Skeleton dialed watches may not be to the taste of everyone and a watch over 4k may not either. This watch is not for you and thats ok. It's also ok to merit the accomplishment and effort put into something not to one's liking or out of one's price bracket.
This is a well made and proper watch. It may not have the Omega or other big brand name but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good watch. What they accomplished, well finished movement, nicely finished Ti case, in-house chronometer certified movement, and a microadjust ON A BUTTERFLY clasp... for under 5k? Lets give them credit. I had a Zenith Defy Skeleton that cost several K more and it didnt have a microadjust.
Great accomplishments CW. C60, Bel Canto, The 12, Moonglow, I'm looking foward to see what you do next!
And a 5 day power reserve for under $5k is impressive. Oris’s cal 400 has it as well, but there’s barely any finishing on it. Am I gonna buy this watch? No, but I think it offers some good features for under 5k
Too few people are aquatinted with the phrase "it's not for me"
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. This is a purely emotional hobby. CW’s Mike France has been quoted saying, “no watch should sell for more than three times the cost of the watch.”
To all those saying, “this watch isn’t worth $5k.” Please finish that sentence with, “to me.”
I think a lot of the comments are missing the point. This is an example of Christopher wards technical prowess. Proof they can produce a case at least the same quality as the big boys. A bracelet with innovations other manufacturers don’t have (an adjustable butterfly) and a visual showcase for their in house movement. This is a halo product that shows what they can do. They will sell every one of them and it will be compared to watches 5x the price specification and finishing wise. Those saying it isn’t “worth” 4k are missing the point that they are happily paying more for watches with a lower technical quality but a “name”
I'd be interested if they used a regular dial (not skeleton) and kept the thickness to 9mm/10mm like the OG. But the bracelet upgrades are very nice updates, as is the Grade 5 Ti bezel. I hope those later upgrades make their way onto the standard Ti Twelve.
Give us the same micro adjust for the regular Twelve even if the bracelet would be more expensive.
Mike France confirmed this in the presentation earlier this week 👍. It's coming.
I'll be getting one for sure.
I was already looking at a twelve and with the micro adjust it’ll be almost irresistible
the new 38mm Twelve's have the micro adjust!
@@TylerC_ well spotted. Fingers crossed these end up on the 36 and 40 mm versions asap. Holding off buying one until then
machine finished but priced higher than the hand finished limited C60 concept.. xD
inflation prolly killed CW
it's a money grab: recycled the same blueprints from the C60 concept and the twelve into a mass production model. Can't even argue value on this one (which was supposed to be tradeoff for having a meh brand name), since you can get zenith defy (new old stock, previous model), and the oris skeletons for the same price
mostly taking advantage of youtubers to hype this release to the moon
Absolutely beautiful ❤
Very nice, I have never been a fan of skeletonized watches. They look incomplete to me. That's just my opinion. If I would buy one it would be a zenith though. $10-$20 grand no way lol. Its nice but in know way that price regardless of who made it.
Not for me but a beautiful watch. Really love the lume shot!
Lume is incredible probably the best I've seen on a skeletonized watch. Thanks for the comment!
Love it
Baumer & Mercier Rivera Underrated
Your first like 😱😀.
So, I’m trying really hard to be nice to this watch! The AP Royal Oak/ GP Laureato bracelet-case looks very well executed and finished. I’d have to see it in person but that bracelet looks outstanding! The micro adjustments on the butterfly clasp are super sweet!
It’s not easy to make a Skeletonized watch that doesn’t look like an awful, cheap Chinese watch! This isn’t as good looking as the Oris Pro Pilot X skeleton IMO but the Oris costs allot more and it’s 44mm (Booo Oris). This size is tenable for my wrist unlike the Oris.
That CW signature on the rotor is absolutely hideous & makes the beautiful Watch look super cheap & tacky!!
Titanium isn’t crazy hard to work with but it’s much harder to work with than steel. Grade 5 isn’t a super high grade Ti but it’s very strong and overall excellent unless you need extreme corrosion resistance.
If I was in the market I’d buy it if I could get it without that awful CW sig. on the rotor!
It's a nice watch, but I have a couple skeletonized watches I never wear already and that's enough for me.
Seems expensive to me (as others have said), but maybe I just don't place appropriate value on the work involved?
Other people might really dig this and I'll leave it to them.
But, my gut feeling is that maybe CW is getting ahead of themselves? Overreaching?
Having said that, I passed on the Bel Canto as well. Loved that watch but realistically I'd never wear it!
This is the same sentiment X2!!!
I'm a big Zenith fanboy but If take this CW I'd it was in looks alone. I think it achieved a much more cohesive and industrial design than Zenith's skeleton Defy Classic, and somehow they've still made it legible and usable at a watch - I can actually tell the time with it, which I struggled to do with a Defy ! I don't normally like skeletons because of the legibility issue, but CW have solved this and made a skeleton that I could actually see myself buying. Too job, CW 👍😁
I’m also a huge Zenith fanboy for life(except for some of those horrific things they made in the 90’s).😂
You could say Zenith has been resting on their laurels for a LONG time with the El Primero but it’s one of the greatest calibers EVER made!
Lots of skeleton watches look cheap as absolute fuck! The Oris is beautiful and the power reserve is incredible but fuk 44mm.
You kinda hit the nail on the head with the inherent problem with many skeleton watches…LEGIBILITY!😱😱.
I would buy this watch if I liked Skeletons but not with that cheap looking CW signature on the rotor.
The Bel Canto is the CW watch for me.
The thing i don't like about the zenith skeleton that i think this CW does much better.... is the zenith has a lattice structure that traverses the entire dial from one side to the other. The CW doesn't do that and has things hanging from support structures that attach mostly to one side of the dial. Therfore the CW has a more open skeleton feel and produces a better feeling of pieces being suspended in mid air. The CW just looks cleaner and cooler to me over the zenith
BUNCH of guys in my local watch groups will get one. Only seen one other Horage Supersede in the wild & that's how i like it.
It's a pretty damn nice watch. However.. at $4865 USD on the bracelet, that's a bit ambitious. On a lower luxury tier, it's kind of how I (we) feel about the new IWC Ingenieur pricing at well over $10k. They're both a wee bit more than we'd expect and hope to pay for brand new. IDK?.. maybe it's fair pricing?.. but, I think it'll be hard sell and there will be a lot of "...I think I'd rather buy this other watch instead for that kind of money..."
And, at 41mm with an integrated bracelet style watch, it will wear bigger than a normal 41mm watch would.. I'd say approximately at least 2mm more.. which for my 7" wrist ain't so great.
Good for those who have at least 7.5"+ larger wrists and large budget for such a watch.
For 3k$ less, get the new zelos very similar look also titanium
Even the Mirage 8 day was cheaper than this. Crazy.
@@AnthonyLauder It's $4865 usd? The Mirage is $8900.
@@NK-ot5tc no it isn't. The Mirage was $3900. Or for an extra fancy one it was $4900. There was a special edition where the case is made out of sapphire which cost $8900, but none of the metal case versions were anywhere near that.
How do you compare this to the Zenith Defy Classic skeleton?
You don't. No sane human would pick this over a Defy. CW have lost it.
Aesthetically, i like my Defy skeleton than the CW but the lume, power reserve on the CW is insane plus it has micro adjustment on the bracelet.
The Zenith Defy classic Skeleton has a very strange design aesthetic but I’d rock it all week long! The little bump to 60 hours of power reserve is nice. I wish it had 80+.😱
If Oris made the Pro Pilot X Skeleton in 39-41mm I’d have it on my wrist right now. 44mm is a hard pass!😭10 days of power reserve with a skeleton that good looking is sick but the size sucks balls.
JomaShop has the Zenith on sale right now for $8k new. If you can afford it I’d buy it now. It’s steel not titanium but it’s a Zenith. 💪
@@stevemoon2136let’s be honest, most skeletons at any price point are cheap as fuk/tacky looking!!! They mostly look like garbage Chinese watches. The Oris has amazing power reserve and it’s good looking but the size is absolutely ass!
The CW signature on the rotor is hideous!
The Zenith design is strange but it’s a bloody Zenith.😀😀
I’m a Zenith fanboy and even Zenith fuks up! The skeletonized, titanium Defy El Primero 21 would be in my collection if it was 40mm instead of 44mm.
Good luck with your watch journey and don’t ever compromise when your spending over $300! Seriously.
Black seconds hand doesn't work and (again) no lume...also I wish indixes tobe bit longer. Overall backside looks much better then a face.
I really liked the effect...the hand was very visible in the dark, like a notch marker moving along the surrounding circular lume to show the seconds. Granted, if you're middle-aged or straight-up nearly dead then your eyesight probably won't be up to it. 😁
Very cool .
Very cool, very impressive. Not a lot else like this with this level of specification and quality, but the fact the competition is from Zenith does make it a hard sell.
You mean the zenith at twice the price? Lol
Yes very impressive design!
They could have done the whole thing in Titanium grade 5 or 23 grade, 2-3 scratches just by looking at it. I'm not a fan of CW but this is okay if you like skeleton watches. 5K is a lot I rather get the new Tudor monochrome now that's hot for less a one and done!
Dinner dish, it's a issue with the integrated bracelet LTL 54 mm you need 8 inch wrist, no sense
Can you elaborate please?😀🇺🇸
@@ryanjofrehe’s under the persuasion that the watch is too large
@@georged822 Apparently multiple people in the comments think this watch is 54mm🤣🤣🤣! He said it’s 41mm but wears like a 42.😁
@@ryanjofre lug to lug its 54mm.
I almost spit out my drink when i got the email, opened the link, and saw the price. If they made it in steel and for like $2500-$3k, id be in
Never been much of a fan of skeletonized watches primarily because they typically lack easy readability, a major priority for me. Have to say, however, tha design choices, especially the bright hands over the darker inner workings and overall depth make reading the watch a breeze. Kudos to CW, one of my favorite brands.
Looks great. Just not a 4k£ watch.
Nearly $5 000 ... You could have many good second hand watches at this price range, as a Zenith Defy for example. I really like CW's job, but this one will not be for me.
Yeah but then you’d have to wear a Zenith Defy…
Why not just wait till you can get this pre-owned for like 2.5-3k?
It looks cool, but I’d just love to see the regular twelves get that bracelet.
It's being rolled out...just don't buy one today!
Nice review! CW is so much better at product development and marketing than its microbrand competitors that it is hardly a contest. Even Tudor and Omega could learn a lot about how to develop and roll out new watches from CW. I have owned three CWs and respect the brand deeply even though I have moved upmarket from their watches. As usual, this watch is a screaming deal, despite some critics who contend otherwise. Will I bite? Maybe. Love the monotone, lack of date and branding, the braclet, the modest use of polish, and the size. The real question for me is do I want a skeleton on my wrist? I like exhibition casebacks, but exhibition case fronts are a bigger step. Fortunately, they will be at the Windup Watch Fair in San Francisco in five days -- so I can try one in the metal. Worth attending the fair just for this!
CW make very good watches but I have never been able to get into skeleton watches.
Not paying 5k for a Christopher ward, you can pay 6k for a zenith defy skeleton
Tried on a Zenith recently beautiful watch.
I was like “That’s one heck of a good looking watch!” when I first looked at the photos online, and then I quickly closed the browser seeing the 5k price tag…
Came here to say this, then saw your comment. :D
I have many Zenith as well, but for this price its very nice.. Its a limited model as well..
A zenith defy classic is $7500. New model is over $11k. I don't know where people are pulling these numbers from unless you want a nasty used watch
I think this looks outstanding! This is coming from someone who doesn’t usually go for skeletonized dials. CW managed to create contrast and decent legibility.
I'm the same, not a huge fan of skeleton dials but this is well done. Thanks for the comment
Nice watch and like what CW is doing, however their pricing on this is a bit off. Would have done much better at $3699
👍👍👍 Ascension Watch , Nice Watch , Elegant best Review by Watch Expert - Watch Chris 👍👍👍
I already have a 12. Maybe I need a 24...
Priced more than the Bel Canto but only skeletonized and reserve power increase. Don't think it's worth the value to be honest.
If it was 20-25% more than the existing titanium twelve then perhaps it'll be a hit, but 220% ain't exactly what customers are looking for 😅
I agree that this watch isn't nearly as good of a deal as the Bel Canto, but I don't necessarily think that makes it a bad deal or not worth the value. The bel canto is one of the most explosive successes in all of "affordable" watchmaking and is continuing to sell out faster than they can produce them, with their limited releases always having wait lists. This twelve is a non-limited watch so the pricing structure is going to be different, and I think that is somewhat fair. From a subjective point of view, I agree with you, I'm not going to be racing to CW to buy this watch, but I think it will be interesting to see how these sell, I have a feeling there will be a definite market for it.
If I have to pay this price simply cos of the increased reserve power from the double barrel "in house" SH21 movement and the micro adjustment, I'd rather buy the Bel Canto and wait for it even if it has a waiting list.
The SH21 isn't a new movement, I believe CW used it before in their C63 concept a while back (please correct me if I'm wrong). If the price is simply reflecting the "in house" movement and micro adjustment on the bracelet, where everything else is the same as the titanium 12, then the 220% price is overpriced in my opinion.
I agree some may still purchase this watch but I doubt it'll be a hit as the Bel Canto which they priced in similar pricing.
Eventually the micro adjustment on the bracelet will be available for the other CW 12 models. I just don't see how the difference in movement can justify for the price difference 😅
The Bel Canto is a wonderful watch, but remember, the movement is a base Selita, and they added to it. This watch features a fully in-house which has been reworked for this model. That adds to cost. If it's not for you, it's not for you. Doesn't mean this isn't a good watch, but it's a good watch, not for you... for whatever reason.
I agree it's a good watch, just the pricing is too aggressive, as others have also pointed.
Movements usually accounts for about 70% of the watch price, considering the CW12 in titanium is around 2000 USD, this means that apart from the movement everything else is only 600 USD worth. Even if selita movement was used and cost is cheaper, let's say the other components actually cost 1000 USD altogether, is the SH21 movement currently worth 3500 USD as CW priced it at, considering the retail price of this watch is about 4500 USD?
Bel Canto, though it's selita movement, but the functionality as a chime watch and the technical difficulty involved is more than a skeletonized watch with 120-hour power reserve. Hence even with the pricing, people are still willing to buy it and be on the waiting list till it is mass produced.
This is what I mean this watch is overpriced. If it was priced at 3000-3500 USD it makes more sense, but at 4500 I really doubt CW will get the number of purchases they hope to achieve.
Ermmm no this is exactly what I’m looking for, I’ve never heard of CW and I pre-ordered today after finding out about this watch. I see this as a Cartier/Rolex competitor, so in my eyes it’s got a HEAVY discount and looks better than some of my favourite Cartier’s/rolexes
5 grand though?
I dont know I am not too impressed. The best thing about the watch is the 120 hr power reseve
Thanks for the comment
I'd like a 38mm version of this
Dont think the movement will allow it
yeha i'd take even a 40, but they lost me when I heard the dimensions. Unfortunatelly that seems to be the smallest the cal. allowes...
I’ll think about it if they make a 38mm
I have a feeling this isnt going to sell well. Too expensive for a brand that is basically putting out a Zenith Defy for like $1000 less. Most are going to go with Zenith
Huh? A zenith defy is twice the price.
@@RadixRill if you're paying full price, sure.
@@jaer.6540 so you're comparing the price of a new, authorized CW with a used or grey market zenith. Got it
Good review. I don't have a dog in the race, but the watch looks rather bland, uninspiring, and dare I say, basic.
Still, wear what you like.
you’re literally my comfort person i love you #nkuwan !
After perusing the comments about this watch and about CW themselves, I just have to laugh.. People are comparing it to Zenith, or other brands etc and how its not worth the money blah blah.. I own a ton of watches and quite a few from all the majors (Rolex, Omega, Panerai many Zenith models and I could go on for another few sentences) but I also own a shit ton of CW watches as well.. Most around the $1k mark and a bunch of their limited ones as well (that are obviously more $$).. They make a GREAT watch even if you take the price out of it.. My Zenith Defy skeleton pre owned was twice this price and has some cool features but I wouldn't say its twice as good. If you're into collecting like myself an many others, these unique watches are very collectable unlike a Rolex that it seems everyone has (not to mention that its THE most faked watch in existence). If this watch was over $10k then yes I would agree that its overpriced.. Its not and its a limited model.. The Chinese won't bother to make a fake and I'll guarantee you'll never see another one unless you go to a CW fanboy festival:) If its not for you don't buy it, but appreciate the quality and the fact that a company which in my opinion is still a microbrand actually made it (like the Bel Canto). And one last note, I own a ton of major Swiss made watches and if you think they are actually worth what you pay retail you're nuts.. Ever buy a Louis Vuitton for your girl? Most of their bags are made of vinyl for god's sake and are not worth it either, but we still get them because its a luxury item and it makes the women happy that they have one..
You can get a used zenith defy skeleton for less than this and that is better looking imho
I’m not a fan of skeleton watches but this thing is cool. A bit too pricey if you ask me. I patiently await the Twelve HSU this year 😁😉
It doesnt have that WOW effect like other skeleton watch
Hey thanks for the comment!!! I think that depends on what you're looking for in a skeletonized watch. For some people maybe not very exciting, some people might find this to be exactly what they're looking for... I like this a lot but that's me!!!
This is a great advertisement for Zenith in my opinion. Why would anyone buy this over a Defy !?
The zenith defy skyline skeleton costs around $12,000 and is in stainless steel without micro adjust in the bracelet.
Defy Classic skeleton is about $5k in market value and in grade 5 ti
@@eddielluisma9109I believe the defy classic was grade 2 ti but still no micro adjust less power reserve and you are comparing used/grey market vs new prices which isn't apples to apples. Also 5k would be on a strap not a bracelet unless buying used even then 5k would be hard
@@WatchChris I can confirm the Zenith is a grade 5 and you are right about brand new vs preowned but i can argue that at $5k, the Defy Classic Skeleton is very compelling compared to the CW.
I’m a big fan of Christopher ward but I just don’t like how this watch looks at all
Do case backs scratch?
Do people care if it does?
Wow.
I feel the same thanks for the comment !!
I like the bracelet, but that rubber strap looks awful.
Nice watch but not 5k nice.
Thanks for the comment! There isn't really anything out there that looks like this, with an inhouse movement, all of the high end materials and under 5k....
Thanks for the comment! This is in the ballpark for what CW have charged before for the SH21. I believe CW have a specific pricing structure they apply to all watch pricing...
And why is it called the Twelve X? Shouldn't it be Twelve XII?
Hard pass for me, and I own the 2892 titanium one.
Christopher Ward is killin it, but this is pretty boring skeletonization. Nothing pops. Weird design, although I’m sure it’s quite nice in person.
Thanks for the comment!
In person it looks very well executed thanks for the comment!!!
Imagine telling, well, almost anyone really, that you didn't buy an expensive luxury watch, just this thrifty $5,000 one 😂
Why does this video feel like shopping tv channel?
Far too expensive... For a Bel canto it's ok, but not for this...
Beautiful watch for the big wristed community
Looks as cheap as something offered to you from the inside of a coat in a train station in Naples😂 I'd take the Tissot PRX Automatic it seeks to imitate any day
Your wrist is 7.5 inch ?
Did you said LTL 54 mm ?
The case is a 40mm L2L. All he’s saying is that the bracelet doesn’t articulate from the case at a 90 degree angle. It’s not going to wear like a 54mm lug to lug, but it will certainly wear larger than the 41mm diameter suggests.
Not my style but I appreciate CW challenging the establishment and wish them the best.
Almost 5k.
For an entirely machine finished watch.
And the ugliest automatic rotor in horology history.
Interesting
Sorry but this isn't worth almost 5 grand. Its just not
I’m taking the Bel Canto over this any day. At least I get a cool complication that you can’t get anywhere else for the price. Skeletonized movements are overrated IMO.
@@MattSeesGraySkeleton movements are just cheap looking with few exceptions. The Bel Canto is a better looking watch with an awesome complication.
@@MattSeesGray & you'll get a pristine limited edition OG verde/azzurro for close to £5k on the grey market with a bit of haggling.
@ryanjofre Agreed the movement looks cheap.
I hate to agree…but, to me, the Bel Canto is superior and less money. That’s just my gut reaction.
I have a feeling that this is a watch you need to see in-person/in the metal and given CW’s online nature that’s just not possible.
who in their right mind would spend Omega money on a CW?
Very expensive. For the price there are better options like Tudor, Breitling etc.
Honestly speaking as a Tudor owner and former Breitling owner, they aren't making watches like this. Tudor, yes you can get a BB, which is a standard sports watch. I would argue that people interested in this watch either have a Tudor or similar and looking for something different and not the standard BB style watch. Also Breitling is pretty much the same thing. One can get an Avenger or Superocean, but again I would argue that this watch is for someone who either has something similar and looking for something new. Also, those Brieling's have very basic movements, but still charge 4 and 5K for it. And good luck finding a Breitling with a B01 movement for under 5k, used or otherwise.
This watch may not be for the general watch consumer or for someone looking into luxury for the first time. CW doesn't have brand equity. If Omega, Rolex, Tudor or any other known watch brand made this watch 90% of folks on here would lose their minds and drop the funds with little hesitation. I get it, but in 10 years from now I'm very interested to see what CW can and will do.
Ese ese quiero
Imagine paying 5 k for a Christoper Ward, when you can have a Zenith or Tudor or an Omega, lmao. There is one positive of this release though, they moved that horrible brand name to the caseback.
It’s hideous… Skeletonized watches look awful in general… It’s a niche market and I don’t understand that niche… Put a mother of pearl dial on it with nicely finished multifaceted nicely finished indices and then you’ve got a nice looking watch.
Not my cup of tea, neither visually nor price-perspectively….
nothing special and quite overpriced tbh
Its def not for everyone... Thanks for the Comment!
The CW “marketing budget” is strong with this review.
Not sponsored at all.
I got an email from CW today - thought what a great watch - then saw the price!! Errr not a hope in hell - I genuinely laughed........ as many have said just too many better choices.
It’s a cool watch but overpriced. So many better options for this buck
Too expensive, too big and as I find all skeletonized watches, too ugly. I do like the 36mm twelve.
Way too much for a watch like this.
Waaaay to pricey for a CW. There’s soooo many watches that are better buys at $5k than this. CW def jumped out of their lane on this one.
They jumped out of their lane with the Bel Canto too...that went pretty well for them.
@@ph8077 The Bel Canto was a MUCH more justifiable price for what you're getting. Hell....it's a superior complication and priced well below this. Very possible this does well for them....who knows. But as a potential customer for watches in this price range....there are several others I would look at before I even thought of giving this one consideration. I just think they've priced it to high....the watch itself looks decent.
I thought this was cheap af, I’m seriously thinking about pre-ordering. There’s definitely no watch better than this at this price point imo, what would you get instead?
Far too expensive
This is a hard pass for me. It looks cheap, Christopher Ward is now releasing too many new watches at the wrong price point. The design and looks just feels like it's a Aliexpress chinese skeleton watch retailing at $400. If I really want a Skeleton of this kind. I would save a little more and get a Used Zenith DEFY Skeleton. 3-4k more than this CW Twelve X. Look at the spacing on the bracelet jeez.
Lmao this is a joke. Not a king by any means. I will stick to my Zenith Defy skeleton. This is not worth 5k. Not even close to that. Not to mention their crappy post sales service.
It's a nice watch, just obscenely expensive for what it is. Not sure why CW choose to do this because it kills the value proposition.
It’s nice watch. It’s way overpriced. You’re creeping on Defy territory. Would never pick this over a Defy.
Nordquain independence 42 skeleton... Robust SW200-1 with shock absorber
That's literally one of the cheapest and worst Swiss movements to exist.
"this looks like a watch that could cost 10K or 20K", hmmm i didn't know blind people did watch reviews......
Ah yes the watch i never knew i wanted. And now know that i dont.
Just a wannabe Zenith defy skeleton.
This might be the first CW that I throughly admire. But the price is obnoxious.
Id much rather have precious metals or diamonds than skeletonized movements. Still wish cw well with this release, just not my cup of tea
Nothing about that movement that makes me want to look at it. The barrels and springs are especially not attractive in this layout. Not sure why they are showing off this very crude looking movement. For the price, there are so many better options.
Way too expensive. The price doesn't match the finishing of the parts inside the dial. I see some rough edges and either dirt or inconsistent brushing in the gears. The Bel Canto looks much more interesting to me.
