  • Liverwort heaths are among the few habitats in the world that are dominated and truly defined by
liverwort species. The disjunct distribution of both habitat and species makes it even more
alluring. Within the field of conservation biology, only a small group of people have adequate
expertise and knowledge of bryology to recognise the importance and uniqueness of European
hepatic heaths. It is very important to share experiences from the countries in which these
communites occur and establish a network of contacts to enable further understanding of these
communities. It is particularly important for Sweden, where they were only recently discovered
    and still poorly characterised.
In part 1 and 2 Rory Hodd and Gus Routledge present the hepatic heaths of Ireland and Scotland, respectively.
04:30 Rory Hodd is an independent bryologist, botanist and ecologist, working primarily on conserving and monitoring the flora and habitats of Ireland. He is particularly passionate about Europe's rich oceanic bryophyte flora and oceanic montane vegetation, having completed a PhD on these topics in 2012.
29:13 Gus Routledge is a self-employed ecologist who specialises in botanical & habitat surveys in Scotland's uplands. He spends a lot of time in the forests and hills in the west of the country and has come to love the amazing bryophytes found in this part of the world.
Part 3 and 4 with John Bjarne Jordal (Norway) and Fredrik Larsson (Sweden) will be uploaded to the channel soon. Subtitles are coming.
We thank Mossornas vänner, Svenska botaniska föreningen, Moseklubben and British Bryological Society for their contributions to organising and distributing this webinar.
