We did this song as the last song on our spring concert my senior year of high school, and it was the very last song I ever sang with those choirs...it brings back amazing memories. You guys did a great job. Thank you for letting me remember a great moment in my life.
This song was a song for our Jazz choir at school, and this summer, they took a trip to memphis and sang this song acapella at the place where Martin was assinated. The feeling just brought tears to my eyes.
our choir sang this at my friend's funeral, beautiful piece. It was so hard to sing... You want to cry just hearing it let alone having to sing it at a funeral.
After reading some of the negative comments I'm appalled by you, if you've got nothing good to say, say nothing at all, Choirs should become more mainstream, you have a beautiful sound, congratulations
this sounds really amazing. my school choir is doing this song right now and only me in the bass section can reach that low C in the end, and it's sad because we're going to have to sing the optional notes.
@ilovetruffles99 There are reasons why originals get changed: because the song isn't reaching it's full potential. Eric Whitacre is commonly known for changing notes in his pieces even after their published. On a side note, it is a director's and a choir's obligation to bring their own flare to the piece being sung. Doing it exactly like the original is uninspired. That being said, despite the unoriginality of this performance, it was a wonderful performance. Kudos to you, Robed Choir.
honestly if you think this is slow you got some problems. it only adds to the passion. bono sucks with passion. these guys arent the best but they sang they're hearts out. props to the soloist for being right on there. and basses sound very rich. i'd be proud of the choir.
@DTGeek155 There's a difference between Eric Whitacre changing his own compositions, and a director re-interpreting someone else's work. Not everything has to be a re-imagining. Sometimes, it's perfectly fine to do a song they way it was written. I don't think this performance was "unoriginal" or "uninspired", I thought it was just truthful to the meaning of the piece.
He didn't use a double negative. There WAS NOT a moment that he had goosebumps doesn't make sense. Nor does There was a moment where I didn't have goosebumps. There is no other way to write it.
From what I see, all the choir seem to be white. I think that says a great deal about how much good MLK did. A white crowd with great talent paying respect in a beautiful song written by a legend who was black and pushed for racial tolerance.. I think this was part of his dream.
Nice job. Its a good recording, but if you any of you think that this is a good recording (which it is), listen to Concordia colleges version on iTunes. You will be blown away.
I know this is a high school choir and even though you guys did a wonderful job, I must say that Concordia College Choir sung this same song but in a bit of different way! I love the college choir version better. If anyone is interested in hearing Concordia version of this song, go to there website and listen to the sample or even by the CD itself! It's absolutely worth it for those who into music.
first place well deserved. the soloist could have gone a bit slower. and less pauses by the director. otherwise wow. great bass sound, wonderful female harmony...very well done
That soloist is perfect for this song. Holy moly. The whole thing was awesome. Perfect tuning. Wow.
This never gets old. Been returning to this video year after year....
I'm back, forgot I ever commented on it lol 7 years later

Great piece!! Our high school choir sang it back in 2004, and it still sounds great after all this time!!
This was absolutely wonderful. This was sung in Florida's all-state high school reading choir. So many goosebumps!

its cool..was just stating an opinion...i just feel traditional arrangements can constrict emotion and passion...

Kings Singers , does it best
would be better if it was slower though !
