My Dad was in the rescue party at the Tangiwai Disaster and he was one of the first people there he was working at Kariori as a forestry worker and was something he never really talked about and once I was on a suburban train from Wellington and an older gentleman sat next told me his girlfriend was in the front carriage of the Tangiwai Disaster train very sad the last thing he remembered was when he kissed her good bye. I can't imagine what happened to her? very sad 😔
I haven’t been able to find that specific film. That aired in 2002 and I think it’s been superseded by very similar more recent docos. I was glad to have this episode of Heroes on my old VHS collection, even though it rides the (allegedly not entirely accurate) Cyril Ellis folklore.
Some scenes were filmed at the Glenbrook Vintage Railway
I’ve seen this footage on nz rail scene 1

Do you have the Heroes episode that featured the EE Unit at Boxhill station?
I don't unfortunately - never seen it!
A really well done episode. Is there any chance the documentary The Truth About Tangiwai is still available to watch?
