How Magnificent and Majestic. True, only a real “Oceanliner” can navigate such a ferocious ocean. God Bless QE 2 and Cunard. Please build another liner like her.
Now I have seen this I want to go on QM2 more than ever - thanks for this - beautiful. I would be all bundled up and just watch the magnificent ocean for ages 'til I was numb with cold, then dive inside for something hot and alcoholic to chase the cold away - perfection.
That'd be me, the only one sat outside watching the ocean and the snow, and thinking I'd never probably have the experience ever again. Just looks beautiful 😊
I was on this crossing. We did have some incredible waves, which sent my bed careening across the room. Also, my nightstand jumped up from the floor and turned on its side, breaking the lamp. But that didn’t last long. I was never afraid and never sick. It’s an amazing cruise and cruise line. I highly recommend it.
@@beefancy3292 It was, wasn’t it? I was there with my dance teachers. We were in the Queen’s Room every night. It was my first time on QM2. Trying to figure out how to go back again.

Thanks a lot for this amazing video. Great to watch and to see snow. Makes me remembering my Atlantic crossing from Southampton to New York on QE2 in May 1987. We had there some quite stormy wheather with heavy rain and waves coming over ship's bow. And then after getting out of swelling and strong winds, captain had to change route due to iceberg warning. Everybody then was just thinking about Titanic 😮and finally we reached New York only with 6 hours delay. In meantime I have been on a lot of ships cruising the whole world. But Atlantic crossing with Cunard on the QE2 and flying back to London with Concorde was one of the most memorable and best journeys I've ever had in my life. Greetings from South Pacific, island Moorea, French-Polynesia (moved over from Europe) 🏖🌴🦈🌊🌞🐳🇵🇫🇫🇷🇪🇺 - sometimes missing snow ☃️
Thanks for filming this, @Wayfarer Sketches. Very interesting to see. I sailed on the QM2 back in 2006 from NYC to Halifax, Nova Scotia and back with stops in Newport, Rhode Island, Boston, and Bar Harbor, Maine. Loved it. Very classy ship. So interesting to see a snowstorm in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Well done, you, for braving the elements to video it.
That had to have been brutal. I remember being on deck in the low 40's (F) with rain and the damp and cold went right through you! While I always enjoyed them, my deep appreciation for the QM2's wonderful bed linens came into play that day when I snuggled in under the covers with a hot cup of Earl Grey and watched the North Atlantic rage.
When I see those awesome winter pictures, I have trouble imagining how much power that boat must have to plow through that winter weather, and keep all the passengers warm and comfortable inside. Thumbs up.
Thank you for this tour it's amazing how long that ship is and the Seas do not seem too rough and the ship will take the ice as long as everything is balanced so it's what you call enjoying an event that you usually don't have and I think you are enjoying it just the fact that you're putting it on video and sharing your folks like us thank you
I've often wondered why Cunard has QM2 schedule transatlantic crossings well into the winter while seemingly a bit lighter than it could be during Spring and Summer. Now I know why. Having seen this I have to believe that there is an enthusiastic 'cult' following for the winter crossing. Just beautiful. Lovely to see the enthusiastic crew (at 2:30) out on deck taking photos.
I did a summer crossing last July, and seriously considering doing a pre-Christmas crossing this December! May not be everyone's "cup of tea" but I think the QM2 looks awesome in the snow!
Yes, the crew looked like they were loving it! On the crossing I did last July, a lot of the crew we talked to told us they were from tropical regions and I’m guessing quite a few had never had a chance to see snow before, or rarely saw it, so I bet that was a fun experience especially enjoying it out at sea!
Yes, absolutely! The lady writing in the snow told us it was her first time seeing snow. She was so excited! I only captured a few crew during that walk-around, but after the snow settled a bit, lots of crew came out, taking pictures, building snowmen etc- a really joyous occasion!
Good luck to them lol - I wouldn't risk it. I'm sure they are perfectly *safe* but I would think not at all comfortable. I've been on QM2 and Queen Victoria, and even Victoria is not stable enough in high seas for my liking.
Surprised passengers allowed on the upper deck in foul weather. Snow on those decks and stairways = slip , slide and with those guard rails SPLASH! Good night Vienna.
When I was crew we had a really rough sea day before getting to New York in the winter- pools closed, water sloshing out of them. I had to go to the Terrace Bar for something the next morning when we arrived. One side of the deck was under more than an inch of ice from the water that had sloshed out and there were horizontal icicles on all the metal rails
Very beautiful to see. We had a real rough Northsea on our way to Norway. I loved, loved, loved it and was not seasick. Have a great (cruise)life everybody.
Thank you W Sketches for your reply. Always looking for any news on Queen Mary 2. That crossing I had her tracking / position in tandem with one of the storms Queen Mary 2 was on its Southern Flank toward the eastern edge of the Grand Banks. @@deananthony1000 Of course there are differences. The QM2 is constucted with (if memory serves) 30% more steel than an equivalent size cruise ship. WOW! This is what an Ocean Liner is built for. I’ve been seeing comments that Carnival, Royal, and those ships do transatlantic. That’s not the point. Sure, they can do transatlantic but not a lot, they would need repairs constantly. That’s because of how the ship is built, the materials, and what she was originally designed for.
