My whole family moved to Ironbridge in 1969, it was so run down...I think Telford Development did a great job, I have loved living here and seen the changes.
Excellent compilation of footage. Can't understand why anyone would give this the thumbs down, it is fascinating. The area was run down and in need of regeneration but I think they ruined the lovely village of Madeley, they went too far.
During the war, a young boy, an evacuee from London, slid down to the water's edge and skimmed stones into the River Severn just under the Iron Bridge. A young girl was looking down from the roadside. She glanced away for a moment and .in that moment, the boy fell in and was swiftly carried away under the Bridge. His head bobbed up and down as the current gathered pace and swiftly carried him under the Bridge-he drowned. There was nothing anyone could do such was the speed of the current at that point in the River. The little girl was my Mum...
I live just outside Ludlow. We have to go to Telford hospital for any treatment we may need. I’m absolutely terrified of the dual carriageways and roundabouts, the crowds of people and shopping malls. I prefer the fields of sheep, cows, hay and wheat, Thank you. I hope it doesn’t happen here.🐓🐂🐏🐖
Dunno if anyone gives a damn but if you are bored like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all the latest movies on instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my gf during the lockdown :)
What a fantastic film, I lived in 19 Hills Lane Drive, off of Queen street Madeley with Mum and Dad. We moved there in 1964, a great community. Mum continued to live there until 2021, when she moved round the corner to Chillcott Gardens until she passed away in 2022. Do you know of any archive film footage of Hilld Lane Drive?
It think most of it was shot in the 60s just before the regeneration of the area, there are a few clues in the footage. Fascinating to watch.....Ironbridge was the worst area so run down...
I can't take any credit. Its all thanks to Telford Ultimate Guide and Steve Bowers who gave me permission to upload it. I just restored the footage a bit.
Thank you for posting this. I lived in Telford for 35 years before moving to the states. This brought back a flood of memories.

It’s just too big and scary for a Shropshire hillbilly like me, I guess.🐇🐖🐓🌾🐑🐄🤗
I liked the before best.

Ludlow is beautiful. I was there yesterday for a day trip. Beautiful little town. I don't think it will be like Telford.
@@jenniferjones188 Yes, it is. I would never want to live anywhere else.🤗🌹🐄🐑🐖🐇🐓🕊️🌾🌻🌞☘️🍁🍂

Thanks for showing this. Fascinating
Nice one John, I was born in Madeley in 1952 so remember it all well.
Great seeing some old places where my dad used to take us for walks
How to take a piece of Shropshire and turn it into a piece of Wolverhampton. A chunk of Shropshire lost forever. Very sad.

At least in those days you didn't have all the antisocial problems of today in Telford plus the over population and constant house building...
Just searching for anything anywhere for something of my grandad as he sadly passed away 7 days ago
Such beautiful places. But where Smithy Boy at?
Very muich as I remember it in the '60's, peaceful, small communities......avoid the place now.
Fantastic
Thank you :)
Did my underground training at Madeley Wood and Kemberton..
What a great video. Any idea whats year it was shot?
No, sorry.

Would be nice if you could credit Telford Ultimate guide as discussed
The place is like being in a comma

Absolutely nothing from what became the most populous part of the new town. Wellington, Ketley, Hadley, Trench, Donnington, Oakengates and St Georges
Omg priceless
