I have the the 2020 Pajero Sport. It pulls my 2.5 ton caravan effortlessly and very well uphill even with cruise control. I can use the paddle shift to change down to hold trans in 7th gear for high way towing or push the shift leaver over left to lock that gear in and quickly select a lower gear while 4WDriving. Sand, Gravel, Mud and Snow selections are excelent. I love all these features. Also I have put this vehicle through some of the toughest 4WDRIVING Ihave ever done in the flinders rangers up steep rock climbs and on the beaches and sand dunes at Lincoln and Coffin bay national parks all with factory tyers and no lift or modifications. In this area the Pajero Sport shines. The down side is that it is cramped for driver leg room if your a tall person at 6ft 1 in as I am which makes long trips uncomfortable. Economy is good around town and motor and drive train are very strong. Yes a little more ground clearance would be an advantage.
I love my QF exceed, I put 33s on it and it's a mountain goat. The people commenting negatively, you aren't the target market, I suggest you stick with your Kia Sorento.

I like the way you put it, there's a trade-off but the Japs know their market and thats why their seemingly dated formula has lasted to date. Hi Paul, I bought myself a paj sport 2021. I love it! My info-tainment doesn't lag as much as yours did (maybe because my model doesn't have NAV), but I found the simplistic controls section very nice. I hate having overly complex dash and controls area. I agree it is a bit scratchy and could use a pretty up with some texture in the cabin. I bought a 5 seater for the partner, dog and I to travel around australia a bit in comfort whilst also zipping around town for business. The offroad capability really does give these expensive cars a run for their money, puts a few to shame for sure. So far, the reliablitity of this car is outstanding, I have not yet hit a single issue. It is argumentative and I'd love to turn the beeps and noises off, but they are VERY handy when you actually need them. I'd also like to mention there is a solid lag when putting your foot down which can cause some strife, but if you aren't worried about messing with your 10 year warranty, you can get that tuned out. Lastly, there is some aftermarket mods for this vehicle, but it is quite limited; the curved roof with solid rails limits the roof rack options, their are very few barworks that fit nicely and the spare wheel makes having rear cargo a non-option. This car is like a jack of all trades, a master of none, but oftentimes better than master of one. Thanks for the vid and all the tests.
Get a throttle controller mate. Idk why the manufacturers make the electronic throttle body so late to respond maybe to achieve fuel efficiency. Make sure your turbo is getting a proper flow of oil, maybe get a turbo timer and put a catch can to keep the intercooler clean. Did an intercooler clean recently and made a massive difference, makes power smoother, accelerates smoother and is quicker to respond.
I bought a GLS with the deluxe pack, in my opinion it’s the best value for money in the range, all you really miss is heated seats, digital display and front parking sensors but outside that it’s really the same car. I’ve thrown the TJM book at ours to upgrade the woeful factory suspension and put on a bull bar and snorkel. My dad and father in law both have the new d-max and bt50 respectively, and they are identical with power output to the Pajero Sport. We really umm’d and ahh’d about this or the mu-x and landed on this mainly for the shorter delivery timeframe, near 7k cheaper price tag and 10 year warranty/ capped price servicing. Day to day it’s a good car, showing it’s age a bit, the engine is a noisy old lass but generally its comfy and very easy to drive on the road, tackles nearly anything off road with ease and does exactly what it says it will in the brochure. Downsides are, the boot is deceptively small, put a pram and dog crate in the boot and it’s nearly all gone, and the second row leg room isn’t great for adults but is excellent for two kids seats. The only other thing is the gearbox is a bit fussy and I find it drops all the way to 7th or 8th quickly at relatively low speeds (60 - 80km/h) (obviously some sort of fuel saving ECU programming) but driving with the paddle shifters is great and definitely a must off road. We’re generally happy with it and plan on keeping it for some time yet. Looking forward to seeing the next gen hopefully next year!
Took delivery of a white GSR in April last year. Did 1500KM real quick to get the first complimentary service done. In May did 6900kms in the NT with 3 other couple's towing a 1600kg forward fold camper. Note that this is my first Toorak Tractor. Vf2 Sv6 got sold. Overtook triples ok and at 130km per hour it drove ok. At one stage my dash showed average speed of 121 while I was at 130. Didn't find a single road that had sine wave roads. Main reason I bought it is because of the superior 4wd system compared to Fortuner and MUX. Prado was out of the question due to ridiculous price. It has the safety technology I need and is very comfortable. Yes at the end of it's build period but all the bugs have been fixed because of this. My mate waited 13 months for his higher tec MUX and it mirrors don't fold in. Go figure.
The awd is a no brainer plus it's superior off road to all in it's class. Prado is overrated honestly. It's pretty damn good off road and it tows well because it's heavy but that's about it. Interior nothing special, ride nothing special and reliability nothing special.
On the hill climb first time, having the rear diff lock active was the issue. That disables all traction control, hence the front wheels didn't have any control. Rear diff lock is best for offset holes and bigger ruts, but an even track hill like that is best and easily climbed with no rear diff lock active and just letting the traction control do it's thing (especially in Rock mode where wheel slip is most limited).
Appreciate your view I've just bought the Exceed and I'm relying on these guys to help me out. Think I should just read comments for reliable help. Thanks again.
That's good news as I have ordered the GLX which doesn't have rear diff lock. I won't be doing real off roading, but I will be towing a light caravan, about 1 tonne. Reversing on to slippery sites with the van should be fine without the diff lock. I currently have a Ford XR6, which has loads of power for the highway, but spins rear wheels on wet grass.
And furthermore, with a GLX - with no rear diff lock available, it would have been good to run the hill test with and without rear diff lock to compare the performance with and without.
The "Sport" badge is for the school run sport challenge that these vehicles compete in every day.. can you enter a school zone at 110km/h, stop in the bus zone to let 5 kids out, do a U-turn over double lines in front of the pedestrian crossing nearly taking out the lollipop man, then take off foot to the floor.... without getting booked police. Winner gets to Dan Murphys at opening time to pickup the first wine sale for the day.
Interesting to hear your thoughts. I’ve got a 2022 GLS model. I absolutely love it. Around the city, on long highway trips it’s comfortable & good on fuel driven correctly. IT’s capability off road I think is really good. I’ve done lots of bush touring, rock climbing & river crossings. Only thing I’ve done is add a snorkel for piece of mind. I’m really happy with the car. I did lots of research & tested many others cars before I decided & the Pajero Sport won me hands down.
@@lengerer I've gotten down to 6.3 on the highway if you stick to 100 and draft behind cars(approx 100km trip). Combined fuel econ with school drop offs is 9-10 on the highway average is around 7-8
I bought a Pajero Sport GSR. It’s an awesome machine! Real world 4WD capabilities and top value compared to its competitors dollar for dollar. The design doesn’t hurt it looks great!
Interior is very decent comparing to MUX, Fortuner and let say PRADO, infotainment is Ok and not laggy, different digital displays not even shown, camera is OK in real life
Ours is going great at 2 years, 30,000km. I find it really comfortable on gravel roads at 60 or 80km/h, and it never struggles on any hills on the freeway at 110km/h. But where it really comes into its own its having full-time 4H and being able to dip into low range when towing in slippery/muddy conditions.
I love the continuous comparison to the Ford Everest… The Pajero Sport may not be that great at everything but at least it’s a lot more likely to get to its destination without needing a tow truck lol
@@JasonDavide I’m jealous mate. Either they have had a real easy life or you must have some unreal luck. Or maybe mine don’t like being over serviced lol Get it doing some continuous hard work (which ford claim the Ranger/Everest are better than every other mid-sizes Ute/wagon at doing) and the Ranger and Everest’s floors will surface quick smart
On the hill it would have done better without the rear diff lock, as when engaged it disables the front traction control. I find the traction control really impressive and never used the rear diff lock the drive modes make a massive difference. I Was on a muddy hill the other day wouldn't go up in rock mode but flew up in mud and snow !
Can you please test drive a Toyota Fortuner Crusade on this track? Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is worth the money. You still get a very good OFF-ROAD capable 7 seater wagon. The Off-Road Traction control system is good. Price tag is very good. Reliability is good. You can drive the wagon in 4H on sealed surfaces. Why pay a bigger price tag in the competition when you can have the same features with the Pajero Sport. What else would a working class family need for city, school and weekend runs? Yes, the Pajero Sport misses out on some “FANCY” features and the engine might be a little bit less powerful than the rest of the competition. But the Pajero Sport still gets the job done, pretty well. The price tag, engine and gearbox reliability, cabin comfort and space should put this back on the shopping list.
I have 2022 GSR, pearl white. Use it for around town/every day use. Have had no issues with overtaking/handling/power. Infotainment does suck a bit, but I use android auto most of the time. He is right about camera quality, but it works. Great family car. He forgot to mention the 10 year warranty which is a huge plus. Value is key. He should have showed the prices of the highest end Everest and Toyota Fortuner. Overall excellent review!
What's the fastest you've ever done in it? Also I think the problem with Paul is that he floors it and I have a Triton 4d56 and it's slower when I floor it vs 75% throttle input. Also have a prado 1kz and don't floor it either because it's max power is 3000rpm.
10 year warranty is useless when you only get 5 years, additional 5 but you have to take it back to the dealer.. which they will sting you far more in the long run and incompetence of mechanical services.. warranty also is very selective and most dealerships will use any loophole to not cover the fault under warranty
@@anthonyramdin1037 he also uses the brake and builds up rev's which takes away power as Mitsubishi's have a safety feature of disabling the throttle if the brake and throttle are engaged at the same time.
I bought Pajero sport exceed and it is beautiful SUV and only thing is that I felt lag when you start accelerating but I fix that problem with ultimate 9 EVC throttle controller device which is easy to fix and u ll feel that car has more power with turbo … 😊
This car has the best 4x4 system in its class, very quite ride at cruising speed on the freeway and fuel efficiency is up there with the best in class considering the size of the vehicle. I like that the 4x4 mode can be selected even on sealed surfaces. This car is simple with no unnecessary technology because it is built to last. The suspension is soft tuned for more comfort than handling which is ok considering this car is not a Ferrari. Surprisingly the pajero sport excellent 8 speed auto box is sourced from Toyota owned Aisin, sharing it with the Lexus LX570 and Land Cruiser 5.7L, which are a class above the fortuner. Concerning value for money in the class, theres no better vehicle than the Pajero-Sport. The car has some minor shortcomings though as it could do with a physical volume knob, a more softer steering, standard 360 degree view camera across the range and a push button rear seat folding mechanism. Anyone looking to buy a rugged ladder frame suv should atleast test drive the Pajero-Sport.
Nice review. Can't believe you didn't mention the massive column mounted shift paddles! Those actually feel similar to the ones on the R35 GTR. All the sporty Audi's, BMWs, Hyundai n cars, stingers etc desperately need something like that, but it's mounted to an full size Mitsubishi suv lol
Japanese Mitsubishi, Korean KIA , China Haval , American Ford, British Land Rover, Germany Mercedes benz, Sweden Volvo, France Renault, only Mitsubishi pajero evolution holding the Guinness world record as king of the champion in rally racing onroad and offroad
2021 with the 3.0 Petrol engine in Mexico, love the 4x4 system and the plush ride. Not a fan of the rear boot capacity, but nothing that a roof top carrier solved my problem
Yep my screen was dark just needed the brightness turned up all good afterwards plus the hill decent control speed can be changed is adjustable on the steering wheel
Will get my PS next week. I have done a lot of research before I order one. I love its exterior and reliability. The only two points I am not satisfied are infotainment and steering wheel. With Carplay/Android Auto, the infotainment is acceptable. The steering wheel is really heavy. For the power output, it is fine for me as it is just a family SUV with a good off-road capability, not a hot hatch. It seems that PS has a very good resale value which is good for us.
I have a 2024 model and I have my phone running through the head unit which I have in any of my previous vehicles. The google maps are shown on screen and as I have a music library in my phone I just use that as well. The radio is just like any other vehicle. The transmission is strong and not a cvt. The engine is not as powerful as some other competitors but still propels the sport along as briskly as practible. The chassis is tuned for comfort but is very predictable in the corners. A stiffer sway bar front and rear with some heavier springs would sharpen the handling a lot. I run 46psi front and 42psi rear tyre pressures and have found it responds a bit better on turn in and direction changes. I'm happy with it and having had an MR triton it was a known driveline and no surprises. I enjoy driving it and find it great on long distances.
The plastic dashboard is actually a good thing. When do you feel the softness of the dashboard? Never. When we put a dash mat in our falcon which is really soft. Softest dash I’ve ever felt, the people who put it in glued it down and now that I took it off, the glue won’t come off and has left yellow marks in the black leather. The spot I tried getting it off on just tore. So from now on I’m gonna make sure that my dashes are plastic
Excellent video, very informative. Really appreciate it. I’m about to purchase the 2022 model and now you put me off don’t know what to do but highly appreciated.
Lol still buy it. Everest is the best but unreliable. Fortuner is average at best. Mux has great interior and drive line but not so good off road. Paj is the best all rounded and is cheaper. If you are worried about power just get a tune and you'll be fine.
not sure if hill decent kicked in as rear diff lock still stayed activated. It's one thing that annoys me a little with this system, changing the modes take a little longer to kick in and in some case I have to drive few yards ahead for modes to lock in. One good thing I found that a decent set of All terrain tyres can really help. I got the Falken wildpeak AT3W and its a beast of gripper and made heaps of difference as well for me. But overall love this car, been a good journey, safer on the road , its comfortable and makes you feel in total control. The engine can definitely use a little more of a punch for sure as you said.
For a family vehicle and regular camping trips with a camper trailer, it is all you need. If it’s speed you want then buy a Bugatti but if is a caravan you want to tow then buy a V8 landcruiser 300.
Our South African spec top of the range version doesn't have 360 degree camera and lumbar support, and cooling and heating for the seats. It's difficult to park such a large vehicle without 360 cameras. And cooling seats and lumbar support are needed for long drives. Also can't quite get the headlights focused well, compared to my old Rav4 with LED headlights. And I got a rattle, which I think is the dashboard itself. That's all my issue's with vehicle. Overall the value for money makes it a good buy in South Africa. And it is less of a targeted vehicle by criminals.
Just some information on overtaking from somebody that routinely overtakes car/caravan combos in road trains. There is an art to overtaking in unresponsive vehicles. You need to anticipate when theres a straight bit of road or overtaking opportunity coming up, drop back off the car in front and use that distance to gain speed before you reach the car again so that your speed difference is considerable when you move into the oncoming lane and your exposure time is short. Power really not required, just good driving.
I think it is the smallest in the range and although not as much punch as others it is sufficient to enter a motorway or overtake comfortably. If you are just looking to tow a camper trailer it will do it easy. 👍 The hard surface 4WD option is ridiculously good but surely it’s competitors will jump in that technology.
I can confirm that this is a great car for school runs, apart from that if you are looking for an off-road vehicle it's pretty lackluster. Also had 2 stuck valves in 1 year under 80k, gearbox is shiiiite and the panels are thinner than rolling papers.
I always get comments like "this isn't a racing car, it does what it's supposed to do" when I say a car is slow; slow cars are not safe. How is Mitsubishi happy with a car that takes 10 seconds from 80 to 120??
Farewell to the quality of Mitsubishi, which I have experienced myself a long time ago and until now... The reason is that Renault and Nissan have dominated it
I had one of these, which we purchased when it launched 7 or so years ago. At the time, the value proposition for equipment, technology and overall value for money was really really good. Since then, the price has increased, but the value proposition has stayed pretty stationary. Now it's starting to look like the kind of car the lancer was before it was discontinued. Reliable, but boring.
G day Paul, love the videos, keep them up. Would it be possible to do windscreen wiper and washer test? Multiple vehicles differ in this and maybe a head light review. Obviously night time would be hard but interesting. Cheers
Which of the Pajero Sport, MUX or Fortuner would be the most comfortable for longer (600 km in a day) journeys? Or is it worth it to pay more for the Prado?
Hi Bernard, Toyotas have the best engines no doubt. I think your best bet will be the toyota fortuner, but if your willing to pay a bit extra the prado is worth it's money and has a better resale value than a fortuner and provide you way more comfort on and off road.
Very nice, but unreasonably expensive. Even a used previous model of low mileage is almost as expensive, but that is the state of the domestic market at present. That doesn't mean it is not a scam.
One of the useful ideas for your programs... I advise you to measure the base of the car from the road surface by placing an object of known height so that when the car passes over it. It is possible to know the extent of his contact with her
Your comments on the camera being so dull and not so clear can easily be fixed by changing the display settings in the touch screen menu. Factory default is just set to low.
I'm Trading from a 2008 Pajero Exceed 4WD Petrol. (Towing getting 23/100kms) Don't do 4WD any more. So what do you think about the 2WD model for towing a Jayco 17ft. Weight 1900kg
I know its needs a bit more punch under the hood... Still, I think it's a great car... very capable. Also, I like the idea of less tec... After Ford's drama over the past few weeks.

about the only thing shit with this car is the horn lol. no offence but these reviews make every car sound pretty bad, like i got put off by every single model of the same vehicle type because of these reviews. after the driving the 2022 PS i came back a week later and bought the black GSR in the display room, can't fault it. it'll go pretty much anywhere you want it to with ease and it'll be comfortable whilst doing it. i have 2 bulging discs in my lower back and can do an 8hr drive with fishing stops along the way, with minimal pain that only comes on in the last hour or two of the trip. my last two cars were a 2003 falcon and a 2003 323 hatch, comparing them to thie PS is stupid but the PS is bliss in comparison. all the safety features work really well, the ACC is awesome and very fuel efficient, the car is comfortable and easy to drive, i find the cameras are totally fine, i can see everything and i love having them. if i could afford a prado i probably would have bought one but at the same time, it really is just as good when it comes to my lifestyle and the price difference is a no brainer. after putting 11,500km i still love it and definitely suggest test driving one if you're in the market. there's a really good community group on facebook and i've actually seen less big issues on that page than the Prado group i'm in. the only bad thing about this vehicle is the intercooler hoses failing at random intervals, there seems to be no minimum life in them and just about everyone upgrades to silicone hoses to avoid problems. i've seen the hoses fail at 13,000km and some didn't fail til well over 100,000km. $300 on top of the price of the car is nothing for a very capable, safe, and comfortable 4x4. once you get used to the way the throttle works the gearbox works quite smooth, and you can actually get a fair amount of control over when it changes using your right foot
Yeah pass at around $68K DA. Id rather pick up a 2020 GLS with low Ks for around $50K, chuck in some Bilsteins/Dobinsons, some Wildpeak AT3 tires and get a ECU tune...still be 10K ahead for any other extras you might want.
The basic interior and infotainment unit are a tell tail I'd suggest, a tell tail that it is form a time when things where built to last. So take your pick, latest tech, or durable vehicle. The camera is however a dismal failure, plenty of room for improvement there.
White Diamond is the Pearl White & the black is just like the black all new Hyundai Santa Fe already down under should come ro South Africa before the end of this year .
You seem to be really savvy with all the controls on the car but couldn’t adjust the rear camera brightness in settings, instead bagging it as useless. I have same car and camera is clear and bright
I saw an off-road review between the Pajero Sport, D-Max and Everest. The Everest was getting 20L/100K and the other two were 9-10L/100K. With the cameras, there's no protective film on them?
The issue is that yes, it is dated and the engine, interior and infotainment needs an upgrade. Keep in mind in other markets such as Asia, this car in exceed trim comes with a sunroof and wireless phone charger. Why do we tolerate paying good money for a product that has features deleted?

The "Sport" badge is for the school run sport challenge that these vehicles compete in every day.. can you enter a school zone at 110km/h, stop in the bus zone to let 5 kids out, do a U-turn over double lines in front of the pedestrian crossing nearly taking out the lollipop man, then take off foot to the floor.... without getting booked police.
The engine is terrible. 11 litres per 100km is not good on fuel, that’s actually really bad. And sloooooow.

The design doesn’t hurt it looks great!
I've absolutely been enjoying the test track you use for a while now. Got the driving and performance aspect of your reviews spot on with that!
Interior is very decent comparing to MUX, Fortuner and let say PRADO, infotainment is Ok and not laggy, different digital displays not even shown, camera is OK in real life
It sucks in terms of overall cabin space tho. Which is not surprising given its smaller dimensions.
I have one and im buying another one.. Good on fuel.. Good to tow... and cheaper than alot of the other 4wds... I would recommend them
Paul the man!
Just sold one of these. Fantastic all rounder. Does what it says on the box.
Nice to see you in SA 😉
This is a great car. Ford is just dramatic and for the competition with your mates. But for a car that actually does the work, this is it.
I love the continuous comparison to the Ford Everest… The Pajero Sport may not be that great at everything but at least it’s a lot more likely to get to its destination without needing a tow truck lol

@@anthonyramdin1037 I've gone in excess of 130 km/h. Did the job.
10 year warranty is useless when you only get 5 years, additional 5 but you have to take it back to the dealer.. which they will sting you far more in the long run and incompetence of mechanical services.. warranty also is very selective and most dealerships will use any loophole to not cover the fault under warranty

They’re literally straight out of the Evo. They’re even magnesium

How is it holding up so far please?
@@frankmlish2679 It is really slow even compared with our old Cruze, this is the only point we are not quite satisfied.
Great review as always Paul. Looking forward to your in-depth drive of the recently released GWM Tank 300!

Hi Paul, great review as always. Could you please review the turbo Outback. Thanks
not sure if hill decent kicked in as rear diff lock still stayed activated.
+1 for those ATW3 tyres 👌
Better value for money and reliability compared to the competition. Also, has a better 4WD system.

Outlander 22 was a good leap forward. See lots of them in Canada now hope Mitsubishi back on track
Paul, you said there was a link in the description to the 4wd mega test you have just done. I can't see it?

Hi, Paul!!!
Do you have info on the next gen Pajero Sport??
about the only thing shit with this car is the horn lol. no offence but these reviews make every car sound pretty bad, like i got put off by every single model of the same vehicle type because of these reviews. after the driving the 2022 PS i came back a week later and bought the black GSR in the display room, can't fault it. it'll go pretty much anywhere you want it to with ease and it'll be comfortable whilst doing it. i have 2 bulging discs in my lower back and can do an 8hr drive with fishing stops along the way, with minimal pain that only comes on in the last hour or two of the trip. my last two cars were a 2003 falcon and a 2003 323 hatch, comparing them to thie PS is stupid but the PS is bliss in comparison. all the safety features work really well, the ACC is awesome and very fuel efficient, the car is comfortable and easy to drive, i find the cameras are totally fine, i can see everything and i love having them. if i could afford a prado i probably would have bought one but at the same time, it really is just as good when it comes to my lifestyle and the price difference is a no brainer. after putting 11,500km i still love it and definitely suggest test driving one if you're in the market. there's a really good community group on facebook and i've actually seen less big issues on that page than the Prado group i'm in. the only bad thing about this vehicle is the intercooler hoses failing at random intervals, there seems to be no minimum life in them and just about everyone upgrades to silicone hoses to avoid problems. i've seen the hoses fail at 13,000km and some didn't fail til well over 100,000km. $300 on top of the price of the car is nothing for a very capable, safe, and comfortable 4x4. once you get used to the way the throttle works the gearbox works quite smooth, and you can actually get a fair amount of control over when it changes using your right foot
When can we expect to see your review on the new Tank 300?
