I love seeing people react to Wintersun for the first time. When I first heard it, it just moved me to places I've never been before, and knocked my fucking socks off, and I'm still not wearing any socks. All time favorite band and will remain that way until the day I die. Every single song of theirs is a masterpiece. They are absolutely incredible live. The songwriting, lyricism.... melodically... everything is just out of this world material, and it is crafted by the big nosed troll called Jari Mäenpää. I don't think the world has ever seen a musical genius of this proportion. His epicness is analogous to if you took all the regarded best classical composers of all time, and compressed them into one man, one god of melody.
Check out Wintersun - Time live rehearsal at sonic pump studios next! The solo on that song is so beautiful and epic that it often makes me cry.
Every time I watch this video I'm just bummed out that I can't erase it from my memory and watch it for the first time again. It is quite the experience to hear them for the first time.

Wintersun is what happens when you take the best Elven Master craftsmen of Metal in the land and give them infinite skill points. Sons of Winter and Stars is what happens when take those guys and give them infinite stamina too.

Kai Hahto, one of the best drummers in the world atm, absolute beast!!!!!
The thing is that Jari Mäenpää (the mastermind behind the band and the lead vocalist) get these absolutely insane visions for music that are way way beyond most people and he spent many years crafting this masterpiece and even then he said that he had to make big compromises because lack of resources to realise his visions. All of his songs are absolutely brilliant but this one is his "magnum opus" and easily my all time favourite song. It's just musically in a whole new category to virtually all other songs I've heard. The song "Time" is also Insanely epic, but much more emotional, you should check it out. Also the live performance of the unreleased song "The Way of the Fire" is just from another universe altogether, very highly recommended, although I'm sure the finished studio version will be a lot better.
Also don't you dare miss their new album "The Forest Seasons", coming out 21th of this month. It has more massively epic and beautiful music, but with more primitive sound. Great video!
Patralgan He told that his Magnum opus is Starchild, and he makes a better, far away better version of starchild in this song.

I'd love to see Mäenpää and Hans Zimmer join forces to a most epic theatratical masterpiece of all time and space. That would be the soundtrack of Life, Universe, and Everything. A series of symphonies to end all wars. A set of vibrations to unveil the curtains of yet unknown science. A tool to for our species to harness time and light and move on to celestial eternity.
Wintersun is an experience. My favorite band for sure. Jari is in insane musician and songwriter. He used to be the singer for the band Ensiferum before forming Wintersun, too. Others have suggested listening to the song "Time"...which is great. But I also recommend a couple songs from their first album, too like "Winter Madness" or "Starchild".
I got to see Wintersun live in a very tiny venue (maybe 200 people). They played the entire album that this song was from. It was amazing. They sound just as good live as they do on their albums. When this song came on, the entire crowd sang along with their arms around each other. It was amazing.

TFS is pretty bad tbh.
That incredible man behind drum set is Kai Hahto, IMO one of the greatest heavy metal drummers of all time. Very, very technical but also musical and has that certain groove even with hight tempos like this. He also plays other genres as well, even jazz, and has studied a degree in drumming technique (called Alexander technique) in New York. Currently he plays with Nightwish - you should react to one of their songs... maybe Ghost Love Score live at Tampere 2015, Poet and the Pendulum live at Barona Areena 2015(OR any other song from their latest live release, Vehicle of Spirit for that matter).
Wintersun are one of those rare bands, they don't have a bad song!
Listen to Winter Madness and Time also by them, they're a couple of my personal favourites :D

None of the songs from The Forest Seasons are bad. In my opinion, two of them are absolutely fantastic, the other two are good, but not as good.
Wintersun is fantastic, one of the best bands i've ever heard .Each song is an experience. It's the kind of band that don't have an bad song. I can't wait for the new album !!

Wintersun are incredible! There are two more songs from this live rehearsal: "Time" (the intro is muted, but the actual song is unmuted) and "Land of Snow and Sorrow". Also I recommend listening to "Winter Madness" from the first album. There is no proper video for it but it has (in my opinion) the best metal guitar solo ever written.
And yeah, they're live as good as in the video. Jari (the Singer and Mastermind) put down the guitar live lately to conenctrate fully on vocals, so they got another guitarist in the band.

This song is near perfection, the Voice tell the story and the Music guides the way into a neverending winterparadise, the Sons of Winter and Stars.
yeah I'm not sure I've heard a better example of seamless blending of technical brilliance with emotional gravitas and intensity. Will be listening to them more for sure.

I highly recommend you listen to Whispered - Strike... Wintersun has been my favourite band ever since Winter Madness and these guys are one of very few bands that have come close to being as awesome for me.

If there was any song that I could forget and get to re-experience, it would be Sons of Winter and Stars. Jari's Magnus Opus right there, unless he can out do himself in the future. Which he has been known to do, I look forward to Time II.

Do you know that Jari, the guitarist & main composer for WIntersun, said in a recent interview that the way Time I was put together, was a huge compromise, as compared to the way it was originally planned. In other words, it was meant to be something more grandeous than what it already sounds! :O

They do this whole album live in stuido like this, if theres a song i skip on this album its this one, the rest of the album is equally as epic and amazing. best way to listen is straight through though

Great you like Finnish music, i'm from Finland ;) The drummer (Kai Hahto) is very talented Finnish musician. He's currently on Nightwish, he has been in a grindcore band (Rotten Sound) and in a doom band (Swallow The Sun) and currently he is on Nightwish like i said before. And he also plays jazz in Max On The Rox. He also gives drum lessons when he has the time and when he's in Finland and not touring.
I'll recommend you "Swallow The Sun - Cathedral Walls." Not fast metal, but more like emotional and powerful.
