Brings back many happy memories. She certainly was the Star of the railway at the time. I went on many a train hauled by Evening Star at the time including the Starlight Express. I was even one of the people to jump from the coaches on the return to Bishop's Lydeard to make last orders, the train being slightly too long for the up platform. Memories.
@@westsomersetrailwaytv1212 Have you got film of either of the following please: The triple header all hauled by castles from Bishop's Lydeard? The filming of The Land Girls?
@@westsomersetrailwaytv1212, successful growth of the operations did mean larger locomotives were required, I get that. But a GWR branch line without a little Panier engine loses it's soul. And a little engine would still be useful in low season when 3 carriages trains would be more economical to run. Saying that, I guess we all love the line for different reasons.
Good video pointing out the various changes. Must say I had noticed that 'WAV OUT' sign before at Crowcombe, it's still that way now? Or was for many years. I began coming to the railway in 2004. I'd be interested in knowing why the water towers at Minehead and Williton were removed, and why Crowcombe Dock was removed? Never noticed the different track layouts at Minehead and BL before either. Minehead loops looks far more complicated than now.
It is great to have this classic footage saved for the future.
Agreed.

*THANK YOU BRITISH RAILWAYS FOR PRESERVING 92220!* she is the Queen of BR! Long Live The Queen!
You still had 6412 which to me, was the heart of the branch line, and is still my favourite little engine some 20yrs later.
But was no use for running trains of the required size.

@@peterlinley6520 But uneconomic. Where would the money come from to keep it in traffic?
