I must say thanks for posting this. I had a clunking sound when braking on my 95 Rirebird. Noticed the bushing is trashed. I watched this and repaired already. Not only is the clunk gone, but much better traction and handling.
klowny, i gotta admit, you have saved my ass many times, most of your videos of how to fix these 3rd gen camaros have happened to me, and i have sucessfully fixed it every time because of your videos...thank you!!!
Hi Klown man I've watched this five times now cause I'm looking at doing this job. I can hear the torque arm on my 98 firebird clank like you guy's was here. Thanks again for showing how to do this.
One of my relatives just called and wants to sell their 2002 Camaro for $500. It only has 75K miles on it but I'm sure it will need brakes and some other work. The last time I saw the car, it was running well so maybe I can flip it after I fix it up. Thanks for the video.
Appreciate everything you do for us ! What are your thoughts on poly motor mounts and transmission mount ? To much vibration ? Does it shifting and engine response ? Cheers
I have a question what did you do about the other side of the bracket the side that connects directly to the transmission I still have a piece of bushing stuck onto it I tried to take the bracket out but the body and the length of the bolt permanently attached to the bracket does not let me slide it completely out
i know this is a longshot, but is it the same process for the v6 manuals, with the t5 5speed in them? dont know if the t arm is different. already put the v8 trans mount on the v6 xmember.
So I just did the job today on my back, just thought I'd reply since you posted 2 weeks ago...So yes, the process is the exact same as in this video. The v8 and v6 arms are the same and the energy suspension bushing (red or black poly) will fit np.the only difference I found was my 98 had one bolt holding the clam shell bracket (which was missing) vs there being 2 inthis video.
@@jonathanandrews1407 thanks my guy, i came back to this vid randomly and remembered i left a comment. for 20 bucks this is an easy fix for that horrible thump lol. and i personally went as far as to drill my cross member to fit the v8 trans mount. its a lot more stout than the pos v6 ones
Great video. I have a clunk in my 87 5spd that only comes when I apply throttle in 5th gear. I changed the transmission mount last fall to try to eliminate it, but the clunk is still there. Could this be the culprit? 1st to 4th is quiet. Thanks!
@@klowny1969 I got an appointment at a chopshop tomorrow with a friend of my dad. He's gonna let me borrow a lift to get a proper look. Then I'll be able to yank and pull and drag everything to see if I can find the cause of my woes. Ps; I subscribed first 15 seconds into the video. Good stuff, my dude.
Klowny, thanks so much man for posting this man. I am currently bringing back to life my 1994 Chevy Camaro with my pops and i had this exact problem. I actually took off the torque arm and thought I had fixed the noise which I did but now I had another horrible noise lol. This made me realize I'd better put that torque arm back on and replace the bushing. Well, we'll see if we can do it as good as you. Thanks again Bro...
To my understanding, the forward end of the torque arm merely rests inside of the bushing you had replaced at the transmission extension housing. Correct?
The bolt that holds this bushing stripped out of the transmission (5 speed) on my car, is this a known problem and what would be the best way to fix it? Thanks a million.
you might either have to weld it and then retap it. or retap it for the next size bolt thread up, and take the bolts to fastenol and have them order u the same ones with the right thread.
+klowny1969 very welcome. i look forward to more, its such a great help. i feel now with insight from your videos and friends help ill be able to build my 86 iroc into a budget beast
hey klowny, I got a 94 trans am, I recently had the torque arm out completely, I inserted the front into the bushing, but I cant get the 2 bolts in the rear to line up. There's a trick to it, just wondering if you knew..thanks!!
Hey..try putting the back on first..then put the front in..u prob have to open the torque arm clamshell like i did in the video to get the front of the torque arm back on..thnx for watching
Use a floor jack on the rear end to raise the rear end to the right height and angle, then when the holes are close tap the torque arm on and then use a punch or strong screwdriver to align the holes,
just about to do this fix and see if it eliminates the sound im hearing under the car. thank you for the video and i hope you make more for the third gens
Great video & camera work! Not to be critical, but my understanding is to use a non-petroleum synthetic silicone lube for polyurethane bushings as petroleum lubes can shorten the life of the bushing. I have no first hand knowledge of this, just research knowledge. Again, great video!
So.......let me get this straight.. The right side clam shell closest to the transmission does or does NOT come out?? There's really no way to pull it out because 1 of the bolts doesnt move. I notice you didnt even show the right side clam shell, theres a bushing in there too..
Oh my bad.. The bottom back bolt is actually a stud attached to the right clam shell and makes it impossible to get that side off, i had to grind off the stud to remove that clamshell, then replace with a regular bolt.. and the top bolt wont come out either there isnt enough room.. It wasnt just as simple as removing the bolts and the bracket for me(atleast thats how my 98 was) just adding this to help someone.. I do appreciate your video and response
I absolutely respect the living **** out of you for doing this under the car on blocks. i just did this on a lift in my 2000 camaro (which uses 3.1111) and i hated every minute of it

Oww yeah ! 2 days ago I raced a Charger SRT-8, won but during the race something broke as I went over a pipe patch while full WOT in to 3rd gear. I could hear something fall to the road and the car instantly lost some power....it's still driving so I baby it back to where I park and hope for the best. Next day I lift it up and see everything in tact, then I look towards the T-56 and the same part is rattling around my Torque Arm and the whole arm is loose, pull it the whole rear suspension is moving. I'm glad it's only this because I thought I busted something more major and I think with this video and if I can lift the car high enough I'll be fixing it myself ! Thanks for the How-To Video Sir, it's greatly appreciated !!! Those Dislikes - total ignorance....
klowny1969 I got a quick question, if you don't mind ? I can't stick my hand in where it need to be to reach the arm clamp. Can the transmission cross member be removed without propping the tranny its self, my rear wheels are in the air btw...
i took my car to a mechanic shop... 95 firebird... he took the bracket off and compared it to the new bushing n said it was the wrong one.... so..... i found this and got back with him. his response was yeah.... I'm not interested in doing that. It sounds like to me you would never be satisfied with it if I did do that. keep in mind this is AFTER he drug my trans am front clip on his lift and pretended not to notice. I am beyond pissed right now. not only is my car still clanking but it needs new paint as well. All because of a so called "professional" mechanic shop.
klowny1969 this is a quick swap lol Fuck that guy!! my bushing is red though. i wonder if it's right. it looks really big compared to the bracket but removing the old bushingmight eliminate that illusion?

klowny, great work. if you shave a little off the top and bottom of the bushing there's no need to bend the bracket.
