    When I was still working, I knit several baby blankets for baby showers. At best, I might have four or five months to do it, between knowing a friend was expecting and the shower date. I really had to plan and schedule and still do all the normal chores, etc. Twenty minutes for each row and 260 rows. Even now that I'm retired, some projects still require scheduling.

    I have organized chaos in my sewing room as I work on a lot of different projects at a time until I get on a roll for a particular project and push that one to a particular stage. Several bins sit out, usually with the next step staged, on surfaces in my sewing room (design wall, design boards, rolling cart, tables) so I can advance whichever one when I feel like doing a particular step (cutting, sewing borders, binding, piecing blocks, planning, etc.) The one thing that isn’t working in this system is quilting. I have several quilts basted and ready to quilt, but I have to make notes of where I am and pack away the other projects, switch threads and reconfigure tables around my machine to do that, and so far they have been sitting for 4 months so going to have to bite that bullet!

    • @lindak5610
      @lindak5610 Месяц назад +2

      I have this same problem. Stopping the piecing long enough to reset everything for quilting. Sometimes I just want simple sewing, but when my machine/room is set for quilting, I sometimes avoid the sewing room. I've got to get this figured out. The basted quilt tops are piling up.

    • @michele6708
      @michele6708 Месяц назад

      @@lindak5610 the struggle is real! 😂 I totally agree, sometimes I just want to feed simple pieces through the machine, sometimes I want to cut, sometimes I want to push through to see the design come together. I have 4 basted quilts waiting for my attention though.

    I love this use of crumb blocks in the Don Quixto pattern. I am also sewing along. The narrow sashing is a great idea but I really do not like the red for the sashing. Maybe a navy or the lime green in the quilt. I think there is not enough red in the scrap blocks to use the red.

    I have a question. I notice that your blocks (an example would be the scrap blocks in your rolling cart) never have any ravels on them. My blocks seem to get ravels. How or what do you do? I try to buy name brand fabric. Maybe I handle them to much. I don't starch. Maybe that could be an option, but I didn't think that you starched. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.

      I don't starch and I don't do anything special. I just cut and sew and press. There are threads. Maybe you are over sensitive to the thread issue? have you looked at friends blocks? taken yoru blocks to a guild meeting or quilt shop and see if they think they are unravelled to much? it is going to happen, Batiks unravel much less, regular cotton all makes threads

    Hi Pat :), I was looking at the crazy block quilt and was thinking might be nice without confining the blocks to a square with solid contrasting sashing. What do you think about making a sashing that allows the eye to flow between the blocks, possibly with crazy piecing. The blocks look like they want to spin.
