- Liverwort heaths are among the few habitats in the world that are dominated and truly defined by
liverwort species. The disjunct distribution of both habitat and species makes it even more
alluring. Within the field of conservation biology, only a small group of people have adequate
expertise and knowledge of bryology to recognise the importance and uniqueness of European
hepatic heaths. It is very important to share experiences from the countries in which these
communites occur and establish a network of contacts to enable further understanding of these
communities. It is particularly important for Sweden, where they were only recently discovered
and still poorly characterised.
In part 4 Fredrik Larsson presents the hepatic heaths of Sweden. Fredrik is an ecologist and bryologist based in Jämtland, Sweden. He is exploring several new habitats for Sweden.
