- The Next Gen Montero may come out in a year or less but Mitsubishi decided to give the Current generation one more facelift. The new Montero, known in other territories as the Pajero Sport, features exterior and interior upgrades and a couple of new features. In this video we'll do an in-depth review of the new Montero Sport 4x4 Black Series. We''ll drive it on the twisties, we'll drive it on the highway and we'll drive it off road. How does it compare against other PPVs like the Everest, the Fortuner, the Mu-X and the Terra and we'll see if it's still worth buying in late 2024

One thing that I've noticed that not many reviewers here in the PH mention when it comes to reviewing 4x4 Models (Especially from Mitsubishi) is about whether or not each 4x4 System is useable on sealed surfaces/high traction roads (normal roads), which even now, most 4x4 Pick-ups and PPVs (Based on what I know) are only able to use 4H (4-Wheel Drive) on unsealed surfaces like gravel roads, etc, with the only exceptions being the Montero Sport 4x4 (Including the Black Series 4x4 in this review), the Triton Athlete 4x4, since both come with Mitsubishi's SuperSelect 4WD-II System (Which gives both the ability to use Full-time 4WD on Sealed Surfaces/Normal Roads), and outside Mitsubishi, only the Ranger Raptor has a similar Capability as it has 4A, and from what I know, the current TOTL Everest (Titanium) does not have this feature, as it is exclusive to the Platinum which is not available in the PH market (correct me if I'm wrong). I feel this could be a major factor for those who are looking into getting 4x4 systems. I'm glad that you actually mentioned this though since there are other reviewers out there that don't seem to mention this, and this is actually a big positive for the Montero Sport and Triton Athlete (as it is the only one among the Triton 4x4 variants with Super Select, the rest have Easy Select), seeing as these are 2 of the only few in their entire respective classes with this type of capability😅
Also, only Super Select 4WD has a center locking differential, so this vehicle effectively has 2 diff locks (center, rear).
Talk about superb capabilities.
The capability of the Mitsubishi Montero that you have conducted a lecture on, really is just good to know. Moreover, it doesnt matter to most of the buyers of this SUV Category in the Philippines because its not something that they can use on a daily basis on the urban jungle. Lets face it, the urban jungle is where 99 percent of the buyers in the Philippines are going to use their SUV. Times are changing and the legacy automakers in the country better keep up.
@@euphegeniadoubtfire1364 That just proves my point in a way when it comes to the 4x4 systems of PPVs and Pickups in this particular segment. Again, the Montero Sport, Triton Athlete, and Ranger Raptor are the only ones that I'm aware of that have the capability of using Full-time 4WD in the urban jungle, while the rest are for the most part, limited to only being able to use their respective 4x4 systems outside the city, out on the beaten path. But I do see your point since not everyone is really looking for 4WD systems, and for the most part, the majority of buyers will probably just opt for the 4x2 models, considering these factors. But coming from a someone who's family owns a 23MY Montero Sport GT 4WD, It is very capable, and being able to use 4H on your normal roads can be reassuring, especially in rainy/slippery conditions!
@@MiggyMndza From what I know though, the usual 4x4 systems of most vehicles in the segment work by having 4H already lock the center diff, which is the main reason as to why most 4x4s aren't able to use their 4WD systems on Sealed/High Traction surfaces, with the Montero Sport, Triton Athlete, and Ranger Raptor being exceptions. The way that the 4x4 Systems work on all 3 of these is that they made 4H w/ Locked Center Diff a separate mode, and created a 4H mode which splits power between front and rear, but from what I know, it splits power 60% to the rear, 40% to the front (for the Raptor, it works similarly to an AWD system, biased to the rear, and sends power to the front if needed), but since the Center Diff remains unlocked, it doesn't lurch when you take sharp turns in this specific 4WD mode, compared to if you were to try and do it in other PPVs/Pickups in the segment. Maybe not the best explanation for how it works but that basically is the general idea of it
@@MochizukiYuusei I think you can switch to 4h when you're on tarmac on the 4x4 Everest. Because theirs a mode called slippery and when you choose that mode it goes to 4h automatically. Which is the 4h can be used on tarmac. it automatically knows what your need is and also depending on the road surface and its condition. basically, its dumb. proof. put it on normal mode it automatically switched to 2h because they know you'll use that mode for highway, traffic and ofc the urban jungle here in metro manila. And also, it knows that you don't need the 4x4 on a normal day basis, hence theirs a mode called slippery when you use it a day-to-day basis and basically the road is so slippery on the highway or in the city use that mode. It also is more fuel efficient if you use 2h on city driving. Therefore, if you want to switch it 4h you can. you can by past it. put it in normal mode and on 4h on the fly. While the 4a on the raptor is more dumb proof basically it calculates the road. you don't need to manually switch it to slippery mode if the road is slippery, it automatically detects the road if its slippery. 4A also detects if the wheels are slipping even if you use it on dry surfaces. For example, on the raptor. you're in-sport mode and the wheels detect a slippage because your too fast. it will automatically switch the 4x4 mode when you're on 4a but the expense of that is your gas millage.
Can't wait for your review in the next upcoming Mu-X.
Meron kaming 2017 Montero Sport GLS 4WD MT, awa ng Dios napaka ganda parin tumakbo hanggang ngayon,at yung Super select ll 4WD system nya ay napaka useful since my farm kami sa bundok. This particular vehicle got 2 diff lock, center & rear.
Ang swerte nyo po. Di na sya inooffer ngayon.
@SudeSudo yes po, kaya todo alaga talaga ako dito.
I've been waiting for this 4x4! First to watch it here on your channel, Sir!

I appreciate that!
Hi, jaywalkur. I noticed on your previous review over the Black series Montero that it can go 0-100 in 9.5 sec. How about this facelifted 4x4?
Great review!! Congrats all the way from Honduras, I own a Limited Montero Sport 2024🙌
I have a Gen 3 and the reason I wont upgrade is because it still uses the same 2nd-row design which cannot move front or back. The 3rd row is almost unusable for adults. Hopefully Gen 4 will fix this
True, deal breaker tlga. Sana mn lng same mechanics ng innova ang 2nd row seats
EXCELLENT review jaywalkur.
Thank you
Pinag pipilian ko talaga kong montero or fortuner. Salamat sa review.
Go for Montero..I have montero Gls-v and fortuner Q.
Great review as always, i think you forgot the number of airbags?keep it up!🎉
Thank you. Yeah thank you for pointing that out. It has 6 airbags
@@jaywalkur The Instrument Cluster of this Montero is borrowed from XForce.
Hello po sir Jaywalkur 🙂 mukhang my sun roof syang kasama po no? Once na inavail si 2025 Montero Sport. Which is gusto ko rin maexperiece sa sasakyan tulad nitong montero sport. Na ni-review nyu po na 4x4 😊
This is a very good midsize SUV but how about its sound system what brand is it?
cant wait your review Toyota Fortuner 4x4 grs 2025
Nice review 👍😊👍😊👍😊
Thank you
Gotta admit that it looks good!
The only reason that I would by a Montero over the Everest is the true AWD sustem of the montero.
I'm pretty sure the Everest also has that. But the Montero is also more reliable and the parts are more plentiful here in the philippines.
@@Jerome-iwnl From what I know the Everest Titanium does not have 4A, unlike the Raptor which does, and only the Platinum (which is not available in the PH market based on what I know) has the 4A drive mode. That makes the Montero Sport one of, if not the only one in the PPV segment that has the capability of using Full-time 4WD on High Traction/Sealed Surfaces.
🤭@@Jerome-iwnl
@@MochizukiYuusei I looked into it just now and you're totally right. I was looking at the european model (uk reviewer) and that had 4A. Sad that we dont get 4A here even in the top of the line model
@@Jerome-iwnl Yeah... It is quite unfortunate😢 The actual TOTL model of the Everest Lineup would actually be the Platinum Model as far as I know, which has a V6 and 4A in the 4x4 system, but here in the PH Market, we're stuck with the Titanium..
Does the atto though have full ADAS?
Yung gls 4x2 din po sana ng montero sir review hehe thank you Godbless
maganda to may comaparison reviews
terra or montero po sir ano magnda?
2025 with old engine 4N15 with cumbersome 3rd row folding
Is the tranny still the same Aisin model? Which is used in the LC and Lexus?
Tagal mag update ng engine. Montero used to rule the PPV segment in 2017 it was the best. Now it's 2025 and the 2025 model is basically the same with 2017 Montero only minor design and tech changes but basically still a 2017 montero. Baka sa 2026 pa yung same sa Triton darating
They should redesign na tail lights
lalabas na yong all new montero diba?
Why didn't Mitsubishi leave those chrome pieces on the front of the Montero if it's the black series? That chrome on the front doesn't look good.
Is it EPS equipped?
It has Hydraulic Steering
Nsan n ung tv katulad nung sa terra???
Hindi ba 4n16 single turbo yan?
Sa Thailand po 2024 Montero sport/Pajero sport nila 4n16 6speed 4x4 a/t.

Pati ung lower variant sir
Too bad. 4x4 MT is no longer being offered in PH. 😢
"All the chrome has been blackout" and then I see these huge chrome bits on the front bumper......🤔
I believe the full sentence was " Save for the chrome accents at the front fascia, all the chrome has been blacked out" :)
@@jaywalkur hahaha tama! Bilis lang talaga mag comment ng iba 🫤
@@jaywalkur Yes I believe that's the full sentence. Thanks for pointing that out.
Edit: oh when i read back my comment, i realize it sounded as if having a dig at you, which wasn't my intention. I meant to dig at Mitsubishi for having a black series with huge chrome bits on the front. Thanks for the reply btw.

2026 na lalabas ung bago model huhu
Black editipn pero may chrome 😅
sadly they phased out the 4x4 pure manual.. Iba talaga ang 4x4 manual sa 4x4 automatic
Or a 2025 montero

Pumangit manibela. Mas maganda yung previous
Kaya nga same
Ginawang manibela ng Triton. Hindi maganda hindi portion sa SUV ang slim light steering wheel
The interior is suck compare to Chinese designs
More durable though. I own a Chinese car and some parts are already loose after less than a year of usage. My Gen 3 is 7 years old and everything is still intact.
One fckn word. Overpriced.
What da hell is mitsubishi thinking? They have an old model.
Fugly design. Plastics cheap interior.
Well, one word. Inflation🙁
but still, I would say that the Montero Sport is still a very capable PPV in it's segment, especially if we're talking TOTL 4x4 Models thanks to Mitsubishi's Super Select 4WD-II System, and that makes it one of, if not, the only PPV in it's segment that has the capability to use 4H on Sealed/High Traction Surfaces/Roads, so this can become a very major consideration for 4x4 customers, especially those who can see themselves using this system very often on the open road, since what I've noticed with many 4x4 PPVs and Pickups, a notable negative of a lot of them is the limitations of their 4x4 Systems, only being able to use them on Unsealed/loose surfaces like gravel roads. I can attest to this as my family has owned a 23MY Montero Sport (The facelift prior to this facelift) for nearly 2 years now, and so far, we're very much satisfied and have had no issues whatsoever with it!
I guess the target market doesn't mind bc the last time I checked, there's a line already for this specific variant due to the late arrival of its stocks.
Provincial clients appreciate this the most due to its 4WD system, city buyers don't appreciate that much since it isn't as great of a mall crawler unlike the blue-oval badged SUV.
Triggered ang mga montero owners na hindi naman potential buyers. Defending that they bought the right one. Maingay na, luma pa ng design. Binago lang bumper at kulay ng mags. Cheap talaga ng interior.
@@reneogatis2019 When did I say that I was triggered or defending the montero?? What I've been trying to point out is that the Montero Sport ain't all bad, and that it still has upsides which you aren't taking into consideration. Sure, the design is not for everyone, and the interior for the majority uses scratchy plastics, and I won't even deny that, even though my family owns a TOTL 23MY Montero Sport. But I'd like to remind you that this Gen Montero is 8 YEARS old, and despite the dated interior and "questionable design", after my family has owned it for over a year, I can tell you that it is genuinely satisfied with our unit. Sure, it's old, sure it isn't the best in it's segment, but we are still happy with what we've got because it's capable, and it's built on a tried and tested platform. The Next-Generation Montero Sport is coming in a Year or Two, so if you're just gonna complain about this Facelift being a piece of garbage and this model being hella old, it's fine, can't argue with that, but all I can say is that if you're only gonna be looking at the negative side, and not even consider the positive side and positive factors of an automobile, there's something wrong with your opinion because it's missing factors, and that's coming from not just a Montero Sport Owner, but also someone who is very much open to trying out other brands. If you're will to come up with a compelling argument for me to reply to, I'm more than willing to wait🙂
And it's still a 181ps.....and the "meanest" you said?
In terms of Off-Road Capability, I would say that the Montero Sport still is one of, if not, the Meanest and Most Capable Off-Road thanks to Mitsubishi's Super-Select 4WD-II System. Even though the Montero Sport currently has one of the lowest power outputs in the class, it is by no means underpowered, trust me.
Ikarera mo jan ang gRs ni Fortuner na 224hp wala iwan parin ni Montero sa dulo lahat ng suv like terra or mux. Iwan parin sya lang ang my mivec parang VTEC ni honda pag sumipa sa 2k to 3k rpm
