- The following clip introduces 1 of the 4 basic forward rolls in the Combat Systema approach. Ideal for recovery from arm drag throws, or while falling with long weapons in the hand, the following shoulder roll is a key aspect of our level 5 ground mobility.

Your dedication to producing quality content over a variety of topics over the years is moving. Many things on your channel are overlooked because it's not fancy, but those are technical treasures that a lot of us would struggle to discover after years of training!
I would absolutely love to train with you. Thank you for all your sharing.
Peace and Love Professor
I wish I could train with him, as I suck at rolling and there's so much else I'd like to learn from him, but I neither got the time nor money.
Love your videos! Wish you would include a "table if contents" with the download. I usually make one for myself. Makes it much easier to digest the content, and come back to a specific topic. Always amazed how you can densely pack so much knowledge into a single download
*table OF contents
We did on a few of them. I intend to go back. And do so. Particularly fir the very material. Thanks for the suggestion.
Very valuable instruction. I thank you for it.
Thanks
This is the second of your videos I've watched. You have a new subscriber 🤠
Tony Hedgewolf thank you very much. I hope you enjoy the material.
Great work Kevin, learning everyday
Great vid! Straight to the point no bullshit
Always wanted to know how to do this. Thank you!
same.
I do wonder when to use it. Can I low-sweep attack -> roll -> attack again? The recovery might be slow.
In stunt work if I was diving from very high platforms head first it was much more natural fo me to reach forward and screw with the hands like this. Also with finger and wrist lock throws . You can definitely sweep or do rolling takedowns from it
@@Combatprofessor nice. I'll try experimenting with it. Maybe I can grab their legs after the roll and get a point

How does it translate to a knife? I can see using it for a sword and a gun, but I was taught to always roll with a knife as far away from my rolling direction as possible, so that I don´t accidentally stab myself. Nevertheless, awesome video as always and thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
This is for falls where the arm is already extended forward like off of an arm drag throw. The basic roll, crucifix roll, is exactly as you said, arms in a T position
@@Combatprofessor That makes sense. And it isn't called sword roll for nothing. Thank you for enlighting me. Cheers
Professor, I am a student of Systema. Right now I have a herniated lumbar disc, it’s really making it difficult for me to make the movements in this video. Any advice?
I would strongly suggest basic spinal stability, beginning with neutral spine positions and mindful breath work then slowly towards movement on the three planes of motion . If you get a chance check out the trailers fir level 1 and 2 joint mobility to get some ideas
I would suggest single edged sabers.
Absolutely. Conventionally a shashka
I'm just saying in case a viewer of blunt intellect wants to roll and happens to have a sharp two edged «battle ready vikin' sword» laying around. 😂
zahrim bizarre blunt intellect + sharp sword =Darwin award
@@Combatprofessor 😂😂😂
1. never roll in a sword fight.
Prophet Lew ideally of course not. The Cossack arts simply perform a lot of natural acrobatics with their weaponry to build fitness, familiarity and increase adaptability. The likelihood either of us will find ourselves in a sword fight is a little low but the likelihood we can benefit from increased mobility and body awareness is high.
Youd be surprised how doing something weird or illogical can render your opponents frozen. I imagine this too as most people wouldn't know how to react immediately.
Comedy writers regularly roll with a schtick.
