I honestly cant believe Captain America: Civil War came out 6 years ago. It's in my top 10 favorite MCU films. Been looking forward to the Infinity War Honest Reviews. Was team Cap from the get go. These Captain America films have honestly changed my life. Rest in power Chadwick Boseman.
Ant-man did have some of the best moments in this movie, like when he goes into Iron-man's suit: Tony: Who's speaking? Scott: It's your conscience, we don't talk a lot these days.
Oh, yeah. I've waited a long time for this. Always loved your Honest Reviews the most. Yes, it is cathartic to rant about bad movies and make fun of them, but to hear someone as passionate about something as you are about superheroes talking about why they love something just feels so wholesome and nice. Also love your insights and little details, so it's always a pleasure for me to hear you talk about things you like and why. Still prefer Winter Soldier myself, as I find it tighter and more intense. But I get why some people prefer Civil War and its bigger scale and spectacle, while still giving the characters their due. Great review, great to see you're still doing this. Hope you're doing well.
So happy that this video dropped! I've been excited since the day it was announced. And yes, if it wasn't for Zemo, you could make the argument that the whole team was there at Wakanda to successfully stop Thanos... so yeah, definitely he was the most affective antagonist.
I miss when people used to joke that Captain America Civil War was alternately called “Avengers 2.9 Birth By Unchained Memories Days/2 Coded Union X Dream Final Chapter Prologue and Knuckles featuring Dante from Devil May Cry”
I was so excited for Infinity War Journal when I discovered this channel about under half a decade ago and I thought it'll never happen yet here it is the first episode but it comes out when I'm sleeping due to my timezone. At least I'm free tomorrow to watch this.
I really liked Civil War. And I thought they did a good job keeping the two sides of the argument well balanced and reasonable, but with one huge flaw. GENERAL ROSS! They literally have one of the villains from a previous MCU film on one side of the debate!
Personally I find this film to be a bigger accomplishment than most of the other MCU films. The had 12 different heroes, give each one an appropriate amount of screen time, everyone jelled while kept the focus on Cap, introduced Black Panther well, and on top of that included one of the best action scenes in the entire MCU. I do also like a couple bits like adapting red wing into a drone
Major props to Erod for doing a 15 minute review on Civil War and still covering it so well. Probably because he wanted to focus on what was most important and worth celebrating and not dive too much into the supporting cast or a lot of the other plots as yeah you easily could go on for much longer on this movie but I think he nailed all the most important talking points; why this works more then the comic because you care about the characters (as Linkara pointed out both Iron Man AND Captain America aren't likeable in the Civil War comic which.... yeah makes the drama a lot less compelling so I don't get the people who say the comic is better. The comic has more going on and more characters sure but at the end of the day if you hate the primary leaders of both side and it's a story based on tough decisions with no easy answers that has a definite actual answer that feels like a failure); why Zemo is such a great more subdued villain (and thankfully that wasn't lost in other works), how this wasn't cluttered and still focused on the right characters, all of the awesome action scenes and writing and what makes this also my favorite MCU movie (a lot of the other big event movies are really close like Infinity War/Endgame and even No Way Home but all of the balancing acts this one do are just right and fully work on me) and heck getting even to work in all the stuff from the other honest reviews from favorite character/scene/line, the after credits (no BALS this time though heh heh) and yeah even the Stan Lee cameos as I guess that is going to end once we get to Endgame but hey let's enjoy the ride until we get there. And I do appreciate Erod pointing out how that Cap was originally seen as a "lesser franchise" after his first debut (not the worst as Hulk did make less money plus had issues with Universal but yeah Iron man was clear Number one and the first Thor did make more money and seemed like that would be the second solo main franchise) and how that changed after Winter Soldier (I should also note that Robert Downy Jr. was originally only suppose to cameo in Cap 3 and not have a major starring role when Downy Jr. was planning on leaving the role for the most part after Age of Ultron but changed his mind and it was reworked thank god to be more about both of them which yeah makes things way more interesting) so yeah everything was covered... except I do with Eric mentioned this is the first overall good comic book movie TRILOGY that's ever came out. Where stuff like Sam Raimi's Spider Man, Christopher Nolan's Batman and heck even the Iron man movies had more flaws overall this was perfect 10s across the board but eh otherwise good stuff and can't wait for the Doctor Strange honest review... do wonder if we're getting one on Spider man Homecoming/Far From Home but still great to finally see this out.
Also should be pointed out the big reason that got Civil War off the ground was that though it was a project the Russos wanted to make it wasn't something Feige was totally onboard with... until finding out that the DCEU was going ahead with a Batman v Superman movie as their SECOND film. Seeing the competition was trying for something like that made him realize "okay we put in the work to actually make something like that work and we need to show them how it's done" which got that the go ahead which was especially ironic since for awhile DC actually put Batman v Superman in the same release slot given to this movie. And if you look back at 2014 a lot of people at the time thought that was a death sentence for THIS movie and that BvS would totally cream this movie. Seriously even the guy from Cinema Sins made a video about that ruclips.net/video/DOLQTfKVV4I/видео.html Which is so hilariou in hindsight because BvS wound up having to chicken out and change the date and obviously failed in every way possible compared to Civil War. Finanically, critically, through the fans. Heck except for super Snyder fanboys I think EVERYONE who has seen the two movies agrees Civil War is better then Dawn of Justice. Because it is and seriously shows how much DC fumbled the ball and how on top of it Marvel is.
Great video! I loved this film so much! I’ve seen it four times in theaters! The only MCU film I’ve ever done for. Team Captain America all the way! Such a great film!
As "Overly Sarcastic Productions" excellently explains in their "Trope Talk: Paragons" video, There's a reason the movie is "Captain America 3" and not just "Avengers 2.5"; The conflict of the movie entirely revolves around Steve Roger's decisions and actions because he's the charismatic paragon leader who will uncompromisingly fight for what he believes is right. Everyone who's on his side is on his side because he's Captain America and they have faith in what he's doing is the right thing. Everyone against him is against him because they know Steve THINKS he's in the right and will never give up. Trying to convince him otherwise would be futile so they have no choice but to try and subdue him by force. Captain America: "Stark tell you anything else?" Spider-Man: "That you're wrong. You think you're right. That makes you dangerous." Captain America: "Guess he had a point."
This movie is a great exemple of how adaptation can be different and still be better than the source material. Some people complain about this film (and MCU movies, specially nowadays) saying they don't follow the comics accurately but is not the case. They are able to make good stories by focusing in what made the stories they adapting so important and interest. In the case of Civil War it was the concept moral dillema splitting the Marvel heroes and putting them against each other. Makes sense for the film to focus not on armies of heroes fighting each other and everbody acting out of character but on the moral conflict between Cap and Iron Man and how affect the relationships between the avengers. They look at the strong points of the comics while fixing it's problems.
Although, I personally think MUA2 is way better then both the original Civil War, and Captain America Civil War. I do think the movie's better then the sequel to the Civil War comic😫... Civil War 2!
Fun fact, if the deal with Sony failed and Spider-Man did NOT make it into the MCU, Marvel would have gone with a different hero from their library. Who knows what we would have gotten instead.
REALLY good to see these kinds of Honest Reviews from you again, dude. I've really missed them. Will you be doing more honest reviews of the DC animated movies? I think they've really started to improve after Apokolips War.
Since you like to complain torwards the Blockbuster Buster over bad researching. I just think Mavel Ultimate Alliance 2 is the perfect balance and the best one out of the three Civil War versions. Because MUA2 follows the Civil War story and changed some of the more questionable moments and made them better, while also telling a good story that's simply original.
This movie is awesome. Is it my favorite, no but it did get me hyped for everything moving forward. When i first saw tom holland's portrayal of spider-man, my brain imploded with how well he bounces off each character as that was my biggest worry.
Do not fret ERod, we can always wait for you to release content at your convenience 😃👍 By the way, what is the music that you used in your intro? Just curious 🙂
Yeah, I was thinking that Civil War would not be good, maybe halfway decent, because I really hated the comics. They did a goddamn miracle making this movie. Edit: I was Team Everyone Here Needs Therapy
I’ve always had a problem with this movie and it has never been easy to like it because of the fact that it made some very poor decisions. The fact that it is a “Captain America” movie instead of merely being “Civil War” already undermines the issue of being torn on sides especially since there’s now a solid moral divide where each side has its points but the main problem for me is that there is a villain. The entire plot hinges on Poor Communication Kills and rhe characters holding the Idiot Ball so that rational discussion can’t diffuse a situation allowing Zemo’s *convoluted* plan to actually succeed. Just have Bucky act recklessly during a mission to create the split between Cap and Stark so that you see it from both sides. Have him stop Crossbones from releasing that virus he stole but at the cost of collateral lives compared to all of Vienna becoming infected. It adds the extra layer of the lesser of 2 evils. And the whole business with Secovia which Stark has no guilt for since Ultron happened unexpectedly once Tony merely stepped out the room so he is innocent of anything that came of it since it was unpredictable. Furthermore, General Ross’ big lecture about The Avengers’ recklessness slaps the MCU’s efforts to show the Avengers actually care about endangering civilians caught in the crossfire which _Age of Ultron_ made a huge stink about to stick it to a certain…it’s Superman… If you need Tony to feel bad about the problems the team has caused, then bring up Tony’s villains or the Hulkbuster fight. That would at least validate Vision’s theory that they bring out the crazies they rise up to fight. And as for the inciting incident of why a registration needs to be enacted, have Scarlet Witch fail to contain the blast from Rumlo’s grenade and it causes a huge fire in the marketplace ruining peoples’ lives or livelihoods. And with that, no villain, no predetermined winner, and an actual moral gray zone.
As much as I love some Scenes in this Movie,in my opinion First Avenger is my Favorite Captain America Movie,Civil War is a Comic Book Adaptation I never Liked and the Movie did no different,Sure Spider-man and Black Panther are Amazing, the Fight Scenes, and the Characters are Fantastic, the one thing that's holding it back are the Government Blaming the Avengers for New You and Hydra and the Skovia Accords no making any sense, all in all it's a Flawed but enjoyable and watchable Movie to see.
You know, I would like to see what Captain America Serpent Society would've been like, if you still continue the Legends of Fandom Sub Series. But since you quit being the blockbuster buster, I think that's not gonna happen.
Unfortunately, this movie is one of the nails in Tony Stark's character's coffin for me (alongside with Age of Ultron). Not to mention that it basically killed any excitement I would have for Avengers movies in the future 0 I never looked forward for them as pre-Civil War. So this is one of the least Honest Reviews I was looking forward. But hey - you will talk about one of my favorite movies next time, so here's that.
I don't want to start a Marvel VS DC argument, but this film gets the point of Superheroes fighting each other in a way the Dawn of Justice didn't. It's not that superheroes are fighting, it's that friends are fighting which gives the fight its emotional weight.
First off Erod only has a maximum one dollar for videos on his patreon. Second off he did just do an honest review of The Legend of Vox Machina you can check out without paying anything. And these honest reviews are also for the main channel without having to pay anything. That's why he's doing a "premiering in six hours" for this not a vid saying "you can only watch this on Patreon".
My favorite lines:
Comedic - anything from Ant-Man
Dramatic - "He killed my mom."
So happy to finally see this and it has been worth the wait. Hope you're doing well, ERod!
Zemo also founded the Masters of Evil, so Bucky revealing he wasn’t the only Winter Solider lead to another great misdirect.
He's back with a bang. Kickass, man

Well done ERod. Never thought I'd see it but feels good to see.
Ant-man did have some of the best moments in this movie, like when he goes into Iron-man's suit:
Tony: Who's speaking?
Scott: It's your conscience, we don't talk a lot these days.
At last! So happy to see you finally starting Infinity War Journal and looking forward to the rest of it.
Hugs ERod.
Just want to say, in the comics, for like 80 years, "Cap is for it" has been shorthand for the "right side".
Oh, yeah. I've waited a long time for this.
Always loved your Honest Reviews the most. This is why it should've been called Avengers Civil War
It’s good to see you again.
I offer you all the love and care you need.

Man, I missed these.
I also really missed the Agents of Shield theme? Forgot how much how I loved that peace of music.

Hello old friend. It’s good to see you again
Welcome back, ERod!
Thanks Erod! I’ve been waiting for this for YEARS!
I was Team Cap as well and I saw the film on the 4th of July
I will NEVER get tired of the theme song. It’s a certified banger 🔥
The difference between this and Avengers movies is the Avengers are united, and Capt America Civil War Avengers are divided.
Oooh I've been waiting for this! Glad to see the Honest Reviews back!
Fun fact, if the deal with Sony failed and Spider-Man did NOT make it into the MCU, Marvel would have gone with a different hero from their library. Who knows what we would have gotten instead.

@@autobotproductions1244 Understandable.
@@Hewylewis yeah. I’d like to see it as well, but we’ll just have to wait on him and if he’s up to it

I've been watching your videos for ten years! I was in high school when i started and now I'm in my mid 20s
I being waiting to for this since I was a freshman in college, and now I'm gonna graduate
nice review Erod. I was Team Cap too

captain America civil war is such a great movie. :)
13:00 why was that transaction so clean
Also, no mention of the return of "Thunderbolt" Ross as the Secretary of State?
Oh yeah Erod is back baby!
Yeah, I was thinking that Civil War would not be good, maybe halfway decent, because I really hated the comics. They did a goddamn miracle making this movie.

Alexa, play "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift.
But srsly, ERod: sending you a hug and a salute from Texas. You rock!

Hundred per cent agree its the best mcu film
great video :)
Imo this movie didn't need Zemo at all the story should have just been about the two opposing sides .
Don’t know why Erod hasn’t upgraded his video software and still looks very old quality.
They really feel old. like they could have come out in 2015, although that may be the point.
In the comics I was team cap, in the film I was definitely team iron man
I was team cap too
