Scottish half marathon on 19th September only gave myself 9 weeks to train . so hoping some muscle memory kicks in from doing several a few years ago . 😬
Oh my goodness, I can’t believe how close marathon season is! So excited to finally be close to running my first marathon - especially excited for the Sterling marathon next year and hopefully one day the London marathon! Thank you to the running channel for making me feel more prepared and much less nervous!
Started exercising during a very dark period in my life. After the gyms closed due to covid I transitioned to running; and hated it with a passion. But... it gave me some piece of mind and having done something productive in my day gave me a fulfilling feeling. First time I topped out at 7:30/km pace and felt like dying 3 times during my 3km run. Half year later I completed 5 half marathons, nearing the 2h barrier and looking ahead to the marathon and beyond. Kinda addicted by now...
I’m 50yo living in rural Queensland, Australia. Started running again in January this year with mind and heart set on Racing the Planet Atacama Desert Crossing 250k stage race in 3-4 years. Training has progressed from needing to walk after 10-12min to running long runs over 10k comfortably non-stop and now weigh 83kg from 96kg at the start of the year! I’ve notched up 5 x Parkrun PBs this year so far and looking at my first trail 1/2 marathon in December. Next year I have my sights on 4-5 trail marathons. The Running Channel has been such an inspiration, motivation and school for me not just starting to run again but to keep running and running smart. God bless your team and no doubt you’ll have a part to play as I progress in training and achievements towards my ultimate goal.
YAY! You guys always happen to upload when I’m getting ready for my long run so I love watching as I’m training for my first marathon! I have 20 miles to do today! 💃🏻
After a work accident a few years ago my husband got a lot bigger than he would have wanted and lost all fitness due to not being able to exercise. This year he took up running and has done so well, lost loads of weight and done a 5k and 10k race so far and has now signed up for his first marathon next summer. I am so proud of him.
I went through a dark period in my life and running has been a savior. All those tougher runs were all worth it in the end and made me a bit addicted haha. I couldnt have done it without the help of The Running Channel. This community is amazing and im grateful to be part of it. Thank you so much. ;)
I started running when I was in the darkest place of my life in January, now i'm running a half marathon next weekend. Shows anyone can achieve their goals, running is awesome therapy!
Love it - I've done 2 marathons and am training for an ultra, which feels like a whole different ball game, but the basic principles you have highlighted in this video still apply!
After losing over 70 lbs in 2019, I came across Annas video of her running the NYC Marathon. This motivated me to get into running and now I will be running my first marathon in November, in NYC!
I recently ran my first half marathon and now a full marathon seems somehow more impossibly long... Kudos to all of you that manage through one! Respect!
You guys have been a shining light in my training for my second marathon. I ran a virtual Marathon a few weeks before my son was born in the midst of COVID last year. Now a year later, I’m training with the running stroller and about to do my second just before his birthday. On the mornings that I’m feeding him at the butt crack of dawn and don’t want to run before work, I watch you videos to pump myself up! Thanks for all the help! Keep posting wonderful videos!
Currently in Training for my first ever Marathon in October. Took up running during the Covid lockdown and watching your videos have helped fuel my new passion 😁
As a new runner I am just about finished with a Couch to 5k! I have been having a blast with running and a Marathon is definitely on the bucket list! Primarily I am running and strength training for the weight loss. Motivation has been tough for me and i’ve been pretty overweight for most of my life. Recently something clicked in my mind when I saw my weight at the doctor’s and it kickstarted my journey! I’m excited to lead a better and fitter life!
Loved Anna's comment about taking the race at your own pace and not worrying about other people--you all complete the same distance. As someone with degenerative conditions in both knees, own pace gets an A+ in my book.
Just ordered a running channel sweatshirt that I can’t wait to wear on my runs! I’ve been watching your channel for awhile and its great to have such a sense of community. Anna and I could definitely be besties if we lived in the same country :)
Hi! I am a runner from Singapore. The longest distance i have ever run in my life so far is 10km. These few months, i have been working to increase my mileage and have been running consistently 5 days a week. However, because of the strict Covid regulations here, there isn't any non-virtual marathon or parkruns for me to look forward to. I hope to sign up for my first half marathon race when marathon signups are open in my region. Meanwhile, my current goal is to increase my endurance and hopefully hit my goal pace by the end of the year! Btw, i am a huge fan of all your running videos :) Keep up the great work!!
The running channel has been supporting me through my journey from doing couch to 5k during May 2020 to doing the London Marathon in 6 weeks time for Crohn’s & Colitis UK! Thank you so much for all the great videos keeping me going 💜
Hi guys! Thanks for all the great info on top marathon questions answered! Me, my husband and son are all running in the Brighton Marathon in 3 weeks! Super excited and dreading it in equal measures! 😆😆😆 Goal: to cross the finish line! 🏃♂️ 🏃 🏃♀️
My first thought when I watched this video was oh man, I wish I was a runner and subscribed to the running channel when they were doing this competition (perhaps 2 years ago). Then I realised it's a new video! Aiming for a marathon in 2022. Training for a half this autumn.
You really have a comprehensive video. My suggestion for anyone wanting to run a marathon: do a few races beforehand. Get used to the feel of toeing the line and know how races work. I had done at least a hundred races before my first marathon and I still had a ton of anxiety but one I didn't have was how races worked and what to expect. Also I would suggest that people be currently capable of running about 30km a week with a long run of at least 12 to 14km. Love your channel and I look forward to your videos.
I did my first half marathon this year 2021. Followed a training plan and absolutely convinced it's the way to go. Marathon most likely next year now. I build distance very slowly and with recovery weeks to reduce risk of injury.
I'm currently training for a 10 mile race, but the end goal is definetely to one day run a marathon! Audio books are great for long runs (I was expecting this would slow me down, but it doesn't), just make sure you are still aware of your surroundings!
Keep going and don't give up!! 1st Marathon Dublin 2018 @ 4:35hrs, my 2019 training had me comfortable for 4:10hr finish until knee wobble at 18, stop start until 21 when with daggers everywhere I walked home dragging my leg behind me like quasimodo. 'Ran' last 200m across the line but no way was I not finishing!! It doesn't matter how fast you are, trust you're training and revel in being a member of the 1% to complete the distance.
I started running a bit more than 2 years ago, did my first half Marathon 1 year ago and will do my first full Marathon in about 2 months, the SwissCityMarathon in Lucerne. In all that, the Running Channel was a much appreciated source of inspiration, motivation and information. Keep up your good work!
Running the Brighton Marathon in three weeks...it's creeping up on me real fast 😱but I'm adding 1 mile to each run and I'm up to 8 miles now! I'm sure I'll be fine as I ran a half-marathon before with my training runs only being up to half the distance! Thank you for your content guys, I love this channel ☺️ I find you super motivational!!
I have started building up my base fitness before committing to my full marathon training schedule. I will be running the Manchester marathon next April. Current runs around the 6mile mark. Anything I do I throw myself fully into and become obsessive about it so this channel is perfect for all my research and queries. Keep up the good work guys and stay healthy.
Running my first half marathon this year! The running bug is real. And to think, it all started with a 5k! Maybe next year I’ll run my first marathon! Your videos are the best! Loved Anna’s facial expressions in this video!
Currently training for my first half marathon race in September. I am so excited and glad that the running channel is giving me all the tips to get through it.Yay
I have only done the Jersey Marathon in 2013 and now a good few years later, I am attempting the London Marathon in 5 weeks eeeeek. Really enjoying these videos - thank you so much for all the tips!
I have a big goal. To complete the Big 6 marathons before I’m 30. Having ran my first half marathon in March last year, I’ve decided to take the leap to train for a full marathon as I love the feeling you get crossing that finishing line! Great video as always guys 💪🏽
As a ‘veteran’ of 5 marathons, and now training for Boston, these were all great tips. One I might add as is to trust your training, especially in the taper period. I’m going through this now- the 18 mile long run I did today felt really hard, and the idea that I will have to do another 8 miles at an even faster pace seems unattainable at this stage. But I remind myself I did 2 speed sessions earlier this week and it’s really humid out, and so I have to trust that I will get there.
I am halfway through training for my first marathon so great to get tips on what to think about. Hopefully will see it through. Would be interested to know more about coping with the “wall”
Yesss!!!! I LOVED this video! So needed. I've ran 3 half marathons before, and have 2 later this year... (GNR and Manchester Half) but I bit the bullet and signed up for my first ever FULL MARATHON next April (Manchester Marathon) I am scared and excited in equal measure but even more relieved to have found your channel a few weeks ago as I know there will be plenty of content to look through for help along the way! Thanks guys as always :)
Thanks for adressing these questions. Running the Leiden (Holland) marathon this October and signing up for de London marathon 2022. You guys are insperational.
I’m training for the Philadelphia Half Marathon right now (which will be my fourth half) as my partner trains for the Philly Marathon - his first marathon!! Love watching your videos, both for the education AND for the fun! 🏃🏻♀️
Training for my first Marathon in October! Cancelled last year the day after I ran my longest run ever and started tapering - was gutting! Can't wait to get it done this year 😊
For the first time in my life I'm actually enjoying running and I've been binge-watching your videos since I've set myself the goal of running a marathon next year. Thanks for all the useful tips and tricks!
I just turned 60 this year and would love to run a marathon one day. I never started getting in shape until my 50s. I'm in better shape now than in my 30s when I was 40LBs heavier and couldn't walk around the block. It's August and I am just running around 6K per run about 3x a week but would love to run a half and eventually a full marathon this year sometime but not sure that is realistic. Right now, the heat is killing me ( well over 30C with humidity here in Ontario, Canada). Thanks for the great information. I watch these weekly for inspiration.
Thankyou for this informative video. 👍👍 I'm training for my first marathon in Melbourne which is also my 30th Birthday. I'm glad I found The Running Channel, I have been watching your videos consistently and getting tips to be a better runner. Keep up the good work. 🙂👍
I’m doing my first ever marathon at Manchester 2022! So excited for it! I started running again back in October and did a half marathon by myself in February during the really strict lockdown (was probably my favourite memory from the first half of the year!). I got a few injuries along the way (the classic tendinitis and ITBS) but now building back up for my first half race at the end of September and then the marathon next year! Love the videos and all the advice 💪🏻
Appreciate that your videos are always approachable to newer runners! My favorite Marathon is Dublin, currently training for Firewater 100k in Tennessee in October - fingers crossed!
Just signed up for my first marathon in Edinburgh next May and these videos are great, they’re giving me lots of useful tips for how I should start my training. Thank you and keep up the good work 👍🏻
I'm getting ready to enter my first 🥇 marathon! I'm running my first half marathon for my birthday in just 2 weeks! The Running Channel has been there for me since the start of my running career, which began in March! I've run 4 races since then, each increasing in distance and gotten a medal at each one! Ranging from 1st in age group to 4th place in a 15k! The advise and support found here is absolutely fantastic! I know if I got that running kit, I'd feel like the luckiest girl! Grateful to see Rick recovering well, too! Keep the great info coming guys! @therunningchannel
I've tried to pick up running so many times before and always ended up injured in a couple of weeks trying to do too much too soon. This time 'round I'm starting slow & steady, building towards a half marathon next year and eventually a marathon after that. I'm only three weeks into my running journey and I'm already hooked!
Training for my first marathon which is a trail marathon around Kielder water. I've often wondered whether it's ok to stop and walk so thank you for assuring me it is!
I just gave birth to our second son last month and I'm currently slowly starting to get back into some strength and stability training. Can't wait to start running again soon. I don't want to rush things so I'm aiming for a half marathon in autumn 2022. I have to admit it feels like starting all over from the beginning again. 🙈 Thanks for your videos. They are really great for keeping me enthusiastic about getting back into my running shoes. ♥️
Your videos are always filled with helpful info. Definitely hit the wall during my first marathon in 2019. Weather was just crazy warm during the marathon while all my training was done in cold, rainy/stormy weather. Focussing on more strength training and practicing my nutrition more on my long runs this time around. Fingers crossed Rotterdam won't get postponed again 🤞. Thanks for all the great work you guys do! Always tuning in! And good luck to everyone who is training for an upcoming race!
Great Video! Really helpful advice. I have a ballot place for the Virgin London Marathon on the 3rd October 2021 - super excited to have this amazing opportunity to tick of a Bucket List item of mine. Huge learning curve as I had never run before but Couch to 5K was a great start and I've been marathon training ever since. Your videos have been a huge resource! Thank you x
Last year I did the Virtual London Marathon around places of personal significance in my home town (Rugby) to earn a medal from the city I once served to protect, for “MY (1st) Marathon”. This year inspired by The Running Channel/Anna’s video of the backwards marathon, I will be plodding the streets of the capital in the early hours to help raise funds for our son’s primary school (St. Matthews Bloxam, Rugby) for my Virtual London Medal; in thanks for everything the school/PTA has done for all the kids since Covid-19 appeared. I love the motivation behind both of these, but if I should run one again - my 3rd marathon will definitely be an organised, close roads event! I’ve had enough of virtuals and carrying all my kit on me 😂
I watch your videos for motivation during training. I've run 4 marathons and the wall is my biggest challenge; Tried different training plans, race pacing staregies and fueling, but still find the last 6 miles incredibly tough.
I can't thank the Running Channel enough for all the advice and community vibes. I only started running in Jan but I have my first marathon coming up! Xxx
For those looking for a marathon PR, I can recommend a progression of races building to the big event : 5k then 10 then half marathon. The race atmosphere intensifies the quality of the speed session and gives a good indication of your progress at the same time.
Signed up for the belfast marathon for the 2nd time, my first marathon was great up until the I hit THE WALL! but with such a fantastic atmosphere and people cheering me on I got through it even with severe foot cramps. I'm training alot more this year and hope to get a pb. Thanks for all the tips, as always love the content! Keep it coming 🥰
I'm glad I found your channel. I've been running again since August of last year (after about a 10 year gap) and I signed up to run my first marathon this October.
Running London (first marathon) in October. You have really helped with all the tips and I am happy to say I completed a half marathon distance for the first time in training. Aiming for a 5 hour finish but will just be elated to finish the course.
Great q&a’s thank you, it’s my first marathon and I’m doing it as my disabled son is going into adult care when he turns 18 in October and it’s helping my mental health stay on track!
Training for my first half marathon in October and planning to work up to a full marathon next year! The content here has been super helpful in that prep, keep up the good work!
My two marathons so far have been on my street and around the car park at the end of my street. I'd like to do the Brecon Beacons marathon, and/ or a trail marathon, and am less keen on running around a car park in the rain. Thanks for the channel! Love the education and entertainment, but probably most like knowing finding it tough is normal.
Just ran a 1/2 marathon last weekend as a tune up race. PB by a large margin, but full marathon still looms as a much larger challenge. 8 days out till the marathon, nothing left to do but trust the taper and enjoy the ride.
Many thanks for your Ts and Cs. I have booked for my first marathon in Brighton April 2022. Getting nervous even this far away. Coming back from a very bad injury which has been difficult for me, your videos been very helpful. Keep up the great content. 👍
Last weekend I did the Burnham Beeches Half Marathon taking onboard what I've watched on this channel and ended up beating my 2019 Reading Half marathon time by 14mins with a sub 2hr time. So now I'm going the next step and to do the Manchester Marathon 2022.
My favorite marathon is the Twin Cities Marathon in Minneaplis/St. Paul, Minnesota this coming October. I'll be running my second one there and it is an ideal race! Thousands of spectators, live music, fall colors, and a great mix of urban and natural scenery. If you haven't run this one, you'll want to!
I am super excited as I just signed up for my first marathon. The race will be in fall of 2022. Some day my goal is to do a charity run of the Boston, Chicago and New York marathons.
I’ve done 5 marathons 2 being virtual, two marathons in consecutive weekends back in September and then my first ultra my birthday in April and first sub 4 hour marathon. Doing Ironman 70.3 19th September then first city marathon Manchester in October. It will be my husbands first marathon the day after his 50th birthday. My big goal is outlaw full next year the thought of running a marathon after a long swim and bike is interesting :-)
Recently ran my first half in three years - slowly and just around my neighbourhood, but felt super proud. My sights are now set on a 25k... Followed by a marathon. In a slight summer slump at the moment but will hopefully spring back soon!
I love your channel! I started running about 4 months ago and have my first half marathon in 4 weeks! I'm very excited and nervous, but here's to hoping it's the start of more halfs and (someday) full marathons!
Love it! I ran my own solo marathon in Rome during April this year. I remember hitting a wall around 30k and had to walk for a little bit. Without crowds and aid stations it was a massive challenge - thankfully Rome has plenty of water fountains! I managed it in 3:40, which I was so chuffed with. Huge respect for all marathon runners: it's a true achievement. This channel was so helpful for inspiration during my training. On my way to an ultra now! :)
i just ran my first half marathon last week. i will do another half in November, then a full marathon in January. thanks to The Running Channel for providing so much valuable information.
Greetings from SE London! Just returned to running after a loooong period off work with depression, and bouncing back nicely. I have however booked a 50k in a moment of enthusiastic madness (and gonna use marathon distance as a proximal goal after the Hackney Half this September). £200 worth of kit would really help me on the road to 50k, am rubbing pennies together at the moment in the hope that a hydration vest will materialise!!! Thanks for your informative videos, the channel has really helped me transition back into running :)

I've got a half marathon coming up. So excited to cross that finish line
So looking forward to marathon season
Scottish half marathon on 19th September only gave myself 9 weeks to train . so hoping some muscle memory kicks in from doing several a few years ago . 😬
How can you train for a more hilly race when you live in a flat area?
Oh my goodness, I can’t believe how close marathon season is! A marathon is just two half marathons - that doesn't seem so hard, right? Right...? 😂
If you're worried get a running buddy to sign up and run it together!
You guys have been a shining light in my training for my second marathon.
I ran a virtual Marathon a few weeks before my son was born in the midst of COVID last year. Now a year later, I’m training with the running stroller and about to do my second just before his birthday.

I've only just signed up for my first ever race, the Chatsworth 10k. Hopefully I can progress to a half, and then, gulp, a marathon one day 👍🏻🏃♂️
You're on the right path for that, Mark! Good luck for your 10K 😊
One step at a time, you'll get there though.
I'm also now googling the chatsworth 10k!
@@saffie1990 thanks! It looks like an interesting race with all sorts of terrain.
10k for your first ever race??? you better have trained very well 6 miles non-stop is no joke

I ran my first Marathon last Saturday. Thank you Running Channel, you were my online support and coach during the whole process!!
I was surprised when Anna’s answer to the “What do you wear for a marathon” question was: “Nothing!”
I don't remember that. I can't believe I missed it!
@@RobDickson69 9:48. Granted she keeps on going with her point from there, but it still surprised me in the moment :)
"Nothing!" huh.... what?.... "New. On. Race day!", ah that makes a lot more sense XD

Was meant to be running the London Marathon in 2020 and now I won't be running until October 2022! Love your videos for keeping me motivated!
Started running in a new country, in a new city and I love discovering all the new paths and views that it has to offer. Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭

Currently training for my first half marathon race in September. I am so excited and glad that the running channel is giving me all the tips to get through it.Yay
Running my first marathon in October, and your videos provide vital information. Thanks for all your content!
I have only done the Jersey Marathon in 2013 and now a good few years later, I am attempting the London Marathon in 5 weeks eeeeek. Really enjoying these videos - thank you so much for all the tips!
The running channel is always helping everyone! You guys rock! Love from New York
I have a big goal. To complete the Big 6 marathons before I’m 30. Having ran my first half marathon in March last year, I’ve decided to take the leap to train for a full marathon as I love the feeling you get crossing that finishing line! Great video as always guys 💪🏽
I'm looking forward to my first marathon, of the trail variety, in the middle of October. I just hope the weather will be decent.
Love it, training for my first marathon, long run today did not go as planned, but learning to embrace the lessons and enjoy the journey.
I am halfway through training for my first marathon so great to get tips on what to think about. Hopefully will see it through. Would be interested to know more about coping with the “wall”
Yesss!!!! I LOVED this video! So needed. I've ran 3 half marathons before, and have 2 later this year... (GNR and Manchester Half) but I bit the bullet and signed up for my first ever FULL MARATHON next April (Manchester Marathon)
I am scared and excited in equal measure but even more relieved to have found your channel a few weeks ago as I know there will be plenty of content to look through for help along the way!
I’ll start training for my 4th marathon in a few months - it’s in April 2022! I’m super excited and nervous-thank you for this video!
This video was perfect timing for me! I’ve got my first marathon in a week and a half. Praying that I’ll be ready
Good luck!
Running my second ever marathon at Brighton in September. Always enjoy your channel as it answers all my questions…
Training for my first half marathon in October, really like watching these videos of yours!
Thanks for your videos. They are really great for keeping me enthusiastic about getting back into my running shoes. ♥️
Great to hear this! Congrats on the birth of your son 😊
Thanks for posting! Running my 2 nd half marathon today! You guys are so helpful! Wish me luck
Thanks for the kind words Claudia! Good luck for your upcoming races 😊
Good, solid advice. I just finished Leadville and am resting up for a rim to rim to rim at the Grand Canyon.
I’ve had enough of virtuals and carrying all my kit on me 😂
My next running goal is a half marathon. I started from couch in February and have immensely enjoyed my running journey so far.
Xxx
Far better than google, tips are super useful and calmed all my marathon stresses. Now just need to get out the door on my long run.
My bucket list is to do a full marathon! I have recently ran my 21st half marathon of this year! I need all the tips I can get!
That's fantastic Jen! Glad you found this video useful 😁
I'm glad I found your channel. I've been running again since August of last year (after about a 10 year gap) and I signed up to run my first marathon this October.
Building back up after a calf strsin and excited to start some long runs again! Thanks for all the coaching!
I'm deep into marathon training ahead of the Manchester Marathon. Marathon training is tough but the rewards are more than worth it!
I am actually training for a half marathon but I still find these marathon themed videos very useful!
Looking forward to my first organized race in october..just started running a couple weeks ago. Your videos are really helping out :)
Only recently started training for marathon distance, consequently stumbled upon your channel and am loving it! Thank you!
Great to hear! Good luck with your training Carolyn! Which marathon are you running?
Thanks for the advice. Looking forward to completing my first marathon in Montreal Canada
Many thanks for your Ts and Cs. I have booked for my first marathon in Brighton April 2022. Getting nervous even this far away. Coming back from a very bad injury which has been difficult for me, your videos been very helpful. Keep up the great content. 👍
Thanks Michael! Easy does it and good luck with your training for Brighton 😊
Thanks for all the tips, love seeing you two together again
Great tips! I’m training for the Seven Bridges Marathon on Oct 17 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Thanks for the tips and reminders. A great help before my first race post plague.
Love this video!! Definitely excited for my first marathon in San Diego this fall! 60 days to the day until race day. Thanks for the helpful tips!
Much respect very impressive 👏
Great tips... making me consider getting my 2nd marathon booked in. You can't beat that feeling as you cross the finish line
i just ran my first half marathon last week. i will do another half in November, then a full marathon in January. thanks to The Running Channel for providing so much valuable information.
Glad you're finding it helpful Dave!
Thanks for being the most accessible source of running info on RUclips!
What’s a good time to start tapering from your last long ~20 mile long run?
Did my first half marathon during the summer, looking forward to a full marathon next year. Thanks for all the tips 👍
