It took me this long to realise that just as Bayle first does his laser both times it makes a circle shockwave around his face; his laser literally breaks the sound barrier
Bayle feels like the more dynamic fight, imo. So much of Midir's attacks can be avoided by just walking backwards out of his range. Although with Bayle, if you don't know how to position yourself after dodging it can sometimes be hard to capitalize on the small windows to hit his head. Both are great fights though. I prefer the OST and arena of Bayle as well.

Bro, I came back to point out that the music in phase 2 is perfectly synced with Bayle's attacks. Damn, I've been wanting to see a dragon that fast, aggressive, and really want to kill me, there's an incredible weight to every hit and that sound of falling 11:10 just perfect. It's perfect, your video is perfect! The only thing I regret is that Bayle doesn't have a unique attack on low HP like Midir and Placidusax, that's a big omission.
@@Artem-eu3uv yeah sometimes his music hits so hard it’s crazy. I kinda agree on the ultimate attack, however I understand that they probably didn’t wanna do the same thing again and tbf his overall moveset is already super epic and flashy. Very glad you enjoyed my vid, love to hear that!
@@Veloketh To be honest, I had a few ideas about this. He will have three explosions (like during the transition to the second phase) per fight. The first for 70% HP, the second for 40%, the third for 15%. Each subsequent explosion has a larger radius and damage. After the second explosion, Bayle loses half of his scales, which worsens his defense but significantly increases the power of his attacks. After the third explosion, there are two options: 1)Bayle does a nuke in the place of which a thunder spear appears (like Placidusax's nuke), after which Bayle takes off, flies two circles, feeding the spear with a laser, at the end he breaks the spear, causing a huge explosion. 2)Series of 12 precise pierce wing attacks with hardest timing. Maybe this is a bad idea.
@@Artem-eu3uv sounds insane lmao. It should be an engaging attack to dodge imo, I like placidusax‘ nuke but just running away is kinda lame after the spectacle wears off. So for an explosion I think something like the scadutree avatar beams that come out and have to be dodged would be cool. Or imagine bayle created multiple groundwaves with the spear that you would have to jump or tightly roll (bit like rellana’s moons). I’m also still a huge sucker for big laser beam attacks even if it has done before lmao, so something like the attack from the demon prince from ds3 would be sick as well
Interesting how these two bosses are so different and also so alike. But the key I think is that Bayle is trying desperately to kill you to prove his superiority. While midir is literally in outrage by his curse. Even he attacking without precision shows it. Its like, bayle is your oponent midir is someone you're trying to help.(literally by the lore btw, which i think makes this boss fight the masterpiece it is)
Probably the coolest dragons in gaming. Midir's soundtrack has something that sensitizes me because it seems to me that it perfectly synchronizes with his artistic style/personality and that makes me prefer him just by a hair. It is heavy, dramatic and visceral. Also, Bayle's p2 transition is a work of art. Cinematic af Btw, cool drip, man!🤜🤛
Part of the reason I like Bayle so much more than Midir can be seen in this video alone. Midir disengages constantly and forces the player to spend so much time chasing him down for 1 attack to then disengage and do it again ad infinitum. When Bayle disengages, he immediately flings himself right back into your face, effectively negating any need to chase him because of his hyper aggression. And also thanks to that aggression it’s easier to stay in front of him, because he always repositions to face you. Midir feels like he’s just zoning you, which is fitting sure, but just not as fun to fight as Bayle’s in your face aggression, especially since most of the time Midir is fighting ghosts and occasionally firing in your direction.
Well i didnot really see much of a difference because when bayle disengages and then starts to attack he always do 3-6 combo attacks that you can not punish and he moves his head coñstantly(obviously because he has biting type attacks) Plus bayles laser attacks never hit me once it is quite easy tododge idk why did they make it small
Wtf the problem with bayle is that you can fight him while staying behind him and hitting his tail like a p*ssy. Midir insta punishes you for staying under him or behind him
I don't really summon NPC's for boss fights because it makes the boss stronger, but I gotta summon Igon for that epic dialogue, makes the fight against Bayle even better

@@thetoast9262You fight Gwyn at the Kiln of the First Flame in DS1. The Ringed City-which is directly above Midir's arena is a completely different place. If you buy into the idea that the Kilns in DS1 and DS3 are the same location, albeit displaced by time and space, this is another reason why it cannot be true because you literally have to pass by the Kiln in DS3 in order to get to the Ringed City in the first place.
I love the fight with Midir! But the fight with Bayle I love it even more, and the thing is that Midir is limited in movements and they are very easy to learn, and Bayle constantly moves, flies and demonstrates new movements, plus as it seems to me the design Bayle much better developed, I'm very interested in how long the designers spent on his movements and design. And Midir is closer to the classic dragons.
@@MohamednacerKhelifithe fact that he has consistent punish windows, unlike Midir who runs away a lot. The fact that Bayle has much better visually appealing and engaging attacks, the fact that he's more ferocious and requires more skill, the fact that his OST is miles better, and the fact that he has much better lore and the best NPC (Igon) in Fromsoft history after Solaire
I love how good the flow of Bayle's fight is, and the fact that his head is almost always positioned right in front of you after his attacks so you can punish. I think midir is an S tier fight too, but the only thing I dislike about him is that some of his attacks last very long or move him away from the the player, forcing you to disengage for extended periods of time
true, you don’t really need to chase bayle down, he comes after you and keeps you engaged pretty much all the time. Even some of his easier to avoid attacks like the trail of lightning that follows you is spiced up by him breathing fire in the the direction you go in, trying to trap you or run into it. Feels like an actual intelligent creature
@@Bill_9999even Sif and Artorias felt fast back in the day. It's just that the games are evolving and we're adapting and getting better. Imagine what kind of terrifying beasts await us in future games😅
To me in terms of spectacle or how cool a boss is, I think midir would potentially be a lot closer to Bayle in quality if he had 3 things 1) water splashes that actually highlighted how strong he is Basically I think midir’s water splashes are way too small for what he’s doing, if they were larger and kept their shine it could’ve added a sense of beauty to a dragon that seems like it’s only trying to be badass while also highlighting his strength/scale 2) more unique moveset Bayle can summon fireballs, do lightning nukes, bites, can headbutt, summon lightning, shoot fire breath, shoot a laser, punches you with an exposed arm bone, has a leaping slam, uses tail attacks, has 2 divebombs, a volcano eruption, summons lightning wings and leaps around during many of his attacks. Basically midir has barely any moveset variety compared to Bayle as all he can do is bite, scratch, tail whip, charge, shoot fire, summon humanities, shoot lasers and erupt with abyss And they could’ve easily fixed this too as midir has literal blades on his wings 3) a more impactful phase transition I love the galaxy like effects on midir in phase 2 but he only gains 3 moves when he phase changes plus his arena doesn’t change at all Meanwhile Bayle gains several highly powerful/awesome attacks, also has a changed appearance, sets the whole arena on fire, becomes more aggressive/has better combos, adds more difficulty to the fight, and summons lightning with his punches Even in ds3 itself gael changes the entire skybox in phs 2 and 3 so for midir I assume they just weren’t feeling as ambitious In conclusion, as another comment said perfectly: midir walked so Bayle could fly Edit: btw I do love midir but bayle is just…better, and btw side note but it’s also really strange to me that midir has a reflection in the water but his effects like the laser or humanities don’t
good points, I definitely think Midir could use more variety. I like how primal and angry his melee moves feel but him using his wings like swords would be a really cool addition. I gotta give it to bayle to, the rhythm is incredible and I like that he has combo branchings and cinematic attacks that require more activeness on the players side Some of the stuff like the splashes and reflections might be due to lack of time or technical restraints. But yeah a change of atmosphere would be epic, especially given the abyss theme
@@Veloketh honestly pretty much everything you stated reflects the general consensus that Bayle is just upgraded midir, they used everything they could in what is essentially ds3 but with no restrictions and used that to make perfection, fixing all of midir’s errors by (I assume) using him as sort of a blueprint Maybe one day if ds3 gets remade midir will get closer to Bayle (also the abyss rising from the water in phs 2 would’ve been sick)
I love both but Midir still the best dragon boss fight in the series; still. The only one you actually feel like you are fighting an actual dragon. Midir > Bayle
@@ChihiroOfAstora I think they both accomplish that feeling very well with bayle being a bit more engaging and reactive to your positioning, mixing stuff up to throw you off like a cunning dragon would do. Midir still feels bigger in scale and his build up is very underrated, seeing him fly around outside and being protective of the city is so sick
@@Veloketh But Midir still feels the only dragon boss fight in the entire series. Kalameth had his wing broken and couldn't fly but simply elevate from the ground for a few seconds, Seath was a disabled dragon and didn't fly at all during the boss fight, Sihn did fly a bit but he was a fake Dragon, Ancient Dragon was a true dragon but didn't leave the ground, The Divine Dragon just stands on a rock and Elden Rings dragon's also barely fly, Bayle has his wings broken and can only fly during the second phase in two attacks. Whoever Midir has no "but", he is a massive true dragon that actually behaves like one both before and during the boss fight, and also has the most variety of moves, followed closely by Bayle. It is true that he misses some combos but it's justified from the Lore point the same way Bayle cannot fly at first because he has his wings broken as placidusax defeated him.
@@ChihiroOfAstora ah I get what you mean now. Still, we saw Kalameet and Sinh fly around in their domains as well and Midir only has one flying move, the only other time he uses his wings is when he jumps away to do one of his laser attacks (same as bayle’s jumps). Bayle doesn’t start with (functioning) wings but has three attacks in phase 2 where he flies (the long one that is also the phase transition, the laser/fire attack and the one where he flies up and comes crashing down). The only boss that flies around more (I think) is the demon prince in DS3
I never thought Fromsoft would outdo Midir, and I’m conflicted on whether they accomplished that with Bayle. He’s a real step up in mechanical complexity, aggression, and *brilliant* presentation - and Midir already sets a high bar on that front. But I really wish you could see Bayle as easily as Midir - even in this beautifully executed fight, the camera has to clip inside his skull a few times to keep up. I’ve also never felt like the first of his two laser sweeps is very intuitively telegraphed; with the camera pointed up at him it’s difficult to see the wall of flame headed your way and time your dodge accordingly. I had to just memorize the timing through trial and error. I also wish that his head was always a bit lower to the ground, though maybe that’s a skill issue on my part, albeit never a problem I had with Midir. But most of all, *why,* after dropping you in the middle of a GIGANTIC arena for Midir, would they stick you in a smaller arena for Bayle and open with him lunging at you while you’re right up against the wall? I wanna like Bayle better but these few nitpicks hold him back for me, leaving these two pretty neck and neck for best Fromsoft dragon.
@@gojiraguy200 his arena definitely could’ve been bigger. It’s not an issue when his AI works and he backs off or does his spin around move, but he will occasionally corner you which can happen with Midir too but it’s really rare bc of the huge size. Completely agree on the opening too, the lunging attack and the fire breath are a pain to deal with. I had it happen that I dodged the flames and seconds after that a tiny flame came back from behind me and knocked me over, probably reflected from the wall or a stone on the ground, like why. Out of all the bosses that got scripted openings (messmer, midra) it’s crazy that they let bayle open like that
Oh man I struggled against both of those legendary dragons, while I do prefer Bayle, Midir is also a really great boss, 2nd best dragon boss, & I don’t like Dragon bosses as much as other types of bosses. Also great showcase gameplay for both of them, man you can see just how much FromSoft have evolved, it’s actually crazy! ❤🎉
Going back makes you appreciate the newer and the older bosses, they improved on a lot but the older ones also laid the foundation for the fights we have today. Also facts, I still don’t think bayle and midir even have any competition at this point, excited what they will cook up in the future
I think if placi was in his prime he’d make this duo of peak into a trio but for me his big attacks just don’t make up for how tired and slow he moves, I know why he moves like that but it just makes him less cool to me especially when you look over and see Bayle hopping all over the place while midir charges/flies across his arena in seconds That being said, I think design/spectacle wise midir and placi are roughly equally awesome
placi‘s laser and storm cloud attacks are spectacular but I agree in terms of combat, it’s a letdown even tho the teleportation is a clever solution to his immobility. I despise the constant ground lightning strike attack tho, it’s incredibly tedious to avoid and just drags the fight
@@Veloketh oh yeah his spectacle is great, that’s why I consider him around midir’s level especially with how unique his moveset is, but with how slow he moves he has even less melee variety than midir Also yeah, the lightning attack should only be useable at rlly far range cuz up close it’s pretty boring/lame to dodge
OK I hope I don’t come off as Elden Ring Glazer, yes Consort Radahn isn’t as well designed as Gael or something like Messmer or Rellana, but I will lie to myself if I said Gael’s moveset is better than Consort, it is more balanced yes, but he’s very easy, Consort’s fight is one where you’ll constantly feel very pressured & can (at times) feel unpredictable, plus his phase 2 big attacks are very cool to avoid, the clone attacks look so cool too, his nuke attack is really epic. He has problems though don’t get me wrong. Also his OST is better IMO. Don’t kill me guys. 😭
Is insane how the camera can change everything. Midir is legit far, far more enjoyable thanks to player being able to see everything he does. Bayle, in the contrary, feels even more cinematic and I feel I could enjoy it more... If I could see what is going on!
If you stay as his head the full fight, you will barely have any camera issues. A mistake I saw so many streamers and youtubers making was they kept focusing on his legs because they were so used to doing that with other dragons. However, bayle holds his head at the ground just like midir. Though bayle does sometimes lift his head for a moment right at the end of his combos to mess your timing up
@@christiantarnoski1231 both fights require you to move accordingly to avoid camera issues but Midir is a lot less demanding, you can just walk backwards for most of his moves. Even if you do that with bayle you will get an occasional spin from him like when he jumps over you for a flame breath follow up or you will land under him for a moment when he does the jump attack. It’s still far from bad imo!
@@Damtg77 I feel like Elden ring doesn’t have dragon fights that really encourage hitting the head before bayle, so for an ER only player it might be counter intuitive. However I also saw some self proclaimed DS3 veterans do the exact same while also knowing about Midir‘s mechanics and that just makes me lose my marbles lmao
They’re both really good but I do think Bayles is superior simply because of mixing and sound quality. I mean they hired an entire Orchestra to do the music for Elden Ring that’s gotta make a difference. However Bayles soundtrack just like the boss clearly builds on Midir essentially being a more insane version. So I don’t want to compare them against each other actually They’re both stages in an evolution and I’m so excited to see what comes next! 😃
Rip my immersion 😔 lmao I had a free spot and figured I’d get some more damage bc my astora greatsword only tickles midir on ng+4. it’s also a way to show u didn’t get hit in no hud mode
Looking back at it, Midir just doing his 15 second charge combo twice in a row in his 2nd phase is just lame and unnecessary, like they ran out of moves to give him
@@VelokethI noticed as well while watching your fight with Midir that there were straight up 20-30 second stretches where you were simply watching or chasing him before you could even land a hit Whereas with Bayle, he’s constantly in your face and demands more inputs from you, he’s really just more consistently engaging
@@threemeters1425 you’re right. there’s definitely ways to minmax midir and create more openings to get more hits in but bayle really demands your constant attention
Midir is more peak in my opinion because I love his arena design and his overall character design, But most importantly the soundtrack, I am a die hard fan for opera and midir's track kilt it. Bayle is also great but in my opinion I like midir the most
Valid, I don’t think there’s a wrong choice between the two, it’s just personal preference. Midir‘s OST is great bc it starts with this dance like melody and then goes into this orchestral avalanche style that yuka kitamura does so well. I like bayle’s theme for different reasons, it’s less melodic and more snappy and aggro with this bombastic escalation in phase 2 that make for really cool syncs with his attacks
@@velhokala8456 it’s not my favorite but whenever think of Midir that phase 1 melody instantly comes to mind and it feels great to listen to while fighting him. I’m a bit split on this, there’s certainly similar sounding tracks, the most insane example imo isn’t even in DS3 alone but the OST for lady maria and the twin princes which have basically the same chorus I believe. However ds3 still gave me some of my all time favorite tracks (spear of the church, yhorm, twin princes,…) and I can tell most of them apart pretty well on a blind listen. I wish the music was recorded like BB and ER tho and in general I prefer the variety of composers like shoi miyazawa for future games
Not only is Midir more enjoyable. But he is also harder. We live in a world of guides. Everyone know about Gwyn Parry and everyone knows about head punching Midir. However Midir is a MENACE who only takes descent damage from the head. So it was a super hard fight as a Sunbro cause hosts would eat all the fire going for the legs. Meanwhile BAYLE has a regular damage body and EVEN A WEAK SPOT ON THE LEFT LEG! So as a “let me solo player” BAYLE has been giving me a lot more successful cooperation runs and all around is a super fun fight as a “raid boss”. While Midir was built for that 10/10 1v1 fight!

@@josetomascamposrobledano4618 on a fundamental level Bayle is harder, there are far less openings to attack the head, his combos are longer and more varied, his laser attacks are harder to dodge and he has more volatile AOEs.
What? Midir harder?? How??? Do you see in the video how he effortlessly avoids that mega combo by just walking backwards and gets a big opening for free? How that hard? Bayle is actually way better at killing you: He has Mega combos, little openings and hits VERY hard + Every other Attack is a NUKE! I think it just boiled down to you having improved at fighting dragons since Midir. I got pretty good fighting dragons Head on in Elden Ring so Midir was a cake walk: Third try. Just because people back in the day where too stupid to fight a dragon at the head doesn’t mean he’s hard cause he isn’t when you do. Some people still won’t hit a dragons head even though you can even see how it’s done in the ER trailer. The reason I can imagine you found Bayle easy is cause Elden Ring just gives you so many more ways to deal with everything. Bro If you’re Scadu 20, use a weapon that literally does about double damage to Bayle and an overpowered drake Warrior who break his stance on his own Yes then it might be an easier time than inexperienced you trying to hit Midirs legs 5 years ago. This however does not make him an easier boss, it just means you have grown and that’s great! But Bayle absolutely has the more dangerous moveset and at least for me He’s the most Badass, hardest and Best dragon fights in any game EVER!
Is it just me or is Midir's fight much better than facing him multiple times? I helped a lot of people with Bayle, and even though I know his move set, I have no desire to face him again. To this day I'm still looking for the one that has difficulty in Midir, and that I played on PS4, because I never get tired of the fight.
It is the opposite for me. Midir became less enjoyable over time, whereas for bayle, I can't get enough of him. I'm just not fond of all the running around you have to do in midir's fight as he does some of his longer combos. Both are still S tier bosses though

Btw, cool drip, man!🤜🤛
ey thanks, glad you enjoyed the fashion souls
Midir was elden beast before elden beast was something
Well i didnot really see much of a difference because when bayle disengages and then starts to attack he always do 3-6 combo attacks that you can not punish and he moves his head coñstantly(obviously because he has biting type attacks)
Plus bayles laser attacks never hit me once it is quite easy tododge idk why did they make it small

@@MohamednacerKhelifisorry I don't speak skill issue
To me in terms of spectacle or how cool a boss is, I think midir would potentially be a lot closer to Bayle in quality if he had 3 things
1) water splashes that actually highlighted how strong he is
Basically I think midir’s water splashes are way too small for what he’s doing, if they were larger and kept their shine it could’ve added a sense of beauty to a dragon that seems like it’s only trying to be badass while also highlighting his strength/scale
2) more unique moveset
Bayle can summon fireballs, do lightning nukes, bites, can headbutt, summon lightning, shoot fire breath, shoot a laser, punches you with an exposed arm bone, has a leaping slam, uses tail attacks, has 2 divebombs, a volcano eruption, summons lightning wings and leaps around during many of his attacks. Basically midir has barely any moveset variety compared to Bayle as all he can do is bite, scratch, tail whip, charge, shoot fire, summon humanities, shoot lasers and erupt with abyss
And they could’ve easily fixed this too as midir has literal blades on his wings
3) a more impactful phase transition
I love the galaxy like effects on midir in phase 2 but he only gains 3 moves when he phase changes plus his arena doesn’t change at all
Meanwhile Bayle gains several highly powerful/awesome attacks, also has a changed appearance, sets the whole arena on fire, becomes more aggressive/has better combos, adds more difficulty to the fight, and summons lightning with his punches
Even in ds3 itself gael changes the entire skybox in phs 2 and 3 so for midir I assume they just weren’t feeling as ambitious
In conclusion, as another comment said perfectly: midir walked so Bayle could fly
Edit: btw I do love midir but bayle is just…better, and btw side note but it’s also really strange to me that midir has a reflection in the water but his effects like the laser or humanities don’t
good points, I definitely think Midir could use more variety. I like how primal and angry his melee moves feel but him using his wings like swords would be a really cool addition. I gotta give it to bayle to, the rhythm is incredible and I like that he has combo branchings and cinematic attacks that require more activeness on the players side
Some of the stuff like the splashes and reflections might be due to lack of time or technical restraints. But yeah a change of atmosphere would be epic, especially given the abyss theme
@@Veloketh honestly pretty much everything you stated reflects the general consensus that Bayle is just upgraded midir, they used everything they could in what is essentially ds3 but with no restrictions and used that to make perfection, fixing all of midir’s errors by (I assume) using him as sort of a blueprint
Maybe one day if ds3 gets remade midir will get closer to Bayle (also the abyss rising from the water in phs 2 would’ve been sick)
