Many modern cities are introducing light rails and trams. Trams should have their own section and right of way except intersections. That is true. But why not run trams in these routes? Imagine what modern tram set with automatic doors would look like in streets of Kolkata. Trams should operate in PPP model in routes that are feasible.
Even though I don't live in Kolkata, I developed a deep nostalgia connected with trams everytime I make a visit Kolkata. Trams are identity of Kolkata and there are many Bengali folk songs (especially the one sung by Shreya Ghoshal) dedicated to Kolkata's trams.
Trams should be reinstated in all the routes in Kolkata !!
All the trams should be modernised as per European countries ( Germany, Switzerland etc ) !!
So that it will continue the heritage with upgradation and will become a tourist attractions also !!

Heritage TRAMS ARE PRIDE OF BENGAL .It should not be allowed to due. I always try to travel by Tram when I visit Calcutta twice a year. Trams can be introduced in the outcarts of Calcutta like Burdwan,Kharagpur,Malda etc because it is cheap,safe & pollution free.Long live Calcutta TRAMS.
I also love tram ❤ but bike accident happened due to tram line is not a excuse. 😢 so many bikes got slipped on tram line
Some old routes should be reopened,or trolleybus service should be introduced.

one of the best public transport system built by the British empire. The India is a can't do country. Such systems have to build in all cities like modern european cities. Shame on Governments (any)
about 4000 buses are gonna complete 15 years by July....already it's effects are being seen especially in New Town area.......what then???? Trams are easier to build than metros and can carry more passengers it can be easily installed in New Town because of huge wide roads till airport and maybe more till Barasat. Buses are reducing.
Dada My opinion is To save our trams if there is no possibility to run in kolkata anymore or to further revive again. Then can't it been shifted to other cities outside kolkata or the cities which surrounds kolkata. Won't it be a good choice to run trams in cities like Belgharia,Barrackpore,Sodpur Agarpara, Birati, Madhyamgram. Barasat etc. etc.

By the fact, we have the largest Museum, Railway Station and largest funding to Airport Authority of India and the one of most important trade routes.

@@debanjoy_how yes you are right, you the largest museum in the world, where we have the Howrah bridge, Victoria memorial, and even the post office outside my house is also from the british colonial times. Instead, we could also have focused on expanding the metro rail(the first metro network of India) by taking the metro rail development under our authority(part of state govt initiative) instead of making this a central govt liability, but even now as of today, even Mumbai metro which started in 2014, has or is going to have the bigger metro network than us. The only thing that saved Kolkata from getting older was economic development in the form of Newtown and Salt-lake, two of the important economic hubs of Kolkata.

There was a time when Calcutta was the London of Asia....LITERALLY. It was capital of British occupied India and was a HUUGEEE business and industrial heartbeat for India and Asia. Thats the reason why it always had state of the art public facilities. There was a time when they used to run Buses from London to Kolkata, which goes to show the city's importance to the world economy. Needless to say, Kolkata today completely ruined mostly due to bad government policy.....
They should make dedicated shared bus/tram/police+ambulance+emergency lanes to make public transit faster. And trams should be used to connect suburban areas to connect to city center. No one builds trams in city center. Also, the existing trams should be upgraded. There are some really fancy looking trams in EU. With better looking trams, commuters would also be more interested in using them. Fast tram serices should be there in rush hours to get people from home to office from 8-10 and back home from 5-7.
With just a few initiatives, and some investments, the city could get relief from pollution, road congestion and revive it's previous glory......but nooooo, all the politicians are just too busy shoving money to their own pockets

I dont know why Kolkata metro city is not expanding like Delhi NCR and Mumbai-Navi Mumbai, Bangalore. Kolkata deserves a place like Delhi and Mumbai. Kolkata city can be develop and build like Bangkok, Singapore, and Hong Kong. This city badly needs an expansion including Greater Kolkata metropolitan region. Even UP CM Yogi has planned to develop Lucknow city like Lucknow SCR or state capital region including Kanpore and its neighbourhood villages encroachment.
Just save heritages what else i can say ....reduce road traffics .......i see chaotic in roads .....people move here and there road ramp i think needed for organizate movement

if government wants to use it for tourism purpose and it must have a separate section and away from public roads but i highly doubt it will be beneficial cause metro is doing super well in kolkata and tram will never be able to compete with metro it just a reality.

There should be only 1 tram line with modern rakes for showpiece, otherwise I want both handpulling rickshaw and tram ban in Kolkata . Streets in Kolkata already very narrow compared to other big cities. It creat Chaos, poor rakes and hand pull rickshaw shows our povery prone mindset nothing else
