is key. I smoke still but in moderation

It answered so many questions for me because I realized he had all the symptoms my stepdad had. The oddest but most telling similarity was that the only thing to ease the symptoms was a hot bath. So many nights I remember my step dad in the tub. I told my boyfriend after a bad episode that I’d leave him if he didn’t stop smoking. I grew up watching my mom suffer taking care of my step dad and I wasn’t about to follow that path. I love weed, but if you’re a lifelong chronic smoker, know it’s really know worth this.

This is interesting. I was easily smoking as much as 4 joints/day in my early 20s. I had a med card, and convinced myself that cannabis was the best route to helping with depression. However, one day, I fell extremely ill after smoking. I got the spins, felt extremely hot, got tachycardia, and spent a good part of the night vomiting. I had had a few bad experiences from overdoing it over the years, but nothing came even close to that. It took me a while to smoke again after that, and most of the time when I would try to from then on (especially when taking edibles), those feelings would return even when I consumed very little. Being high became synonymous with extreme anxiety and nausea, and to this day I can't take more than a hit of a joint every couple months (and I usually regret it when I do).
What's more, I became a far more anxious person afterward. I had always had bouts of depression, but had never really experienced anxiety until that point-and unfortunately it's something that has stuck with me. It actually seems rather similar to PTSD in some ways. Anyway, what you're describing does sound pretty similar to what I experienced, and I've never really had a potential explanation for it until now, other than assuming I had some sort of mental breakdown.

It’s what happened to me, and reading these comments, to a lot of other people too. I smoked for over a decade, and for much of that time, it was something I thought was making a huge positive impact on my mental health. I got in with GI then we did some studies. My stomach emptying is not normal it only emptied 30%. The average person in four hours will empty to 10%.
Within the timeframe that it took to get all of these studies, I got a VNS implant to control my seizures because I am medication resistant. After a few months when it got turned up to 2.85 amplitudes in going off every three minutes my vomiting went down. My G.I. suspects it was Gastro paresis because they are doing studies on gastroparesis and how a VNS can help because it works on the stomach as well. I can feel the VNS go off in my stomach every three minutes, it is weird and now I can eat full meals without vomiting. It’s really nice and I wish that I could’ve been part of those studies because I am an example of how it can help.

When stuff like that happens to me (and it often does), I have to realize usually God trying to shut certain doors in my life to show me a new one that He wants me to focus on and walk through. His ways are not like our ways. Very mysterious and effective. You would be wise to go with His flow. Maybe pray about it. He wants you to talk to Him exactly like you talk to us, although respectfully. He created order and it's in our best interest to adapt to it. He loves us like a Father and knows way more about our lives than we do, and I promise He has your best interest at heart. God requires us to retain a "sober mind". A sober mind is a mind that can keep track of itself and avoid sin. God says we can drink, lightly, so knowing that, He probably wouldn't mind if we lightly use cannabis (especially since we have a natural endocannabinoid system unlike for alcohol), BUT, the problem is when these things become our idols; ...When we think we NEED substances over whatever God has to offer us. I'm finding out that cannabis is my idol. I think I cannot be happy without it, but God keeps telling me something entirely different. ONE DAY soon, I'll stop using cannabis. One day I will trust that God will fill the holes I think the weed left. We pleasure seek to fill whatever hole we haven't let God fill. Normal happy people don't use drugs because their bodies naturally produce feel good chemicals. Also, sometimes God wants us to suffer like He did on the cross. It's a fallen world. We really do deserve what we get. Good thing He promises us eternity at total peace and satisfaction for simply believing He died for ALL of that. Finish the race.

I was asking because of my experience with doctors thinking it was CHS for me then it turned out that gastroparesis was the actual diagnosis I was closest to. It can range rom mild to severe, and in my experiences with doctors they look at the most obvious one first especially if you happen to be ‘too young’ to have any more serious issues or they think it’s too rare. In my experience being your own advocate if the problems continue to happen is the best you can do. That’s over time of course, I also eat ‘easy to digest’ foods recommended by my G.I. but I got lucky and had a surgery for my epilepsy that helped my gut as well so my vomiting has significantly gone down along with nausea.

I hope for you guys it ends up going away and you don’t have to worry about it but if the problem persists definitely look further into it and her symptoms and bring those up to the doctor and get a referral to a G.I.

I was a daily smoker for many years and after suddenly making several trips to the ER, was diagnosed with CHS about 3 years ago.
I've found that if I limit my intake to only on weekends, and let my body clear out during the week I can still enjoy smoking.

I have CHS but it doesn’t make me vomit. It just gives me intense pressure in my left rib cage and gives me a feeling like I’m having a heart attack. I had CHS for 3.5 years and then finally decided to quit and I’m coming up on 3 weeks clean and I’m so happy I don’t have to be sick anymore. I wish I could still smoke but it’s sooo not worth the pain.

Thank you for explaining this! I experienced this a few years ago and had no idea what was wrong with me. Ended up in the emergency room because I was vomiting black tar-like stuff (my stomach was empty). I had been smoking weed all day, every day due to depression, stress, and insomnia. My appetite loss confused me as well since weed was supposed to help with eating; as a result, I lost 80 lbs. in about a year while taking high doses of weed per day. I felt horrible and sick all the time, and I even had a manic episode where I felt out of control (emotionally). I had to go cold-turkey for a couple months. I still use weed now for my insomnia on a nightly basis, but I notice the symptoms when my tolerance gets too high and my consumption of it increases. The appetite loss comes along. Nausea when trying to eat also. So now I take regular tolerance breaks (anywhere between 2 weeks and 2 months) to reset my body.

You know, I acknowledge that this is an actual problem that people have, but it still makes me angry that doctors tried to blame weed for my nausea multiple times. When I'm pregnant I get hyperemesis gravidarum, which is nonstop puking. I got so weak I couldn't get in and out of the shower on my own and barely could get out of bed, I couldn't eat or drink anything. Now, the doctors gave me medications that were supposed to help reduce my nausea but it was like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound. Doctors tried to give me stomach acid reducers after I started repeatedly tearing my esophagus and started vomiting blood.... Now I had smoked in the past before getting pregnant, but I stopped any and all smoking once I got that positive pregnancy test. What makes me angry is I'd go to the ER vomiting blood and they'd tell me because I smoked weed that that was why I was vomiting. I got angry with one of the doctors and was like "do you really think I couldn't and wouldn't stop smoking for my child?" And he kinda rolled his eyes at me, I told him none of the medications were working and he asked me "well I don't know what you want me to do for you" I just wanted to be able to drink water! I started smoking after that visit and I was finally able to eat, I was able to sleep, and my body stopped being so incredibly weak and shaky because I could finally eat and drink without consequence. As a result of me smoking I had to deal with doctors being judgemental and I had to deal with CPS saying I "neglected" my child, I was doing what was best for us both. Not only me, but my whole family and my husband were afraid I was going to die before I started smoking weed... So how is it wrong, how did I neglect my child? I was just doing the best thing for us both. Now I have a perfectly healthy and happy baby who is growing really well and is off the charts smart. So again, I acknowledge this is an issue with certain people, but for me marijuana was my saving grace and it quite literally saved me and my child.

Doctors did the same to my wife, she’s gotten ill when she got pregnant with our daughter. The sickness was supposedly caused by toxoplasmosis, and she is also a type 2 diabetic, this has been going on for 6 years and she has had multiple surgeries. Magnesium seemed to help for the most part but marijuana has always been a part of mine and her lives. Never had a problem with it until she went through child birth, but that doesn’t stop the doctors from filling up her file with “marijuana overdose” claims.

I work at a dispensary. We're forced to give out pamphlets that tell of the "dangers" of smoking weed while pregnant. I mostly laugh at them. Obviously, burning weed, or literally anything, introduces carcinogens, something we don't want babies to be in contact with. That being said, if you eat meat, you've been ingesting just about as much. Smoking weed isn't especially dangerous to a fetus, and I regularly sell weed to pregnant women, and I always do my best to make sure they don't feel judged for it. You do whatever you feel you need to for that child and yourself. Have a great day, and congratulations on the kid!

You are feeling like that BECAUSE you arent smoking weed anymore. You think marijuana is the solution to your problems but in reality its only the “solution” to problems that it itself created

My mom had complications from a stomach surgery that caused her to vomit uncontrollably from time to time and she was in and out of the ER because of this. About three or four years ago, I remember sitting in the ER with mom as she was experiencing severe pain and vomiting again. The doctor refused to look into the problem and treat her because he automatically thought she was doing pot and had that cannabis hyperemesis syndrome. Fast forward four years and her body was shutting down from lack of treatment. Last year, her body finally gave up and she passed away on September 20, 2023. She was 70 years old and never smoked or did any kind of drugs and seriously thought pot was evil.

Some doctors do that, they do that when they don't want to do their job and they don't really care about the patients, sometimes its "anxiety" sometimes someone with chronic pain is a "drug seeker" a lot of doctors will come up with anything to get out of the job they need to do, if a doctor ever does something like that search for a second opinion until you're healthy.

Ironically wether its from Dabs, Edibles, or Bong rips I've never felt even the slightest bit of nausea, it's the opposite and always has been! Lucky!

I got CHS 2 months ago! Hands down, one of the toughest things I’ve gone through. Unlike people are saying I honestly didn’t smoke much and when I got sick I was a few days clean then BOOM. Coupled with a panic attack, I thought I was dying, 100%. But I’ve been clean since then which is something I’ve wanted to do for a while!
