Marøøn she probably didn’t plan his character before writing the first book and couldn’t change it later. But to be honest the sorting system is really stupid so it doesn’t matter that much
At the end of the day him crying by Fred’s body, him joking, him coming back, him not letting Ron alone without having a blanket on, him being frightened that Ginny was in the Chamber and even beeing able to be in a relationship does show that after all he has a heart. Plus one of my favorite moments in deathly hallows defenetly was Percy saying: “Hello Minister, did I mention I’m resigning?”
I didn’t like him that much but him standing by Fred’s body broke me it was like Harry and Cedric, or Harry and Dobby but in a way worse, he just came back after knowing he was wrong and a jerk and wanted to make up for it and then sees his brother the one he never got along with out of all them die just as they where making up.
Tbh he did nothing wrong look at it from his side He has prodigies for older brothers so he worked his ass off to catch up to them and he wus proud of him self cus no one else wus and he had the drive to change his life and not be poor they made fun of him and were out right toxic Everytime he got head in life they scolded him and undermined him And he did the best thing for him wus to leave them behind and cut them out something alot more people need to learn to do but i the end he still came to help
I hate that we never see Charlie in the films.. EDIT: okay so obviously we see him in the picture of the weasleys when they're in egypt but other than that we don't know he exists other than him being mentioned by name also ffs everyone calm down
Percy definitely asked the hat to put him on Gryffindor because of his families expectations. Otherwise he would have been in Slytherin because his entire character revolves around Ambition.
ambition is a very ambiguous. Could mean a lotof things . I saw a lot of similarities of him with hermione but with less friends. He loved studing dreamed about a great job and having a great position . Just like hermione. I feel like he gets bad rep because he isn't has extoverted has his family he's not a sports fanatic that loves does mischief like the rest of brothers intead he perfers staying on his room studing or reading.
@@dark3rthanshadows Percy did like sports tho he just didn't play he gambled and made bets with I think Penelope on who would win the house cup or something
I always thought Percy was an important part of the books. He showed the bad side of Gryffindor. Conviction and stubbornness might be heroic traits, but they can be antagonistic as well.
Cormac McLaggen, James Potter, and teen Sirius Black (the later having took the most merciless karma) also showed the bad side of Gryffindor. Cormac himself was created with the specific purpose of representing the stereotypical Gryffindor by reputation. A stubborn, dumb, and self-righteous jock who thinks his strength makes him better than everyone else. And James too was an obnoxious immature bully jock and troublemaker spoiled by his own parents. He still was a jerk as an adult too, just not too much, getting in trouble with muggle police and being a prideful manchild with Vernon during his own wedding. Well, Pettigrew was a Gryffindor too, but he's a special case with some serious mental issues and a failed Gryffindor who wasted his own potentials.
@@gooby214 You may say that James was a jerk... but you need to remember that Snape was apparently equally bad. Also, Snape was a racist who wanted to join a terrorist organization with the goal of killing MILLIONS of innocents... and the boy did that openly.... James was a troublemaker sure... but he was actually a nice guy who protected and befriended kids who'd easily get bullied. The person he was mean to was a jerk who was proud of wanting to kill innocent lives... And Percy wasn't really an antagonist... if you think about it, a lot of his situation actually wasn't fully his fault.... he didn't trust Harry, sure... but his family members nearly died because of Harry multiple times. And his family didn't give him the respect he deserved...
@@gooby214 Yeah my opinion of James (and to a lesser degree Lily) slipped near the end of the story where Snape's memory reveals what they were really like. James was an insufferable bully and the rest of the marauders were sheep who did the same. Snape didn't exactly make things easy on himself by being so secretive and wanting to become a death eater and all that. But they should have left him alone. Then Snape hurt Lily by calling her a mudblood and ending their friendship.
Hoàng Nguyên But with most of the comments you put this under it doesn’t even make sense..This person wasn’t talking about Penelope and you put a comment about Penelope so..Just saying, it doesn’t really fit most of the time.
That's not true at all. His success wasn't ignored he was just rubbing it in. It's like yeah cool youre successful but don't show off. That's why Fred and George picked on him.
He was not a bad person, but a frustrated one. It's the kind of person who can be very dangerous in time of crisis, as we see during the Ministry's campaign against Harry and Dumbledore. He's a type that can make wrong choices out of cowardice or stubborness.

I feel bad for Percy. Barring his mother, he's surrounded by family who either do not care about his interests, or actively mock him for it. That takes a real toll on someone. People focus on the wrongs he did to his family, but that didn't come from nowhere.

I actually really love Percy as a character. I think he's really underrated, and his character arc is unique and sad. He was treated like a black sheep by everyone in his family except his mom. He had to learn hard lessons and it ended with him losing his brother. I find it telling that he was the one there with Fred when he died and not George. Percy's was the last joke Fred ever laughed at. It's heartbreaking.
@Hoàng Nguyên Where are you getting 8 years from? They started dating in their 5th year and broke up when Percy started working at the ministry. She could have liked him all that time, but there's no proof of that. Even so, people break up. It happens.

I wasn't a fan of Percy but I understood where he was coming from. As someone who comes from a struggling, but a very large family. There are moments where I did things to separate myself from my family. But Percy was also the reason why I didn't do the things he did because I couldn't imagine losing my family over money or a big fancy job. Good Job on the video!!!! Well done as always!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well for me it was easy to leave me biological "Family" and start a new life. They never cared for me or my interests in general, so i honestly like Percy.
@@Julia-ez7xi Good to see i'm not allone on this, especially this a sensitive topic for most. Dont get me wrong it is realy great if you have a family that you can trust and is close but not everyone have this.
Honestly, I like him more than Ron and Ginny combined. At least he had more personality. And the fact he didn't trusted Dumbledore, because this is actually where the conflict between him and his father began, well duhh. Dumbledore sucks. I could literally blame on him the deaths of at least 90% of the characters in this franchise.
Percy is easily one of the most interesting Weasleys. He's an outsider and a perfectionist. People only hate him because he disturbs his siblings' antics and unlike his family which is so unfair.
I love the Weasleys, but I felt like Percy was an example of how even great families can have some very unhealthy dynamics. Percy wasn't bad, he just didn't fit into his family. They couldn't understand him, and he was frustrated with them. I get that he was pompous, but he just got so little respect at home. I kind of get why he ditched them when the time came.
Difesy nah percy is smart but he uses his smarts in foolish and idiotic ways. As a middle child and problem child I get where he's coming from but I don't feel sympathy for him lmao
Percy should 100% have been a Slytherin, ambitious, achievement oriented, strong leader, cunning, shrewd, he has so many slytherin traits yet he’s still a Gryffindor. (Also I’m not saying he’s evil, not all slytherins are evil)
@Katherine Smith I would say the Slytherins were portrayed badly in the books (it is from Gryffindor's point of view so figures). However, I think Slytherins have more potential to be dark wizards although most of them aren't cold-hearted and clear.
He tried all his life to make life better for his family, and they mocked him. Whenever his siblings were in danger, he would jump in the action. I feel for him...
The only ones who mocked him were his siblings. And guess what? Siblings ALWAYS make fun of each other. That's NORMAL. His mother was always extremely supportive of Percy, and the ONLY time I remember Arthur "mocking" Percy was when he chuckled at Fred and George's joke about him in the chamber of secrets. That was only once. Arthur was still fine with Percy in other situations as seen throughout the books. PERCY is the one who decided that the ministry full of egotistical morons was right, and that his entire family AND harry WHO SAVED PERCY'S SISTER were wrong. He didn't even go visit his father after Nagini bit him, even though he could have died he didn't even bother go and visit him. Yes, he apologized for his actions, but still, you people are speaking like it's the rest of his family's fault and that he didn't do anything wrong.
@@cbfranco3307Yeah totally normal when your siblings bully you in front of the whole school and constantly make you insecure of your interests as a teenager and nobody ever stands up for you even though you're clearly upset. @@justsomeone6593 Haven't read the books in a while, so you're gonna have to give me examples that qualify as straight up bullying, please. Anyways, it's only by Fed and George, who yeah, are assholes. I'm not calling him a monster or saying that no one ever did anything to him, I'm saying people should stop acting like he's completely innocent.
Being the Minister of Magic's personal ass-kisser is not an achievement, it's a testament to what a pathetic little worm Percy was. David Spade could do the job better, and he's a Muggle. It shouldn't have taken the death of his brother to make him get his shit together.
Not really, before he had the fight with Arthur his mother was extremely proud of him. Of course he could've felt overshadowed by Bill and Charlie but I doubt it since he had very good grades and a successful career
I don't feel sorry for him. He walked out on his family. His parents were proud of him. Don't forget that Molly reached out to Percy more than once. She believe that family should stick together and she wanted all of them to live.
i dont know what youre on about. Molly and Arthur were extremely proud of him and gave him rewards for his efforts (like when they gave him his owl Hermes in the first book).
Hermione's friendship with Percy was her only believable friendship and her only friendship that wasn't obviously just authorial fiat. Remember how they immediately strike up a civil conversation after Hermione's sorting (about Transfiguration).
@@cityman2312 you really don't like Hermione, do you? "Authorial Fiat"? True, authors do make stuff up. But, Fiat? Come on . That's why they're authors. They write, they weave a story. They're not real people, they're characters. That said, Hermione had genuine friends. I will grant you that she & Percy are both quite pedantic about the rules & regulations & nobody likes that. However, Percy was certainly not her "only" naturally occurring friend within the Harry Potter saga after their conversation with the during hat. And, she was surely not friendless based on the author's intent or design throughout the series. She may have similarities with Percy based on intellect, book-learning, adherence to the rules, etc... But, your calculation about the character's personality is subjective & unwarranted. (BTW, initially, I read Hermione much along the same lines. In a lot of the early books she comes across as annoying & fuddy-duddy. I wanted to punch her in some scenes in the book. But, upon subsequent readings I gave her a leeway, and came to realize her as a character in her own right. Not as an extension of me, or any reader, but as her own character. So I'm coming from that POV.) 🤷♀️❤️👍✌️🕊️🤓
While they had many similarities, I always took Hermione as simply being thirty for knowledge, with her habit of being against rule breaking being more about her not wanting to be expelled and thus unable to keep learn, where as Percy's intelligence always coming second to his trait of being very ambitious. So yeah they made sense as friends but weren't exactly alike.
I know his character isn't likeable, but damn his family was so passive of him. Every thing he accomplished was put down and teased. When Harry came into the picture, Percy was even less welcome, idk I can just see why he was the way he was. His family didn't accept him so he wanted to do more to be accepted by others. 🤷
Yes, it's actually annoying to see him getting bullied in earlier school years by his younger siblings when he wanted to improve his life (and thus of this family too). It's all about 'haha, what a rule-nerd you are' from his younger brothers :/
Honestly i realy can feel how Percy needed to feel becauce my family was the same until i leave them. I know for many their family is the most sacred of all things but people need to understand that family is not equaly means love or care. Edit: Thank you so much for all the liked I never thought It got so many Support
he changed and I think the family the entire family needed him. I see Bill as the oldest uncle the one you can turn to if you have a problem he can help. Charlie the uncle who can take you places and show you animals. Percy is the strict uncle but he means well because he wants you to be balanced, George is the funny uncle or the big softie or lets you get away with anything, Ron is the uncle who has been there and done that, can show you how to be your own person and Ginny she is the maternal relative who is helpful and sporty.
I don’t think Percy is a bad guy at all. For his entire life, all of his siblings would relentlessly make fun of him whenever he accomplished anything and was the butt of many jokes. Sure, he was full of himself and had no trouble showing off, but I think that was more an attempt to impress his family who he could never seem to make proud of him. And then, when he was fresh out of Hogwarts, he got a job at the ministry. And, rather than being happy for him, his entire family couldn’t have been any less interested in anything he was doing. And then, in GoF, Harry comes back with the body of his dead classmate after the maze. Literally no one saw what happened except for Harry, and Harry’s story honestly sounds kind of ridiculous if you weren’t there with him. So, it doesn’t shock me that before OotP, Percy sided with the ministry instead of his family (after they had also told him that he didn’t actually deserve his job, the ministry just wanted to spy on the Weasley’s, which was probably true but that’s a really hurtful thing to hear your family say). And then there was the letter that Percy sent to Ron, telling him to stay away from Harry. Now, obviously, Percy does care about his siblings. In CoS, he was the one that noticed something was wrong with Ginny and comforted her. So, it’s understandable that he wouldn’t want his little brother to hang around with someone who’s almost gotten him killed numerous times (Philosophers Stone, CoS, and then he thought Harry disobeyed rules in GoF and put out his name in the gof, and then he thought he was lying about Voldemort’s return). Obviously, it wasn’t a good thing to send but I can see where he’s coming from. After OotP, Percy still doesn’t come back to his family because he was understandably embarrassed (his biggest mistake was that he didn’t immediately apologize), but, in HBP, when Percy comes to the Burrow with Scrimgeour (he was obviously being used by Scrimgeour at that point to get to Harry’s whereabouts), the twins threw food at him (which yeah he deserved but he’s obviously not going to go apologize after that greeting). But, in DH, during the Battle of Hogwarts, Percy comes back and apologizes for everything and he admits that he was in the wrong and proceeds to fight alongside his family during the battle. And it was because of Percy that Fred Weasley died laughing. It was also Percy that cried over Fred’s dead body and shielded it from all of the fighting. It was Percy that didn’t leave Fred’s side until Harry helped him move the body somewhere safe. And it was also Percy that hunted down and killed the death eater that murdered Fred. Sorry for going on a rant, but I feel like Percy’s an overhated character (especially when half the fandom simps for Draco, who never apologized for anything he did).

Sucks that his youngest brother, who didn't seem to have much ambition, eneded up marrying a witch with muggle parents who ended up becoming the minister of magic.
Even though Percy might seem like a douchebag sometimes when he favors laws over friends and family, but you have to admit he's a good guy. For example, how much he cares about Ginny when she was in the chamber of secrets or when Ron was in the water in the Tri-wizard tournament Percy wouldn't let go of him until he was wrapped in a blanket. He just wants to have a successful career and he cares about his family and friends a lot even though it might not seem like it. He was blinded by how happy he was that he got his dream job that he did anything to protect that title, even if it meant neglecting his parents. He didn't understand fully how much suffering his actions were causing his family. This is later proven when he starts feeling shame for what he has done.
Yeah percy wasn’t a bad guy but he went down a bit of a bad path with the ministry and Umbridge I feel like had he been a bit closer to his younger brothers and respected them and they respected him a bit more I feel like the twins were kinda a main part of Percy becoming less close to his family I like that near the end of the war he became close to his family again but tbh the best thing jk could’ve done is to have percy sacrifice himself for Fred causing percy to die instead of him as we know he did love his family he just put forward his goals to much in a way he’s kinda similar to snape as snape while he did love lily after the bullying and stuff snape put forward his work and things over lily it’s basically the same with percy he put his studies and work ahead over family and friends

He was just a conscientious person, with a father complex, but he had a good heart that's why he was placed at griffeondor. With time he matured, it took a lot of courage to recognize his defaults and to shatter his ego to rebuild a new. I admire him as a character.
Same here a noble heart, loyalty to your family, and great courage to do what is right even in difficult situations are qualities for someone of House Gryffindor, and Percy showed them even if it took a while for him to show them.

I feel like Percy shouldn't get As much hate that he's getting. He was just trying to do what he thought was best, he wanted to prove that he was worthy of his parents attention. I think Percy was just trying to get the approval of his father and the others. He was the third oldest child, and quickly after him Fred and George were born, I feel like When George and Fred were born he stopped getting alot of attention since Molly and Arthur would be focussed on the twins then Ron then finally Ginny. Molly would've thought the older three could look after themselves leaving Percy in the shadows and to try to live up to Bill and Charlie who set massive expectations for the weasley since they did alot of important things. He got jealous quickly when Ron came best friends with Harry and got upset when his parents got proud at Ron for doing something Percy thought was stupid yet showed little attention when he did stuff he thought was worthy of attention from his parents. So with many siblings who caught his parents attention, he looked for attention from others of a higher rank and became snobbish. But he loves his siblings, he loved his family but he just wanted the attention he never got. The love for his family was clear in this video. Percy was the boy who never got the attention he craved. So yeah I don't believe Percy should be hated, everything he did was what he thought was best. He learnt to be a better person, and devolved into a great person. He had a massive character growth something some lack. Percy grew into a great husband and father and brother. He partly blamed himself for Fred's death and was mad at himself for not spending so much time with his brother. He was afraid that he wouldn't be able to be what his parents wanted him to be. He looked for others approval instead of his own, so he went with the ministry instead of his parents- thinking maybe if he got a really good job then he could make his parents proud and help them- maybe his father could retire. Percy turned into a powerful person going through a massive rollercoaster of emotions. If he didn't go through all that then maybe things would of been different and he would of gone to his brothers wedding and helped his family. Overall there's alot more depth that I think goes to Percy then that he was just a snobbish brat who betrayed his family. He's just a boy trying to make his parents proud and prove he's as good as his siblings.
I totally agree. Everyone arounds me hate percy and i disagree with them. Like you said before he just wanted to prove himself and do what he think is the best. At least he came on final battle against voldemort and death eaters so... Percy is actualy one of my favorite characters in books what i know is unpopular but still...
I really liked Percy... Though he was a bit strange, everyone has their own way of living..... He was an excellent student and regarded duties and studies as his topmost priorities...... Even I felt bad when he left his family for that Ministry, but he returned and his character in Deathly Hallows was something I loved. He cracked a joke and made Fred laugh. In the book, he also ran behind Rookwood for revenge for his brother's death...... He was too shaken by his death, though not more than other Weasleys.
It’s difficult being that one that stands out and is different from the rest of the family. Percy was a Weasley in the end but he had a difficult time finding his place in the family while still being himself. It’s very understandable the mistakes he made as a young man.

What the heck? He was being teased, not bullied. Molly and Arthur loves him as much as every one of his siblings, they were always proud of his achievements. Molly even constantly compares the twins to him, as she regards him as most behaved out of the lot. They bought him new robes and an owl at a time when Ron was starting at Hogwarts and their money wasn't really flowing. The twins likes teasing him because that's what they do to show their affection (Fred even teased him about his "joke" right before he dies). Ron doesn't like him cause he's too uptight and always talks about rules and policies, but he loves him just as much. So is Ginny. So is his 2 older brothers. Percy receives love and support from his family, it's just that he wants more than that. Stop making the Weasley's look bad. Percy betrayed his family for his ambitions, and took 2 years to admit he was wrong and to ask for forgiveness. He was embarrassed about them being poor, and more embarrassed to have a father like Arthur who doesn't have an ambition as big as his.
I certainly don't blame him for wanting a better life than the life his parents had. Yes both his parents are amazing and loving, something that all parents should be but the family was poor at the end of the day. Percy didn't want that for himself. Of course that doesn't completely excuse abandoning his family for his job.
@@drownedexe.2227 obviously you haven't read the books. Do me a favor, please read them. Don't insult any fvcking character if you have just seen the movies.
I feel like he was put in Gryfindor not because of his parents and brothers but because deep down he had tons of courage and bravery but it would become buried beneath ambition and hard work, and after he lost his job when Fudge was sacked his ambitions dropped and he came back to help his family.
Yeh but he was an obnoxious prick about his achievements. His older brothers were just as successful academically and they were not teased or taunted because they weren't uptight, egocentric pricks about it. And he turned on his family after his father, rather reasonably imo, said that he was promoted to his position of assistant to the Minister for Magic in order to spy on his family. In the end, his dad was right as once he cut off contact with his family, he was little more than an errand boy for the Minister. And while the twins sometimes took it a bit too far, some degree of teasing and harassing is is normal among siblings. It certainly didnt help that he was an obnoxious know-it-all who often belittled and was ashamed of his own family. I pity him, but a lot of his strife is self-inflicted. Kid's ultimately a jackass for a great deal of the story.
@@digitalgloop12 I certainly wouldn't blame him for being pissed at his dad for saying that. Yes his dad was right and yes Percy had a big ego but still. I don't think a kid wants to be told by his parent that he only got something because of an outside factor and not their ability. No that does not justify how he abandoned his family for two-three years though.
Percy was obnoxious and pompous about his achievements. He was also bragging that he's better. When he made Head Boy he was showing off his badge. That's why Fred and George were teasing him so much.
I used to hate Percy when I was a kid but as a grown up, I kinda feel sorry for him. Yeah, he had his defects but I think he betrayed his family only because he felt they didn't give him enough credit and attention (apart from his mother). I mean, his brothers were ashamed of him not for his defects but for his achievements. That is really messed up. Also, people seem to forget smug Percy was just an act. He showed several times he cared deeply about his family. He was probably the most affected when Ginny was kidnapped. He was damn proud of Ron when he beat McGonagall's chess trial (btw Ron also doesn't get enough credit for that). He didn't give a damn about protocol when Ron was rescued from the lake. Every time Gryffindor won at something he let go of his self imposed dignity to join the celebrations. Dunno why, but all my dislike for Percy seemed to shift towards the twins as I grew up, especially Fred. Yes, they were funny most of the times but sometimes they were shown to be kinda evil (like almost killing people and not feeling any remorse about it).
@Neetu Yadav they were jokesters and joked alot they even tortured Ron growing up they the reason he fears spiders. And they almost have Ron do the unbreakable vow luckily their father caught them before it was too late.
@Max Docore it showed with Ron too. When he destroying the horcrux . The horcrux mentions all of Ron's insecurities. 1 the spiders, 2 his mom wanting a daughter instead of him, and 3 Hermione wanting Harry instead of him.
Dude - I never realized that even though Percy was pretentious - his siblings were major assholes to him, they took it too far. It's kinda frustrating that he obviously was very ambitious - but super unfortunate his father and older brothers weren't involved at all in helping temper and direct it in healthy ways when he was younger. He's LITERALLY the ignored/excluded middle child, through and through. He had the pressure of measuring up to older brothers, was entirely overlooked by his father, it seems fairly natural for him to develop resentment towards him. Which was DOUBLE disappointment, since it of all his children, Percy's ambitions and interests were the most like his father's, and yet Percy seems to be the one missy alienated from him. It seems extreme overkill how he was later characterized - simply to fulfill the role of "collaborator" for the plot. I mean, his siblings were turds to him. It's one of those rules in life - people are different things to different people. To everyone else, the Weasley siblings were super cool fun people - except to Percy. For Percy, he was basically the easy target/whet stone George and Fred sharpened their pranks and insults on - which made having a congenial relationship with Ron and Ginny impossible, because they simply mirrored their older brother's derision towards him. Anyhow, the only problem I had with Percy's redemption arc is that it really should have happened way way way sooner. But then, the primary barrier to that reconciliation was the obstinacy and temper of Mr. Wesley - and Percy, wanting to surpass his father in general, wasn't going to be out done by him in stubbornness either. It goes to show, it's the people you care about the most who hurt you the most, too. I would have found Percy's reconciliation being more believable when he finally visited the cottage and his mother hugged him. Given her own temper - and the obvious clarity/urgency/perspective the exposure of Voldemort would cause - I can't imagine Mr. Weasley allowing the tensions to continue - especially since the work of the Ministry just became exponentially more dangerous. But at least she gave him a redemption arc at all lol.
The Weasly twins were so loved by everyone, but let's face it , because of Arthur and Molly absolutely pampering them till 16 , they caused so much shit around them . They belittled Percy so much , crushed Ron's confidence in many ways ( even Hermione reckoned that Ron having some time apart from twin might give him confidence) , they teased Ginny so much all day everyday that she felt like baring her soul to Tom freaking Riddle . Bill and Charlie were the perfect kids , Ginny was the only daughter, Fred and George were like her brother's reincarnation to Molly , when Ron and the twins were Arthur's favourite. Percy was the most ignored. To have a new robe , an owl , he had to get 12 owls and become a Prefect and his ambitions weren't appreciated. Of course he went a bit wayward. He was pretentious, but so many teens are ! Percy had his faults, kinda annoying and really thought the ministry was nothing but right . At least he finally came back and it took a great deal of courage to do so . He could have come back sooner but Ginny and the twins threw food at him on the Christmas dinner and he stormed out . Those twins were hella annoying.
Don’t think there should be a bias of Percy being the worst weasley. He was bullied, overlooked and out of place with the rest of his family. Just because he had ambition for his passion and chose that over his family at the time doesn’t make him bad, just at the time misled. He eventually found his way back to everyone despite everything they had put each other through
Anne Day Ron turned his back on Harry, if you remember. He left Harry and Hermione in the middle of nowhere during a war. But nah, go off on Percy, who just wanted to distinguish himself in a house full of asshole children.
klj788986sbb Ron turned his back on Harry/ Hermione because the horcrux amplified his insecurity, feeling of inadequacy and poisoned his mind (plus he didn’t leave because he has a huge ego or ambition as Percy did). After he took it off he came back and saved Harry.
@Anne Day Seems to me Percy's biggest mistake was not blindly believing Dumbledore and Harry about Voldemort being back. And then being insulted by his father for getting a promotion. Which he still kept even after leaving the family. So that disproves Arthur theory for why he got the promotion. Frankly the Weasleys put Harry and Dumbledore before their actual kid.
Jaleesa Greene That’s what I’m saying. Ron already has his feeling of inferiority when he’s around with his two best friends (he think he’s not as clever as Hermione, not as skillful or famous like Harry) that’s why he got jealous of Harry about triwizard thing and had a row with Harry for a while (but he apologize afterward). I’m not saying he did the right thing but I understand his flaw. After all, he’s the one (along with Neville) who stand up against Voldemort to protect Harry’s reputation.
Percy was the most successful weasley even tho he wasn’t the most perfect weasley but in the end he was the one who had to deal with Fred’s death the most apart from his parents and he’s brother George
The Weasleys pushed Percy away. He's a perfectionist and an orderly person and was born into a large family where everyone is the extreme opposite of him. They never tried to understand him or adapt to his needs or helped him adapt to theirs
Percy was no better he was more than happy to act like Harry was unstable liar despite knowing him for years. And he never made any attempts to try and see things from other perspectives than his own

Percy is a character you understand more as you get older. Sure, he took things too far, but it had an understandable motivation. He didn't feel like his family supported him, and unfortunately, it made him bitter, and his ambition turned to pride.
Possibly the most nuanced and underrated tragic character in the whole franchise. His character summed up the story of harry potter through his own life. Really a beautiful character arc.
Percy also reminds me of my brother, He also locks himself in a room. Has a girlfriend that name starts with P. His name starts with P. Also has a little sister (me) Only comes down to eat with the Family. But at the end of the day we love each other despite the arguments 💖
He might of been the worst Weasley but he was a more interesting character. Since he was the opposite of all the Weasley who were all somewhat copies of each other
Rowling really failed to keep the house sorting in check. Really if you consider the traits that most of the weasleys show they would have been more hufflepuff rather than gryffindor, with ginny and percy belonging to slytherin with how percy had all that ambition and ginny was cunny with a good amount of ambition. but "The sorting hat takes the preferences of the person into account."
To be fair, Harry probably had outperformed everyone there before getting in. How many other Aurors killed a basilisk at 12, went against 100+ dementors at 13, outflew a dragon, messed with mermaids, fought Voldemort at 14, broke into the ministry and faced deatheaters at 15... You got the picture. If he didn't got in, then heck, what standards are we talking about?
@@Lrd_Storm Harry suffers from what I’d like to call “forced greatness” As “the boy who lived” and the only person Voldemort failed to kill. He had an air of mystery surrounding him. There were ANY number of reasons Harry could’ve survived. That is what enthralled most people. The mystery made them afraid, but captivated by what they didn’t understand. That being the case the details of his(mis)deeds were always greatly hyped up. Not necessarily exaggerated as he still did have many amazing feats for a wizard as young as he was, but still greatly hyped up in the public eye. If people just believed him about Voldemort he would have never been forced to do so many things himself. The basilisk, the tournament, the order, and then running for his life and tracking down Horcruxes. He’d have had the best Auror’s after all those things which would’ve put down the threat of the dark lords return at least to a higher degree. Being the only wizard who really understood Voldemorts weaknesses and being THE wizard to have killed him Harry was privileged to have ANY position he wanted, perhaps even minister of magic himself. To those who understood the hardships, Harry is a man who rose to the challenge. To the general public who feared the dark lord Harry is God amongst men who succeeded where even Dumbledore failed.

Percy only had himself and so built a little world around himself but in the end blood was stronger than water.

Percy is a mix between good and bad. He certainly showed that Gryffindor has a bad side, with his stubbornness, but he simply wanted to be successful. He didn't visit his father after being bit by Nagini, but I feel for Percy. Whenever he tried to mention his accomplishments, he was openly mocked by all his siblings for it, and when Percy was prefect, people made fun of him, while Fred and George didn't openly mock Ron about it. Another thing is, when he started to build up a love life, only Ginny knew and he deeply trusted her with that secret, but she spilled it to the rest of the family, (Except his parents) I love the Weasleys so much, and all equally, and the family drama with Percy made the books and movies 10× better
@Logia dude his parents weren't horrible. Fred and George were. And you fans can't admit the twins can be jerks. They 'teased' him, but probably meant every word.
Yall since when does older siblings need the parents to protect them just bc their younger sibling teased them. Is he the baby or sumn bc hes literally older than them but ur saying hes like this bc his parents didnt baby him around when the young ones tease him?
@Logia SD Thanks for ignoring what I said and bringing up an entirely separate point. I was never talking about neglect. I was stating that the twins' teasing at times was not harmless
@Logia SD I love how just because Percy didn't show any outward behavior of being affected, you think it's ok to do things like that. "He didn't look upset so the twins were fine to do things like that!!!" And I'm sure if you saw a kid get jumped in the street, and he didn't look sad after, you'd probably think it was just boys having harmless fun.
I personally believe that Percy isn't a bad character. He had ambitions yes, but that was only because his family teased him with every accomplishment throughout his years at Hogwarts. He pursued his dreams of working for the Ministry not to spite his friends and family but to prove to them what he wanted to do.
The idea that Voldemort was dead wasn't just told to him by Fudge. It was the prevailing wisdom of the entire wizarding world aside from Harry, Dumbledore, and the rest of Weasley family. You can't prove a negative and you can't blame him for favoring the side that, at the time, surely seemed to be the more rational one.
@@Good_Watch well was there anything conclusive? As frustrating as I'm sure as it was for Harry, we've got to understand that hearsay is not a valid source of information.
@@Good_Watch plus if you base this on perspectives Percy was never there to see anything until too late so to him it wouldn't make sense if Voldemort came everyone feared Voldemort except for that one guy so there may have been denial
I like to think it was because he was already insecure about not being accepted in the Weasley household as much as his siblings were, so he asked/begged for the hat to put him there. But realistically, as much as I hate to say it, it was probably the Gryffindor bias.
If you paid attention to the books you would know that the Hat sorts them by what they VALUE NOT what they HAVE, so if at 11 Percy valued the Gryff traits and not the Slyth ones that's where he would be put. And if even at age 11 he felt like he didn't belong with the rest of the Weasleys and didn't want to give them another reason to torment him he would have begged for the hat to put him Gryffindor instead of any other house where he might have been happier.
He had a dream job and his family rarely encouraged it... I completely understand Percy's perspective and what drove him to distance himself from the people who didn't care to try and reinforce his goals. Family is important, but you should always do what is needed to peruse and walk on your own path. He is a pretty solid case of an emotional abuse victim, before he started his job at the ministry, do to how his father and younger brothers treated him... it sucks how his actions affected the other members of his family so negatively, but if I had a personal goal that high, I can't say I wouldn't do the same. Luckily he knew better and mended his relationship with his family before his brother died, but who could have predicted that your whole family would go to war.
Yeah, but there is no proof from before the stuff post GoF that Arthur didn't support Percy's ambitions. It's really just the twins who were jerks to him, but to be fair he was that egotistical, even if he was a hard worker. And even then, judging by how Fred reacted to Percy's Joke, it seems like the twins just wanted him to stop being such a stick in the mud. Not stop his ambitions, just to maybe poke fun at something from time to time.
Please stop throwing the word "abuse" around like it means nothing. His siblings teased him about his pompous and self-important personality. That's not abuse.
@@katherine6326 Then can you provide examples of them acting as if they genuinely liked him? @@BilkoMX124 Dude. I just wrote what I thought. It's not very hard to come to this conclusion after watching this video.
@Dawid Stawowski That too.
Percy Weasley was a model student!🏆
@@gooby214 Yeah my opinion of James (and to a lesser degree Lily) slipped near the end of the story where Snape's memory reveals what they were really like. James was an insufferable bully and the rest of the marauders were sheep who did the same. Then Snape hurt Lily by calling her a mudblood and ending their friendship.

Percy is easily one of the most interesting Weasleys. He's an outsider and a perfectionist. People only hate him because he disturbs his siblings' antics and unlike his family which is so unfair.
I was just annoyed with him being a stick in the mud, I think he is trying too hard to be mature

Percy should 100% have been a Slytherin, ambitious, achievement oriented, strong leader, cunning, shrewd, he has so many slytherin traits yet he’s still a Gryffindor. (Also I’m not saying he’s evil, not all slytherins are evil)
and on top of that, slytherins are very family oriented, just like Percy, who in the end rejoins the family
iDontKnowWhatTfImDoing agreed
iDontKnowWhatTfImDoing yesssss

Totally normal that you have to try your best to hide that you have a girlfriend because you are so scared of what they would do. I hate it when people say your siblings can treat you however they want to because they are your siblings. Bullying is not okay in any instances. Some people do banter or have arguments but percy is just flat out bullied for comedy.
@@justsomeone6593 Haven't read the books in a while, so you're gonna have to give me examples that qualify as straight up bullying, please. Percy was still an asshole, I'm not saying everything was his fault, I'm saying everyone here is acting like he NEVER did ANYTHING wrong. Even though he himself admitted it. @@redrasegarden Exactly, but people act like he didn't and that it's everyone else's faults.
While I don’t really like him as a character, I feel kind of sorry for him because his achievements were kind of just brushed aside by his parents.
Well before any arguments he got new robes, owl and they were really proud of him. It was his fault when he shunned them
I don't feel sorry for him.
Percy is the male Hermione who never had Ron and Harry as a friend.
Rude 😡😡😡😡😡
It's a very scary thought that if Hermione had not met Harry and Ron that she would become Percy
Exactly!
True that!
Well said.

He was as sad as all the other Weasley’s except for George of course. I mean, I could never imagine loosing a twin as I’m not one

It’s difficult being that one that stands out and is different from the rest of the family. Percy was a Weasley in the end but he had a difficult time finding his place in the family while still being himself. It’s very understandable the mistakes he made as a young man.
This has really changed my view on him.
Percy is pure Gryffindor, it takes balls to stand up to his family in order to work in what he believed was right even when they didn’t agree with him. He wasn’t ambitious he wanted their attention.
I agree, that was his way of gaining glory, which is something Gryffindors do. This can make them arrogant

@@adriansneen5627 i think this shows how similar slytherin & gryffindor can actually be
Tbh I don't think he's all that bad, you can't expect him to love his family when all they did was bully him for wanting a good future.
@NotIamJess Gacha They weren't bullying him, but they (mostly his siblings allthough it isnt anyones fault that they did this cause they were young and immature and so didn't understand the effect of their teasing) didn't recognise his discomfort at their jokes at his expense and had no tolerance for his differences (not that he had any tolerance for theirs either)
His parents always defended him tho..
@Alexis Recine not sometimes, always
I certainly don't blame him for wanting a better life than the life his parents had. Yes both his parents are amazing and loving, something that all parents should be but the family was poor at the end of the day. Percy didn't want that for himself. Of course that doesn't completely excuse abandoning his family for his job.
Even the worst Weasley would fight against Voldemort when the time comes. What a family!
I wouldn't say he's the worst Weasley. I don't have one, though.

I feel kinda bad for him for being shit on so much by everyone while all he's doing is studying and working hard.
Kid's ultimately a jackass for a great deal of the story.
......and he abandoned his family just for "promotion"
@@digitalgloop12 I certainly wouldn't blame him for being pissed at his dad for saying that. Yes his dad was right and yes Percy had a big ego but still. I don't think a kid wants to be told by his parent that he only got something because of an outside factor and not their ability. No that does not justify how he abandoned his family for two-three years though.
Lots of words...
Thats a lot of letters
Percy is like Ben Tennyson but has responsibilities to his siblings
@Max Docore what
@Neetu Yadav they were jokesters and joked alot they even tortured Ron growing up they the reason he fears spiders.

@@nont18411 What about fourth year
@Anne Day Seems to me Percy's biggest mistake was not blindly believing Dumbledore and Harry about Voldemort being back.

Percy was ambitious not bad, why was he in Gryffindoor. He should be in Slytherin with all that ambitiousness

Meanwhile Harry and Ron getting in without a diploma.
@@Lrd_Storm Harry suffers from what I’d like to call “forced greatness”
As “the boy who lived” and the only person Voldemort failed to kill.

I like to think it was because he was already insecure about not being accepted in the Weasley household as much as his siblings were, so he asked/begged for the hat to put him there. But realistically, as much as I hate to say it, it was probably the Gryffindor bias.
All slytherins is’nt bad and all gryffindors are is’nt perfect;)
If you paid attention to the books you would know that the Hat sorts them by what they VALUE NOT what they HAVE, so if at 11 Percy valued the Gryff traits and not the Slyth ones that's where he would be put. And if even at age 11 he felt like he didn't belong with the rest of the Weasleys and didn't want to give them another reason to torment him he would have begged for the hat to put him Gryffindor instead of any other house where he might have been happier.
maybe because hes weasley
Percy reminds me of the kid who corrected the teacher in class every day.
I think he was trying too hard to get validation.
