I have not sewn for myself for years and years...I've bought patterns galore over the years, and I've done craft sewing, but clothing, well, I had no need for a long time...my PJs are now deteriorating, they cost too much for what little you get commercially. Thank you for inspiring me to get my stash of fabric out and make myself some new duds. I like scrub style tops, loose, airy, non-binding, and these bottoms will make some lovely PJs and I can make shorts or long bottoms, YAY!! Thank you!
Unless they're very thin beach towels, that's a difficult fabric to work with. More tips on thick fabrics here: mellysews.com/colleen-tote-bag-review-how-to-sew-thick-fabric/
My daughter is sewing this project as I'm typing this. Her first ever sewing project! Thanks for putting so much thought into preparing a beginner project like this!
THATS ALL I NEEDED TO finish for my project thank you! The only mistake I made was the buying the fabric but in the future, I’ll be choosing the correct one. I am going to teach my younger sister how to use a sowing machine and make a pair of pjs
Followed the written pattern without watching the video and they turned out amazing!!! It was the second sewing pattern I've ever attempted and I didn't have any trouble with it and my shorts turned out perfect, Thank you so much!
LOVE THESE!! Thank you for speeding through the sewing and cutting and monotonous things. If 2021 is anything like 2020, I’m going to be living in pajama bottoms all year haha
Amazing tutorial!! Made these for my daughter today. We printed the draft and stuck it together and then sewed it up🤗 it was a fun activity. Thank you so much. Love from India💕
I've been searching for so long for a beginner shorts tutorial. Your video was very thorough & easy to follow. Can't believe I actually made perfect shorts, lol.... Mahalo!
I pray you are feeling well and your body will heal quickly.. 🙏🏼 I signed up for your newsletter and figured out the pattern and made my shorts. (First time printing a pattern). They fit perfectly, no adjustments necessary 🎉 💕💃🏻 Thank you very much.
Wow! Great tutorial!! I wanted to make these for a while but was always scared it would be too hard! You explain and demonstrate so well, I was able to make a pair! Thank you!!!
Thanks to you my Mom made her first ever( in 46 years of marriage) pair of shorts from a pair she has and loves. It worked. She was amazed at how easy it was. Your video is spot on. My Mom couldn't wait to show them off to my dad and I she did a remarkable job thanks to you.
This was such a great tutorial! I got my first real sewing machine yesterday, and managed to do this project without any major problems! Thank you so much!
I’ve been needing some pajama shorts, and my kids too, so this is perfect timing for me to see this. And the tip about the card stock seam guide alone would have been worth the time watching the video. Thank you!
I love these beginner step by step tutorials. Keep them coming for more simple clothing projects. For future videos, please explain which direction to cut the fabrics out based on grain lines/selvege. Thank you so much.
If I put every single skill/explanation in every single video they would be too long. So I have terms/skills in separate videos. Grainline help here mellysews.com/what-is-fabric-grain-understanding-grainline/
Thank you SO MUCH for this wonderful video! This was my first clothing item I have ever made, and they turned out so well. I love how thorough your explanations are; they really helped me understand what I was doing as a beginner sewer.
Thanks for a great video tutorial - this cleared up some problems i'd been having when sewing shorts/pants. Well and clearly explained at a good pace!!
Thank you for posting this. I was having trouble with a written pattern as a newbie.Your directions were much clearer and helped me to finish my project. Thank you!
@@Mellysews Just finished these, absolutely in love with the product! Can't wait to use these to expand my knowledge of adding pockets as I make additional pairs! The size as laid out in the pattern was perfect for me :) Thank you kindly for spreading your sewing knowledge with the world!
I’ve been wanting to make something like this but thought it would be too difficult. Thanks for making it look fairly easy. Def going to give it a try💗
Thank you for this thorough tutorial. I appreciate the way you explained everything in detail! I love working with quilting cotton! Thanks again. God Bless you!
In case this helps anyone: for some reason my printer printed the pattern a little bigger than it should have been. The 2" x 2" test square was almost 2.5" x 2.5". The shorts came out L/XL. I'm pregnant so I was generous with my elastic, but even if I'd made the elastic shorter it could easily be considered L. For reference the widest part of my hips is about 40" and I have lots of room in these. Also, this is the very first pattern I've ever used and I'm super not confident but it really was easy! So glad I found this video and pattern!
That was the most on point perfectly explained video on sewing I’ve come across. This definitely gives me motivation to start. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I got to tell you that these were very easy to do!! I made them for my girlfriend Hopefully she loves them as much as I loved making them I’m so proud of myself 😁 Thank you !!!

Thanks for this clear and precise tutorial. I would suggest to do a straight stitch down both sides of the band after completion to hold them in place so that they won't rotate during washing and tumble drying.
Walmart and any craft store sell blank thin plastic sheets for making stencils, the edge guide would be brilliant on one of those, so that it would last much longer. I think I'm going to make myself one! Thank you!!!
I made these today and they came out great!! I want to point out that they looked really big when I first started but they fit perfectly once I was done. I used rayon and finished with French seams so I may have had a slightly larger seam allowance. Thanks so much, Melly!
My 1940s treadle sewing machine was just delivered yesterday! This pattern will be my first attempt in learning how to "treadle". Yeah! Thank you for your video ❤️ plus pattern.

Thanks for this clear and precise tutorial. I would suggest to do a straight stitch down both sides of the band after completion to hold them in place so that they won't rotate during washing and tumble drying.
That can be done, but generally if your casing is the right size for your elastic you don't get a lot of twisting.
