Here in Maine the licensing required for bottling honey is pretty dumb. If you take chunk of honey comb and throw it in a dirty jar no license required. Now if you take that frame cut the cap off of the honey comb with a hot knife, put the frame in a honey spinner to extract the honey from the honey comb, then filtered and jarred you need a license because now it's "processed". We had a farm store selling our pork and beef raised on our farm that was usda inspected and other local products. Sales dropped and we were forced to close the store.

Finally someone from the I states hit on the fact that while you had a drought there we had record acreage in Texas and a wet spring with more corn than we’ve ever seen; and somehow it’s unfathomable to some people the USDAs bushel numbers.

It was actually a big carry and basis win with grain bins this year. 12+ gain per contract roll and basis gain and bins made 40-50 cents/bushel. But grain bins are not for board speculation. Just like last year price gain had nothing to do with storing the grain.

Legend has it that a farmer once won a 10 million dollar lottery, but he just continued to farm until he lost it all.

With the hogs do you have any distillaries around to get mash from for feed? Or is that really an option.

@1:01:36 "we have to keep some agriculture around here" " our ending stocks are massive"
What about changing demand though, what about population growth, what if we get to the point that we cannot improve yield as fast as the growth in consumption?

Renewable Diesel is completely uneconomical on its own as it’s in the $5-$6 production cost range. Easiest way to figure what it costs to produce a gallon of RD from beans is to take the soy oil price times 8 and add $1-$2 for overhead.
So we have to have the very states we cuss aka California say yes we will pay 30-50% more for diesel.

You talk about global market for traditional crops, but yet you are trying to add value with your own pork processing. Maybe you should look at large scale fresh vegetables for local market.

Eat food! Burn oil and natural gas for fuel. This guy wants to burn more food in our cars and trucks. End the subsidies and that market falls flat.

You do realize CRP hold the dirt from all the plant roots, doesn’t fill in ditches. When you guys plant corn and soybeans, you guys aren’t even making enough rock structure to hardly do anything that’s why I have. The corn plants are washed out Create breeding ground for more natural animals snd plants to reproduce. And if you mow it and take care of it right, it should never have anything overgrown in it. Just at Farmer that wants to farm more but doesn’t think about what actually is helping him more in the long run.
