I have run for many years and have completed many marathons. I always train specifically for each marathon. Last year I just picked a marathon and ran it with my normal training. ( about 25-30 miles a week) No long run, no taper, just show up and run. Everything was fine until around 18 and then it was a sufferfest. It was fun looking back just seeing what would happen. Good job and maybe try a trail 50K next.

About mile 17 known as hitting the wall because glycogen is depleted and so experts say eat gels/bars when nearing that mark.

I have got my first ever marathon on April 8th in Manchester in the UK, and I guess you can figure why I was searching on here for "can I complete a marathon without training". ...I was planning on backing out of the race but out of the 15,000 entrants I have been selected as one of ten runners to be filmed for TV and share my story and work alongside the ambassadors for the race ...so now there is no escape!
Well done on completing your race, I feel a little more at ease now ...i think ha

Thanks you. Less than 2 weeks to go! I did actually manage to get a 17 mile run in just over a week ago, which was good. What wasnt so good is that I seem to have busted my knee on that run so I have been resting it since. I'll try to remember to drop by and let you know how I get on with the race

Ashley Lee Hey good luck on your race! I did my first marathon 2 weeks ago at the LA marathon and it’s super fun but of course also painful lol You go this!

    • @DJAsh-Lee
      @DJAsh-Lee 6 лет назад +5

I realised I forgot to let you know how I got on. I ran the marathon in Manchester last sunday and it went far better than I expected. I decided that instead of being worried and nervous I would try to relax and enjoy it. Like a 26 mile party. The aim was just to finish and if i could make it under 4 hours 30 then that would be a bonus. I finished in 04:03:30 seconds! Passing 2 friends in the final few miles who where both experienced marathoners! I am now considering running it again next year, and training to get that sub 4.
And if i can run a marathon, anybody can. Thanks again for the well wishes and of course the video to help me believe it was possible. Ash

  • @maxicord02

I did this but for 21K only. I run up to 18K then do walk-run til the finish line. I did get cramp 300m away from the finish line. I felt involuntary curving of my right foot so I had to stop for two minutes. Then I run to finish the race. Yap could barely walk for 1 week. I really thought you are not going to make it specially when you started feeling pain but I was surprised you did. Amazing. Congrats. Looking back at my first 21K again, there was no way I could continue to go for another 21K. Maybe another 5K max.

I also did marathon without training. I hate running but I want the medals. I also talked to my doctor if it's okay. My goals was less than 6hrs. my first was worst, because I walked a lot and took time. I think the more you took time the more pain you will have after. My second is I just jogged, and it wasn't painful as much than the first.

I am now 48 and ran my half in 2 hrs. 8 minutes yesterday. I do about 1500 miles per year. I first marathon(no walking) was 4 hrs. 22 m. Not fast but the mental challenge is the same.any way you get there walk or run is great. Any one that decides to become a runner has guts. Glad to message a fellow runner!

it also really depends on the marathon. I have run marathon without training, (i've only done 2, but the one i trained for hurts every bit as much :D) but it was in Edinburgh, which is a very flat course, and also you have the wind behind you for 75% of the course, a decent coastal breeze. it really helps.
(also let's be honest here, even those that don't walk/run are at best jogging. only a tiny fraction actually RUN a marathon. the edinburgh course double back on itself... and when you see those guys HOURS ahead of you it's incredibly impressive/inspiring/depressing)

No training is needed. Training can actually make you think you can't run a marathon, the first 6 miles is harder than the 2nd 6 miles, most people who train get similar times all the time regardless of how many times they go out and run. I do my 42nd and 43rd marathon this weekend within 5 years, what you really need is mind training and experience, do it in a marathon forget the training no problem, What I can say at 41 marathons I can take my mind back to any point in my past life before I was a runner and complete a ultra marathon not just me, my first 7 marathons I said it would be the last by the way :)

I ran one without training, finished in 4 hours and 10 mins, at the time I was consuming weed almost 2 to 3 times a day and I entered into the marathon because of a stupid bet I made while high a couple months before. Showed up, ran for 22 miles with no problems, then pulled my it band on my left leg and suffered through the last 4 miles. Was actually on pace for a 3:40 before the injury.

I did this when i was 21, wasn't intentional, a worked 5-6 days a week in retail, my mum was on her way out with cancer so kind of spur of the moment applied to run for a cancer charity and got a place after agreeing to raise a set amount.... planned 6 months of training, to get me ready... had smoked and drank since my early teens and ate lots of fast food and meal deals for convenience while working.... More importantly for me, id never done running, always hated it, not good at football or anything like that and because of everything that was going on had only managed 6 "training runs" in the 6 months prior to the marathon... about one a month and only maxed out at 14 miles with lots of stops... was out at a friends birthday party the night before and had a couple of drinks...on race day i knew i was stupid, stood on the start line smoking a cig in the rain and wind, 6ft 2 was just about 14 stone, running in slightly too small cross country trainers on tarmac, because i literally had done no prep and didn't realise how much id notice... loaded up on pain killers, hit the wall 4 miles in when my kidneys felt like they had exploded :') didn't stop moving for the entire thing for fear of cramping up, just kept moving, knowing that i didn't want my mum to see me fail. final time for the marathon was 5hr 15 mins. finished it thinking that id literally pushed myself as far as possible without dropping dead, couldn't bend my legs at the finish to take my joggers off, or walk for a couple of days after and had on and off heart palpitations for 9 months. But it wasn't that bad, worth it even just to know my own strength, only when your at the actual peak of your physical endurance that you can appreciate the difficulty. good effort

did the same thing personally. took me 5:58 mins, tho you seamed to have stopped and got food more.. and was 26 at the time, weighed about 120kg/260LB, and im 5:11/6 ft. the night before i stayed at a pub/inn about 10 min walk from the start, and had maybe 7 or 8 pints. then morning of, i had 2 XL mars bars and 2 cans of monster. took me 2 or 3 days to be albe to walk again. did this at the London Marathon...
i did do a tiny bit of 'training' i brought trainers months before hand, wore them most days to break them in, and 2 weeks before the race, i did a 10-15 min run to make sure shoes were comfy. but as the london marathon is in April, the time i should have been training was cold and wet... so i didnt.
i had done 1 bit of running before, i ran a 5k 3/4 years before the marathon, and it took me 37 mins, and my marathon pace per 5km was 40mins on average.. so i just have a pace and go

  • @lostadio7182

I ran a marathon with no training. I got offered a free place at the London Marathon and thought, yeah, I can do that. At the time, I was just playing 5 a side soccer, once a week. I stupidly thought I could train by buying a bike but still ended up buying the wrong one. I had full intentions of starting training 'next week' but didn't even go out once and before I knew it, I was one week away from the race.
Everybody was telling me that i couldn't do it but I ended up finishing in 5 1/2 hours and ruined my knees for about 9 months.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I train now and do half marathons but I've still not seriously thought about my second full one.

Cool untrained brother! At age 32 did an untrained marathon at 4:45. Only ran a 5 mile jog 3 months before it. Was my second marathon the first being 3:45 2 years before. Then 15 years later at 47 thought ‘ok let’s go run another untrained 26.2 miles!’ for kicks and ...,bonked out at 13! Complete bonk.Time is ticking and no way could handle an untrained at 47. But with training you can even today at 54 stay in shape bike n run. Life is a Blessing!!!

People have no clue. Lots of people do run/walk in marathons, half marathons and even 5ks! I realize that isn't exactly what you did, but you completed a marathon and that's a feat that not many people have done. I wonder if some of the people commenting even have attempted to! I ran my first marathon last year and let me tell you, I claim the term RAN even though I ran for 2 min and walked the next 30 seconds for the entire race. Without doing any math, it's obvious that I didn't RUN it, but check out Jeff Galloway. He's an accomplished RUNNER, and he run/walks. So CLAIM your marathon, no excuses! You did great! But, wow... how did you EVER eat so much? My stomach would definitely rebel!

I did it, it succckkkeeddd! I ran the first half in 2.36, i finished in 6 hours... yeah..
I learned that training is more for conditioning joints and bones and not so much for the actual fitness, however that was probably because I'm cyclist so have a reasonable aerobic base..

Bagpipes seem to be for funerals in the U.S. They use them for marching bands and everything in Scotland.

If it is possible with no training, I'm sure I could do it with the cycling and occasional running I do. Now I just need some motivation, and a load of bananas.

THE TITLE IS A QUESTION. Scott knows how to manipulate minds, create a video and increase the number of his views. No harm, no foul. I believe all people with their mental capacities would know the answer anyway.
