Wayfarer Sketches
Добавлен 29 дек 2023
Hello! I try to capture the sights and sounds of the places I visit, so you can experience a bit of the atmosphere too. I'm brand new to RUclips and film making, so am very appreciative of your support and encouragement!
Taiwan's Musical Garbage Truck
If you've ever been to Taiwan, you'll recognise the sound of their musical garbage trucks. Here, one blasts out Bądarzewska-Baranowska's The Maiden's Prayer, Op. 4, as it rolls through the cobbled streets of Yingge (鶯歌), Taiwan's famous pottery district.

Sheng Hsing (勝興) Station, Taiwan
Просмотров 609 месяцев назад
A walk to the historical Sheng Hsing train station in Taiwan's Miaoli County. Built in 1906 by the Japanese entirely of wood, it was once the highest station on Taiwan's Western railway line, standing at 402 metres above sea level. Due to its historical significance, it was kept as a tourist attraction when regular passenger services ended in 1998. Today at the station you can board a Rail Bike...
Taiwan's Remote Mountain Rail Bike
Просмотров 1949 месяцев назад
Completed in 1908 by the Japanese, the 15.9 km "Old Mountain Line Railway" formed part of Taiwan's main western line. It was an engineering feat in its day, having the line's steepest and most winding stretch of track, longest tunnel, and longest steel railroad bridge. Until service was discontinued in 1998, it was a major artery for transporting coal, timber and fruits from Miaoli to other par...
Maritime Greenwich where East meets West
Просмотров 499 месяцев назад
London's Royal Borough of Greenwich is situated on the banks of the River Thames, famous for its maritime history and site of the Prime Meridian. In 1884 the Greenwich Meridian (north-south line) was voted as the world's Prime Meridian, or longitude 0. It divides the Eastern and Western hemispheres just as the equator divides the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Every location on earth was me...

A short glimpse into a very festive day at the Strasburg Railroad.
Just shows what a great ship she is
That would be great 👌
Only been on warm weather cruises, doing a Rome to new York in October of 25 hope it’s not too bad. Great video
It would be interesting to see we’re The Queen Mary 2 was located during this Snowstorm!
This looks absolutely wonderful. Your video perfectly encapsulates what I'm looking for in a voyage like this, without a word being spoken.
Beautiful! I haven't crossed during the winter and I've wondered what the allure was of a January crossing. Now I know and it's now on my bucket list.
Hi, I love this video very much. I hope I will go on QM2 some day. Thanks for posting.
Thank you so much! Hope you get to travel on the QM2 one day :)
@@WayfarerSketches Your Welcome. I had nice chat with you on Facebook yesterday and talk about QM2 and C &O Railroad Car ferries. I uploaded video " My car ferries trip on Chessie Car ferries " into You Tube this morning. I miss car ferries. I will go on QM2 next time. 😊
Also, I want to go on Alaska or New England/Canada cruise, too. I like QE and QV, too. They were beautiful ships and small ships. Did you go on other cruise trip before? I went on Caribbean cruise from Florida 9 times. I got tired of it and modern ships. I love S.S. Norway and S.S, Rembrandt. They were gone. Too bad that I didn't go on older QE. Did you go on older QE?
It was lovely. Ship was beautiful and look like old ocean liner.
Hi Heather, It is lovely. I can see bow went up and down.
We are on this ship for 4 weeks in November. Two transatlantic crossings and two weeks in the Caribbean can't wait now. Will need a diet once we get home.
'Will need a diet once we get home' - You certainly will! The desserts, in particular, are impossible to resist 😊 We were on the Eastbound crossing three weeks ago and absolutely loved everything about it. The weather was a little kinder than it is in this video, though 😎
One day I will make this trip westbound.
Can you feel it rocking? I was getting seasick watching that motion
She is an engineering marvel and no wonder she can withstand such monstrous waves. She is equally very classic and graceful as her name
Great video, Thanks for taking us round with you, Awesome Ship. 🚢👍🏻🛳️😃
I was on the Queen Mary two years ago when the crew were washing a small area of deck, perhaps twenty feet across, beside where I was sitting. It was covered in foam-one crew member was doing the actual cleaning while two others stood, one on either side to stop passengers crossing. There were also cleaning in progress cones. An American couple came up and asked if they could pass. The crew member said it might be slippery-if they could wait a couple of minutes until he'd rinsed it or else they could go inside and come out again the other side of the area in question which would take perhaps thirty seconds.Instead they chose to walk across and the woman promptly fell-not heavily as she clutched the crew member and he more or less lowered her down.Cue screeching, yelling, threats of suing.I was called to the Purser the next day and asked to be a witness for the ship-the couple were both attorneys and were indeed going to sue for negligence. As I said, that was two years ago and the case is STILL ongoing.I had to go back to the States to give evidence (on the Queen Mary both ways, fully paid for by Cunard!) and I'm hoping it continues andIi get another trip! The couple will ultimately lose, there's no way they can possibly win but why does the legal process in the United States takes so long?
I was one of the passengers on this crossing.
I was on this very crossing.
👍👍👍👍
👍👍👍👍
We have just booked the Christmas Caribbean cruise leaving NY 12/21 and returning 1/3/25. Happy we are headed south. And first time on a cruise. Excellent video.
This is nothing l have bigger waves in my bathtub.
Only you Making of Graffics not real!!!
There was some Atlantic storm also from NYC to Bermuda on January 12th to 13th. The ship was swaying a lot. It was on Norwegian Getaway. Except we did not have snow, we had strong winds and rain.
Fabulous footage
I've posted this on other videos, but I'll add it here as well: that promenade can be surprisingly cold--even in August. The middle of the Atlantic Ocean is cold in the summer and colder in the winter. That's not meant to discourage anyone from making this trip. It's just meant to encourage travelers to take a warm jacket or coat (no matter the season) in order to enjoy the fresh air and exquisite ocean views while making the crossing.
👌
THAT'S the ship i want to sail on ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Жалко не показали видео с бака ,это было бы монументально..
Totally cool!! The only way to travel❤. Why don’t more people do this? I know you want more time at your destination and may not have enough time built in for getting there And there are people like me 🤮🤮🤮. But this is so classy ❤. But I guess more people want the floating shopping malls and theme parks.
Oh, how fascinating! But I can feel the cold, brrrr. :)
Thanks for your video, I will board this ship in Sydney this February 😊!
Amazing!
Thank you W Sketches for your reply. Always looking for any news on Queen Mary 2. That crossing I had her tracking / position in tandem with one of the storms Queen Mary 2 was on its Southern Flank toward the eastern edge of the Grand Banks. The storms central pressure was at 967 HPA, thus snow and storm force conditions. Thanks to NOAA MSLP Chart of Atlantic. Again I appreciate your response I may get a chance to sail with her later in year Brad Donaldson
The run up Long Island Sound with the haunting dawn channel bells with my balcony overlooking The Statue of Liberty will stay with me forever!
I don't think QM2 travels the Long Island Sound. She usually travels the Atlantic Ocean alongside the southern shore of Long Island, then under the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge into New York Harbor. She enters Buttermilk Channel with her port side to the pier.
Happy days....
Rather sit at home have a few beers and watch a snowstorm. Save thousands
Watching it from India.
What are thoes white totes stacked on top of each other? 3 minute mark. Awesome video. Id love to work on an amazing ship like this.
Those are life rafts, which the ship has in addition to the life boats. Glad you enjoyed the video!
2:38 The joy of seeing snow for the first time in your life
Искам да съм там, а не на карибски круиз. Изживяване на морската стихия е пълно, макар и в комфорт.
I crossed the Atlantic 14 times as a child, on the Queen Elizabeth and the first Queen Mary. I loved it even when there was a storm. But it never snowed. Thanks for bringing back memories !
Wow, how amazing to have travelled on those ships! Really glad the video brought back those great memories
That baby snowman is delightful. 😂❤
I would absolutely love to have a trip aboard this magnificent ship, she’s just amazing ❤
Wouldn't get me on one of those things surrounded by all that water, doesn't matter how big the ship is you are at the mercy of the water.
It's not for everyone, but the QM2 has a lot of safeguards that other ships don't. Still, it's not everyone's enjoyment.
Did you get sea sick in that swell ?
I didn't get seasick, although unfortunately I think some were
I would never want to be on that cold crossing.
Wow!❄️
Praise God for keeping this ship and everyone on it safe.
Thank you for this video - one more thing I don't have to feel I must do is to go on a big ship, let alone in winter!
That’s really surreal to me when I cruise it’s always sunny Caribbean and The Bahamas, I would like to do an Atlantic crossing once and go through the Panama Canal
