Thank you, Helen! This is a lovely kingfisher painting. So appreciate the outlines you make available and your detailed instructions. I hope you do more birds. Perhaps a series?
Oh Helen!! He is ADORABLE!!! I just LOVE birds SO MUCH!! You've done a marvellous job, as always! Thank-you for sharing this beautiful artwork with us! 👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@helencampbell Well I have to be known as Dr. Bee for now, as I'm in the middle of juggling two very different careers, plus I'm raising my adorable little children ❤️❤️❤️ Just grateful to have my wonderful husband helping me through it all ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ So many people can't fathom the concept of two very different careers (especially not concurrently).. but I really do love science and art in equal measure. I'm struggling a bit because I am refusing to let go of one or the other! I just can't.. so I use my actual name for my science-based career, and my other name for the art-based career. I don't know if it's the right thing to do, but it's all I can do right now. I fear that my science-based peers wouldn't understand my passion for art.. so for now, I'm just hiding it from them 🤣🤣 I can't run away from art any longer, because it has just been at the core of who I am, as far back as I can remember.. hopefully my art peers understand my passion for science, too ❤️❤️❤️
Oh I’m sure they will understand and it’s so important that you do what’s right for you. Life has a way of balancing things out for us. Always follow your heart xxxx
The details you created really make this bird look so real. I think it's a bit advanced for my watercolor skill but with your breakdown of step by step in the tutorial I could tackle it. It's a lovely painting!
Love kingfishers, lovely painting Rae. I’m at home and sick so unable to do much. So going to binge watch your videos. Thank you 😊 then when I improve, I’ll be downloading the reference photos
This is by far my very favorite channel! I’ve learned so much especially hoo avoid getting flat colors. It was your videos that brought me back to watercolor after a bad leg fracture that took away my desire and ability to paint. I also love your fb page and can’t wait to be able to join your patreon. Thx so much! ❤️
I love still life paintings but I prefer to use ink, personally, and especially sepia ink - to give the piece an old-world, vintage look. But honestly your channel has inspired me to do more with watercolours, and try to venture away from my monochrome style a bit! Thank-you 🤗🤗
It’s easy to overwork watercolour. The secret is to work in layers of colour very watery, and build up colour that way rather than add too thick a colour too quickly
@@shirleybell3350 Hi Shirley, it’s all about practice I promise you. And with watercolour it’s important that you apply watery layers to begin with otherwise it can turn muddy and therefore overworked.
@@helencampbell Hi Helen...I've enjoyed your videos and thank you for sharing your skills with us. I have a question about 'overworking'. I hear a lot of artists use the term, but I don't understand what it means, exactly. How do you tell if something is overworked...or about to be? I've also heard some say it's about having too many details in a watercolor, yet I've seen beautiful watercolor art with a ton of detail! Hope you can help me better understand what I should avoid. Thanks!
Great video I'm looking forward to trying to paint this , this is a bit of a longshot but I Don't suppose you have a link to the pic of the kingfisher ?it would be great to have that as a reference please 🙏
Hi. I do have the photo but I can’t post it here. I’m afraid. Which is why we have all the references over on our Facebook group. It won’t allow me to post it in the comments. All our later videos, by which I mean newer, have them at the end of the video, but I have only started doing this, in the last few months
I only like Arches cold Pressed. Not keen on the hot pressed. I think it’s the way I paint lol. I’ve a video launching in a few weeks where I paint the same three things on three different papers and explain how each paper reacts. You may find it interesting

Thank you Anna. There is a toucan if that helps x
Just a perfect little guy, well done Rae.❤
Thank you. I’ve another bird launching in a few weeks so keep an eye out x
I just painted this little bird and love how it turned out! Thanks so much for providing us with such wonderful tutorials to follow!
Gorgeous
Thank you very much
Thank you for another beautiful tutorial. I usually paint florals but this has me inspired to try my hand at birds.
Thank you Peggy. It’s lovely to paint and the technique is the same. Give it a go and let me know how you get on

Oh Hanna that’s so lovely of you to say. Made my day xxxx

I love painting portraits, but still trying to get to grips with watercolors, I usually overwork them.

Could I add white gouache to blue watercolour to get the same effect for the highlights?
Yes but add a lot of water

@@helencampbell thank you so much for the reply. I painted it last night by following your video I'm really happy with how it turned out.
Brilliant. I’d love to see it
How do I see the line drawing of this? On my phone. Ty
The line drawings are on the Facebook group. Link in description
By the way: after trying out so many different papers, arches is my favorite!

Tried to join your Facebook and was unable to do so…
Hi Linda. What was the problem please? We do have filters on asking to answer questions and group rules. If you agreed then it should be ok
