I'm guessing no one here is a huge gaslight fan. If you were you'd notice he doesn't have a wedding ring on so this is right around the time of his divorce. Not hungover. Depressed. That's what a depressed guy singing his heart out to the girl he lost. If you want to hear pain and soul, give this song another listen.
+Anthony Miner i love it and it still gets me so sad. i mean the emotional ties that i hold to TGA songs, and seeing him like this, i definitely feel it; but i still cant let up that its a bad cover haha
Yeah I saw him live around that time too, he was drinking again and he seemed kind of bummed out but at the same time, he put on a positive face and played some amazing songs.
9 years later...This version is still ridiculously good! The way Brian interpreted it is beautifully haunting! You feel every ounce of the pain and sorrow in his voice.
You can hear the emotion in Brian's voice, such an amazing stripped down performance - your always gonna get them fans comparing ... he made it his own well done Brian!
Happy to have them back, but looking back at this is bittersweet. How close they were to really making it big. Can remember thinking the next step was arenas.
I wasn't sure about this cover until about half-way through and I realized how excellent it is. People listen to Brian Fallon and The Gaslight Anthem, The Horrible Crowes, whatever else he puts on tape, because of how it seems like he really means the words he's singing. There's so much substance to the music he puts out I love it.
For me Everlong is the Holy Grail of rock songs. It has everything, heavy guitars, good lyrics, killer drums. But when you break it down to is essence, you get a real fragile song. When dave sings it in front of 80.000 people, you get 80.000 stories back. This story is sung by Brian Fallon. He may not be the best vocalist, but you can hear the pain in his voice. For me this version puts the song in a whole other perspective. And lets me re-listen the song in another way. I'm not gonna say it's better than Dave's acoustic version, but it comes really fucking close.
Well said! I could never get into Foo for a really long time. This version of the song definitely makes it feel like a completely different song, it feels much more raw and emotional and it ended up making me fall in love with the foo fighters!
I didn't actually like this at first being a huge Foo Fighters fan but the more I listen to The Gaslight Anthem, the more I start to love Brian's voice and his style. It's not for everyone but it's a song that clearly means a lot to the guy and he's totally put his own spin on it.
This may be the best collaboration of a few of my favorite things. In fact, I have Everlong's lyrics tattooed on one arm, with Gaslight Anthem lyrics on the other.
I totally agree with you, most sensible comment on here. This is raw, even the skin and bones stuff is too clean. This is just Brian picking up a guitar and being like yeah I like this song, so what. I think most people attacking the cover are missing that.
They aren't attacking. There's no way to attack a cover. They're stating their honest opinions. Mine is that this is an absolute clusterfuck. The only admirable parts are that you can hear the pain in his voice and that he's not too shitty at guitar, though he can't keep time for shit.
Brian is almost ‘too happy’ in the music he writes today, that it lacks in as much emotion. He’s clearly depressed & struggling from his divorce around this time -I love the interpretation of this song
Saw Gaslight Anthem at reading with Foo Fighters, so this version for me brings back memories of that really and you can see that Brian Fellon is really putting some soul into this. To sum up both versions are great :)
Finally!! some people realise that a cover is not just an exact replication of the original by another artist. This has a completely different feel to it. Awesome!!
the lead singer of one of my favourite bands doing a cover of one of my favourite songs by one of my favourite bands greatest thing that ever happened to the world
I thought this was great. Raw emotion. People are judging this on technical quality and because of this are missing the point. If people judged bob dylan or mick jagger on technical ability they would never have made it so just shut up and listen to his spin on the song and how the lyrics clearly mean something to him.
This guy has more talent in his middle finger than most if not all of you people saying that this is shitty. It's a COVER, not the original song. I think it's a lot cooler when the artist takes a bit of creative freedom with a well-known song and makes it their own. Keep rockin GA, seriously one of the best sounds in music these days.
I love Foo fighters and I love gaslight anthem, and this isn't bad. I went to switch it because the beginning caught me off guard and I couldnt. Real emotion in it, and I find his voice to be pretty captivating here.
To many people clicked on this expecting to see Dave Grohl's rendition of Everlong... It's a cover version, it's supposed to be different and unique. And that's exactly what it is, keep it up Brian.
few people really disliking this, but i think this is rather good. fallon always sounds raw and maybe that doesnt appeal, but his voice is powerful and he gets into the swing of this well. some of his other live performances since Handwritten was released sounded really really flat
Hello I've waited here for you Everlong Tonight, I throw myself into And out of the red Out of her head, she sang Come down and waste away with me Down with me Slow, how you wanted it to be I'm over my head Out of her head, she sang And I wonder When I sing along with you If everything could ever be this real forever If anything could ever be this good again The only thing I'll ever ask of you You've got to promise not to stop when I say when She sang Breathe out So I can breathe you in Hold you in And now I know you've always been Out of your head Out of my head, I sang And I wonder When I sing along with you If everything could ever feel this real forever If anything could ever be this good again The only thing I'll ever ask of you You've got to promise not to stop when I say when She sang And I wonder If everything could ever feel this real forever If anything could ever be this good again The only thing I'll ever ask of you You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
I don't see what everybody is complaining about. I've heard Brian give worse performances acoustic (that's one of the reasons I like Gaslight, he's got a voice that mere mortals like myself can identify with as being normal), and this doesn't sound bad. It sounds like a Gaslight Anthem version of a Foo Fighters song.
Mikey McDowell My problem with it is that in some parts it sounds like he's trying to sound like FF, and in other parts he's trying to make it his own. I don't mind the voice so much, it's the indecisiveness. That said, I like it more than I did when I watched it last year, so it's growing on me a bit.
I think people are forgetting the purpose of a cover.. it's to take a while known song and make it your own. I don't want it to sound like the Foo Fighters. I like the Gaslight Anthem cover
He was asking a justified question and sharing his own opinion, which he is entitled too. Brian is an amazing musician, but the Foo Fighters are HUGE shoes to fill, just because dpotter2113 doesn't like covers doesn't make him ignorant, whether you like the covers or not. Some people just enjoy originals so much that no matter how good a cover is they don't feel like the cover does the song justice. Maybe you should stop being ignorant and shooting someone down for simply sharing their opinion.
this is nice to listen to; ik this is mostly based on opinion but he adds his unique touch to it doesn't make it sound like crap it's listenable it honestly doesn't sound that different from the orig except for the down tune/chord change, and the elements of acoustic covers like adding unnecessary pauses and all; id agree it's not the best cover but its soothing and its a hell of a lot better than that Katy Perry cover he did
why the hate? People haven't even given it a chance. 1.40 onwards, its almost as if Brian wrote this himself. A few off notes, so what, its a great cover once he gets into it. I'd like to see some of you do it better.
Love this guy but bro I'm sorry timings all off and vocals could be alot better in my opinion but I do love u Man U have alot of good music, and I'm sure it could be better if a few things were fixed
Feel like I am one in a few that actually really enjoy this AND the original. Brian creates a new feeling to the song - his outpouring of emotions is so raw and original in his own way. Is this the best thing he's ever done? No. But for fucks sake it's pretty awesome.
Timing off? Not in key? I'm pretty sure a cover is making it your own, which he sure did and I respect it, I don't think there anything wrong with it. If you'd like to listen to the original go ahead no one holding a gun to your head.
As much as I love Gaslight, every cover song, this one included, he just sounds like he's doing a sad Bruce Springsteen impression while playing a melodramatic version of the song. His vocal style perfectly suits Gaslight, but seems forced when applied to the music of others.
Thats very observant of YOU to notice he wasn't wearing a wedding ring. Good job YOU.
+Anthony Miner i love it and it still gets me so sad. i mean the emotional ties that i hold to TGA songs, and seeing him like this, i definitely feel it; but i still cant let up that its a bad cover haha
I love your comment so much. I listened to it again after reading this comment and yup... it’s got a totally different layer to it.
well tbf he could be hungover to know I was alway drunk hungover or deppresed when I listen to his solos
The way Brian covers this, and twists it to fit his style is flawless. And i am personally extremely happy i found this, I think he killed it
Everything Brian touches turns it into pure gold, and this song was already amazing, so you can imagine ;)
Each to their own, if you don't like it fair enough!
I fucking love this version!

Agreed. This version made me appreciate the Foos version more, purely because I'd somewhat missed the profoundness of the lyrics.
Well said! I could never get into Foo for a really long time. This version of the song definitely makes it feel like a completely different song, it feels much more raw and emotional and it ended up making me fall in love with the foo fighters!
Brian absolutely nailed it. It's perfect!
I didn't actually like this at first being a huge Foo Fighters fan but the more I listen to The Gaslight Anthem, the more I start to love Brian's voice and his style. It's not for everyone but it's a song that clearly means a lot to the guy and he's totally put his own spin on it.
I disagree with all the comments, I'm really glad I found this.
agreed
Cant take it away from the man, he is talented, And this is a very good cover.
This may be the best collaboration of a few of my favorite things. In fact, I have Everlong's lyrics tattooed on one arm, with Gaslight Anthem lyrics on the other.
I love Foo Fighters, the only problem I've ever had with them is that it feels too... clean. To me, this is perfection :]

Edward Manning your a piece of shit.
Brian is almost ‘too happy’ in the music he writes today, that it lacks in as much emotion. He’s clearly depressed & struggling from his divorce around this time -I love the interpretation of this song
Love this !! Original take on a great song and with great feeling .
Awesome!!
hes hurting.. guy has one if the greatest voices ever.. pain here is unreal
the lead singer of one of my favourite bands doing a cover of one of my favourite songs by one of my favourite bands
greatest thing that ever happened to the world
My favourite Foo Fighters song. Love this
I thought this was great. Raw emotion. People are judging this on technical quality and because of this are missing the point. This is great cover. Everyone who covers this sounds just like Dave singing. Refreshing to hear a new take.
Gary Stout I think you'd enjoy the Gaslight Anthem cover of Hallelujah if you haven't already found it.
Please no! I love seeing the emotion in his eyes while he's singing.
I don't care that is doesn't sound like the original, that it is not in the same tuning, that it sounds different. To me it is amazing.
To many people clicked on this expecting to see Dave Grohl's rendition of Everlong... It's a cover version, it's supposed to be different and unique. And that's exactly what it is, keep it up Brian.
brilliant. thank you so much for a great cover
This is beautiful !!!
The sun never sets on a badass, bro!
I think that it gets better and better the more u listen to it :)
This is perfect.
Dude, when Dave sings this acoustically it's this same kinda style. This fits the song perfectly.
few people really disliking this, but i think this is rather good. fallon always sounds raw and maybe that doesnt appeal, but his voice is powerful and he gets into the swing of this well. some of his other live performances since Handwritten was released sounded really really flat
Personally I think it's great. Love you Brian!!!!
amazing
Goosebumps. I think we've see a change from punk to rock with TGA.
Compare the Foo fighters acoustic version to this and well that would make more sense....both are really good.
I've seen him live, and he sounds fucking amazing.
such a good cover
Awesome.
Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong
Tonight, I throw myself into
And out of the red
Out of her head, she sang
Come down and waste away with me
Down with me
Slow, how you wanted it to be
I'm over my head
Out of her head, she sang
And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever be this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang
Breathe out
So I can breathe you in
Hold you in
And now
I know you've always been
Out of your head
Out of my head, I sang
And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang
And I wonder
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when

he was hungover from a big night in amsterdam im sure my timing would be out with sunglasses indoors aswell. great tune!
Brian is the best thing to ever happen to Music
this is a nice cover song!
I really like this...I feel like the only one.
this is fucking amazing! so is the original. who cares about comparing two great artists. sit back and enjoy it!
I actually really like this. He makes it sound like a Gaslight song.
such a good cover!!
end of discussion!
I have their album, 'Handwritten.' I really like them.
That voice
sorry dude- probably the only one. i think this is phenomenal.
I think people are forgetting the purpose of a cover.. it's to take a while known song and make it your own. I don't want it to sound like the Foo Fighters. I like the Gaslight Anthem cover
check out Teenage dream by the Horrible Crowes. That is Brian's side project. Incredible
Well said.
Live and breathe Gaslight!
yeaaaa buddy!!!
I've tried to play and sing this song and it's not easy.
In my oppinion a brilliant cover... Brian strips covers right down and you can feel the emotion
Gaslight Anthem hasn't been around for 25 years yet.
I get everyone who's defending this video, I really do. But this cover, in my own opinion, does not do much justice...
Agreed.
Could you upload the here comes my man live ounge video as well please!!!
Maybe you should stop being ignorant and shooting someone down for simply sharing their opinion.
and honestly, when has Brian ever done a cover that has been close to the original? Never because he's creative enough to make it his own.
The last two sentences made me laugh fucking hard man. Well played!
anyone know what tuning he is using in this
he made it his own
The guys got soul unlike 99% of people in music these days. Fallon is the coolest mother fucker out at the moment.
the peaceful and sader version
this is nice to listen to; ik this is mostly based on opinion but he adds his unique touch to it doesn't make it sound like crap it's listenable it honestly doesn't sound that different from the orig except for the down tune/chord change, and the elements of acoustic covers like adding unnecessary pauses and all; id agree it's not the best cover but its soothing and its a hell of a lot better than that Katy Perry cover he did

Don't bands cover pop songs on live lounge, like the kelly clarckson one? Can you post up the other songs they did in this? thanks. Also TGA > FF
I don't think you knew that covers can be in whatever tuning the artist wants it to be.
Awesome good to hear someone do a real cover and not just copy how another brand plays it. Didn't even need to play it in drop d either
I never liked this song as much as I do right now. Damn it, they did it again.
It's cool. Different, but cool.
Love this guy but bro I'm sorry timings all off and vocals could be alot better in my opinion but I do love u Man U have alot of good music, and I'm sure it could be better if a few things were fixed
Brian probably could have done it better on another day. Not as good as the original, but what is? I still love this.
can anyone tab this out. I'm having difficulty
Shocking
The best man on the planet, one of the best dongs ever writen, shame it happened on scummy, hypocritical, evil,l radio 1
Feel like I am one in a few that actually really enjoy this AND the original.
Brian creates a new feeling to the song - his outpouring of emotions is so raw and original in his own way. Is this the best thing he's ever done? No. But for fucks sake it's pretty awesome.
Brian Fallon should be the next king of rock n roll
he's playing alone. doesn't need to be in time.
To each their own I suppose. I like Brian's take on the song
Brian doesn't even know that Everlong is in Drop D...
Are the Foo Fighters a Nirvana cover band?
Hes playing it completely different than David Grohl
One day he's just gonna start singing completely like Tom Waits, i swear.
I expect more of Brian than to be wearing sunglasses indoors.
Timing off? Not in key? I'm pretty sure a cover is making it your own, which he sure did and I respect it, I don't think there anything wrong with it. If you'd like to listen to the original go ahead no one holding a gun to your head.

it's a cover, it's not supposed to be the same as the original-.-
he should wear sunglasses all the time
Its so people cant see him close his eyes on the vocals.
Sure ...
