Clamp a vise grip above the chain choker so it won't slip.

That is a great idea for the metal posts if you are going full chain. Thanks!

Or use a pipe wrench to keep chain from slipping up.
This is just way too much work and ruins the posts

I totally agree this ruins the posts. I tried the pipe wrench on there but it was taking a long time to wrap the chain, then apply the pipe wrench. Cutting the notch was way more fast and easy for me, that why I made the video, but totally agree you can reuse.

But how well does this work against a post with a realistic amount of concrete? I'm not saying that it doesn't, but most posts that I remove have at least two bags worth buried under them. Seems like you'd be trying to jack up the earth underneath the jack itself. I dunno, man.

Yeah if there is a ton of concrete on the bottom is is harder, but I have pulled up posts with a high-lift jack before that had a ton of concrete on them before. I already had taken out almost all my posts from the yard before I made this video and I agree the ones I showed didn't have a massive amount on them. You do need to make sure the jack isn't on top of the concrete or it isn't going to lift up. Also if the ground is really really hard then soaking the area with a hose can help. I just waited for a rain before I pulled out the bulk of mine.

Nice. Mine were done the hard way. I’m assuming you don’t intend to reuse the posts?
    Questioning life choices indeed.

Oh yeah I guess from a reuse standpoint this does ruin them. Didn’t even think of that.

@@BuildItMakeItProbably but I imagine the number of people who want to remove and reuse posts is probably small. Most of us who want them out want them gone, not moved.

Wrap the smaller chain around the post 2 x ,then the chain pulls on itself ,not the post . You made a simple issue complex. LOL. I would suggest you don’t own a fence company .

Yeah, there are lots of ways to take out the posts and I have removed them with the chains before, I even did it for this video. The saw was what I came up with as the fastest and easiest way I have tried.
