      The Incarnate knocks down the enemy as long as the enemy have no physical armour. It doesn't matter which damage the Incarnate does as long as the target have no physical armour.

      Hi! i just recently got the game because of these guides! I'm a bit confused with the party comp. I started with a preset ifan and changed his stats to have a summoner. How do i get the other 4 members to be custom because as ive read you get the preset version in the solo game of the other party members. I'm trying to do your set up of tectonic mage, eternal warrior and cleric. How do i customize the other party members?

      I got a challenge for you as a build idea I love but wonder if you can optimize. I want to see if you can make what I call a Skin Changer class. A summoner warrior hybrid that uses metamorph to deal heavy damage at close range. This is based on both Games of Thrones Skinchangers and Native American legends on skin changes.
      In my experience with the class, I saw they are great frontline units, and found Polymorph a good fit as a number of combat abilities scale with the strength attribute along with warfare that can be just as powerful and broken as bouncing shield.
      Also, maybe something to update in a build, but I found Glass Cannon was great for Druid class to build as it allows you to really overpower a summon by stacking abilities, and add support spells to make the summon a beast. Along with a chameleon cloak to hide from the enemy.

      I have a 2H magic party. a water, a fire, a earth and a lightning dude with 2H weapons with that element to it (maybe it's the mod, never played without) They all have ranged damage en a special role. Earth can fortify, water restoration, fire haste.. They also can all summon an element to fight along their side. It is really easy.

    I generally like to have one "pure" physical character, one "pure" magic character, and two hybrids. It's not perfectly optimized, but you're prepared for anything. You have three people that can attack each enemy's lowest armor type, every time.

    • @sreeravi25

      played divinity 1 and found out this is the best too. Having 1 pure mage and 1 pure melee meant I could use my other 2 characters ( a rougue and a ranger) do stuff that works best for that battle. Rangers have tons of elemental arrows and a rogue can either backstab or debuff the enemies with grenades from range, this complementing either the melee or mage.

    • @vulpixheat2177
      @vulpixheat2177 Год назад +5

      In general in my experience it’s best to have the party all target the same armor type but have for example a ranger with elemental arrows that allows them to target the lower defense or spark striker on a melee so they can spread elemental damage if needed. On top of the obvious give everyone teleport and maybe even a whole bunch of teleport scrolls chameleon cloak cloak and dagger ect. Even vs some of the bulkiest non boss targets for example my shadowblade was able to strip the entirety of one unit’s armor and turn them into a chicken in at minimum 2 turns. For foes with low magic armor I just find it’s best for example to hit them with a bunch of explosive arrows then just petrify them all with Medusa head. Also lone wolf 2 man is very strong too.

      @@sreeravi25 the things is, on divinity 1 there's no CC armor like in divinity 2. You can mix your party however you want and it will still do something. Divinity 2 on other hand, not focusing on 1 armor type will just make your party couldn't do damage well

    Hi mate, Just started playing DSO2. Thank you for making this guide. internet has completly changed the how we access information. • @TheTraveler980
    @TheTraveler980 4 года назад +31

    To summarize the video:
    1.) Do roughly 50% of both physical and magical damage to avoid being stuck in the game.
    2.) DOS2 favors ranged combat, so only have 1 melee character at most, especially if other characters like to use AoE damage.
    2.a.) Use your melee character to protect your other ranged characters, and he also won't be in your allies' AoE attacks.
    3.) Summoning is a must-have skill for any build, since it gives an additional ally and does not rely on other stat boosts to be effective.
    4.) Synergize Earth with Fire, and Water with Electricity if you use two or more magical spell types. However, Fire + Electricity and Water + Earth don't conflict, so those combos can work too.
    5.) Ideal party setup (4-man):
    a.) Juggernaut / Eternal Warrior build
    b.) Ranger with Summoner skill and elemental arrows
    c.) Tectonic Mage
    d.) Crystalline Cleric
    *Bonus:* Lone-Wolf builds (Solo or Duo) typically have Summoner Skill, but the ideal build is up for debate. I suggest 1 character with Summoner, Pyro, and Geo; the other character will have Summoner as well, but with Hydro and Aero. Both characters should also use a shield and wand(s). Matter of fact, it should be easy to invest into every skill up to 2 points so you can function like a Druid though, having two characters who can use both physical and magic damage, especially with a shield that uses a wand or a one-handed weapon.
    *2nd bonus:* Do _NOT_ fret about race. Pick whatever you want, everyone can do everything well enough, the racial bonuses are just nice little buffs but aren't game-changing.

    It's also good to give your ranger the teleport ability. Combined with range increasing buffs, it is perfect for moving other party members, enemies around the battlefield.
    You don't mention rogues, but at higher levels they be incredibly useful, e.g. backstab to jump into combat, followed by sleeping arms / gag order, then cloak and dagger to jump back out (+adrenaline if they need more AP). Or cast chloroform to nuke the target's magic armour, then a charm type spell.

      I'm thinking of giving everyone in my party that ability because of its versatility. Want to group enemies together for a big value AOE cast? Teleport. Want to remove a powerful enemy from play for a while/permanently? Teleport. One of your party members is in the middle of a hazardous place or surrounded by enemies? Teleport

    • @salsaman
      @salsaman 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@MrDgf97 yeah used strategically it can be a battle changer. Pick up a powerful enemy and teleport them into the middle of some lava or down the bottom of a cliff. If you time it right you can even have multiple party members taking it in turns to cast an enemy further and further away. I found teleport useful to an extreme in exploring as well, just have two party members with teleport and have them take it in turns to teleport the other ahead of them. @The_Voluptuary 4 года назад +3

      An explanation of the “Nobody” meme:
      It’s a joke on nobody asking for a certain type of content.
      For example, a person in a classroom standing up and stating that they have the best grade in the class, without anyone having asked them in the first place. It would look like so:
      Nobody:
      Smart Kid: blah blah blah
      It isn’t one of my favourite memes, and it’s awfully overused, but there are some genius instances of it.
      In this case of this video, it works because none of us expected this video so late after all of Fextralife’s Divinity videos over the course of the last year or so. Nobody was asking for it, but it was created nonetheless. The difference in this case is that none of us mind.

    Physical damage is the way to go imo, because it scales with the 3 main stats, Strength=knight or brawler, intelligence=Necromancer and finesse= rogue or ranger, in this way you can also equip most of your party with the best gear for each stat with no competition, and virtually any necromancer, warfare, scoundrel or range spell has AoE friendly damage

    I have been having a lot of success with 2 melee and 2 casters. 2h warfare-morph, 1h shield warfare-geo, necro-cleric, and pyro-geo. I either open up with big damage/aoe pryo skills before my melee characters get engaged, or if that is not possible then I use my pyro to damage any enemy ranged characters. I have a lot of mobility in my party through polymorph, tactical retreat, and teleportation so I can move characters around the battle field if I need to get them out of the way of an aoe spell I want to cast or put them in position to engage an enemy ranged character. It is common for me to take a melee character that is engaged with multiple melee enemies and teleport them away, then follow that up with an aoe spell on the area with the multiple enemies clumped together. Of course, all of this depends on your characters turn orders, spell cooldowns, etc. I always make sure my pyro-geo has plenty of utility spells to assist the party if they cannot lay down damage because the fight is too close quarters.
    Another note: remember you don't have to immediately push your melee characters into combat. You can position them appropriately in front of your ranged characters and just skip their turn until the enemies close the distance. This allows you to bank AP, cast any buffs those characters may have, and allow your ranged aoe spells to do their work until the enemies engage with your melee. the best party is either all go physical or go magical so you can CC your enemy, and the latter suck because enemies had different resistance or even worse, immunity. going physical will always be superior choice because all your party member can contribute their damage to the enemies for melting those armor point, even enemy with physical resistance and high armor.
    Best party IMO is consist of 1 Knight (two handed user), 1 Ranger, 1 Necromancer+Summoner, and 1 Support Mage(get all support magic from all school, max hydrosophist).

  • @asfandyar8119
    @asfandyar8119 4 года назад +2

    My first party was all magic. With 1 summoner+pyro, 1 aerothunge (for fire resistance enemies), 1 healer+jack of all magics except hydro and 1 geomancer. Geo+Pyro is probably the most insane combo. There were some explosions that would cover the ENTIRE battlefield. Was pretty risky but super fun composition. If I ever get to a second full playthrough I would definitely try the aero+hydro combo. Was watching someone's stream and they were basically CCing every enemy with this combo. Oh and the best way to enjoy this game is to have 4 party members and preferably origin characters. The added pressure of saving every member makes the combat more fun and satisfying. Lone wolf is broken especially with chameleon.

And finally Beast whom is our tank.

    While I understand where you are coming from, I believe the usage of fire and water by two different mages can be taken care of, if one of them is using lightning.
    Water on fire causes mist, which can then be electrified with electricity.
    Also, it can be hard for me to imagine -not- having the ability to douse flames on hand, even (or perhaps, especially) if you bring a fire user along. As most players know, things in divinity tend to explode and burn very, -very- often.

    This video really helped me get going with building my party in an effective way. I'm on my 3rd playthrough of the game now and I'm running with a geomancer mage , summoner hydro cleric, eternal warrior, and a spear bow combo ranger. I was running summons on my ranger before but felt that enemy assassins and rangers would focus him down way too hard, so giving him a spear and some warfare skills helped a lot. Swapped the summons onto my cleric cuz I felt that there were many turns where my damaging spells were on cd and I didn't need to heal.

    I recently beat the game using an Eternal Warrior (love that build), Juggernaut (more focused on using Warfare than Earth as it turns out), Ranger with occasional summoning and a Druid with a few extra support and damage spells (Though she spent more time summoning and healing ) and had a lot of fun with it.
    Pretty much all physical, so summoning a Blood Incarnate and Blood Totems was always the aim of the game there. While I didn't use many spells with my Juggernaut, Earthquake was handy on occasion, but more often than not, I tend to pile in on one target at a time.
    Either way, your builds not only helped me to learn the game, and how it works, but also to beat it in the end. Thank you for all your hard work on your content ^^

    A ranger build I made during my solo lone wolf run that is working pretty well for me is Ranger (main), Polymorph (secondary), and Necro for extra survivability. Note like many builds this one really starts to shine on Act II when you have enough levels to have skills in all 3 branches listed here. Basically, you pump out major damage likely killing 1-2 targets at the start of a fight. You go invisible with chameleon at the end of your first turn. Do more damage, then use shackles of pain to keep enemies at bay. Now whereas Chameleon almost guarantees not getting hit for a round, shackles of pain varies. Some enemies will not attack you if it will hurt their ally, some will, and some care so little about themselves that even the guy who is linked to you who will definitely die attacking you still does so. On the plus side it last 2 rounds so in most cases it should severely reduce the damage you take.
    Now here's where the character you choose to play as matters. I personally like Fane as he has a source ability to take a second turn back to back with his previous one. So once your chameleon and chain are on cooldown, you go again to not only increase damage but speed up when you get to use these abilities again. In the meantime you can use ranger abilities like tactical retreat and reactive shot to help keep foes at bay. If you're in desperate need to be practically invulnerable again, there's a polymorph source ability that lets you reset your cooldowns so you can basically make the first 6 turns of each fight where the enemies are just standing around as you pick them off one by one. As a ranger your single target damage should be pretty high so as long as there are 6 enemies or less you should kill them all before you're waiting on cooldowns. Also as any undead, Fane included, you can play dead and reset combat as long as you're not close to where the enemies' original positions (as a ranger this shouldn't be a problem) This is helpful during Fort Joy when you don't have as many survivability skills yet and in a solo run you'll be targeted and CC'd by everyone.
    Another character you can play as that is good, though perhaps not as safe for an Honor run as Fane, is an elf. Flesh sacrifice gives you 1 ap and blood on the ground by you which is basically free elemental arrows and since blood adds physical damage you just start doing more physical damage. Long term this would do more damage than Fane but like I mentioned if you're doing an honor run where your save is deleted when you die, you may want more survivability options than straight-up damage.
    Lastly as put some points into warfare, Huntsman is necessary for skills but the damage output of Warfare is better overall since it's a pure physical damage boost whereas Huntsman only applies to when you're elevated above the enemy. Which you should be when you can but you won't always be. Also Enrage is a great Warfare/Ranger skill as it silences you but Huntsman abilities count as physical attacks and are not silenced. So you can enrage and then make all of your skills guaranteed critical hits. Something fun I like to do by act III is enrage, sneak, assassinate. Depending on what traits you have you can one-shot a target at the start of a fight, do some damage, use Fane's ability to go again and likely kill a 2nd target before the enemy has a chance to go. n_n

    I beat Tactician with a 4-character mixed damage party. Didn’t even have to save scum or reload a save for the vast majority of the playthrough, except with a couple fights forward the very end. Also beat it on Honour Mode, but that was admittedly a two character ‘Lone Wolf’ run focusing on physical damage - because it’s the least resisted by almost every enemy in the game.
    There are many ways to approach (or avoid) almost any fight or encounter in the game. Sure there are optimal builds and some skills are better choices than others…but don’t let that get in your way. It’s a role playing game, not a hardcore turn-based combat simulator. Have fun with it and embrace your creativity.

I killed the red prince cause I can't stand people who think they're better than everyone else. (Yes I know i'm missing a lot by doing that but this is hardly going to be my only playthrough)
    Generally I think it's gonna go like this. My custom. High damage mage with a variety of spells. Primarily summons to tank damage and distract. With some supportive spells. Lohse is my healer and support as well as emergency evac. (Teleport spell or at the back to escape and resurrect the party later.) Beast is gonna be my debuffer and melee. Sebille is going to be my critical hitter. (Still on the fence about what I want her to do though) All will have some means of dealing with both physical and magical armor.

    i disagree with going all in on a single type of elemental damage, IE; oil/pyro, as some enemies are completely immune to certain damage types, especially fire. it's much more effective to have a wide array of elemental types as you never know when you might need to do a different type of elemental damage.

Was unsure what to do with the ranger, and ended up giving her summoning as well, so essentially I have two summoners. Gives me quite a lot of flexibility for choosing which armour type to focus on, as both summoners can essentially choose whether they want to summon a magic or physical damage dealer. I liked this game (as well as the 1st one) and did multiple playthroughs on the hardest difficulty using 2 party members only (Lone Wolf). One of the biggest disappointment I had with the game was how it felt like mixing casters and physical damage dealers really wasn't ideal (and then having to be limited with the caster types as well not to counter one and the other). The other huge issue is that the game difficulty is trivial once you get passed the first part Act 1 if you know what you're doing (my Lone Wolf runs were after it had been nerfed and full party is supposed to be even easier). You can basically AOE down about every encounter before they can even react if you go with casters (which was quite stronger than physical party although physical parties were still easy as well). I even had to reload the last fight several times because one time, I used the broken OP earth AOE and 1 shot the final encounter. The fights become very boring after a while, all you do is position yourself, teleport enemies on top of other ones to clump them up and kill them all in one shot with AOE spells. Divinity OS1 was even worse for that, the first act was a bit more challenging on the hardest difficulty but then once you unlock the strongest spells, you kill everything in 1 shot including the final boss that I've killed in 1 hit. I guess I should have gotten this on computer instead of Xbox One as maybe some mods can make it more challenging, I don't know but it has me worried for Baldur's Gate 3 that it will also be a nice game but turn out boring because of how easy it is if it's like D:OS1/2.
    What I'd tell to new players overall is that the strongest classes early game becomes by far the weakest ones late game (Summoner and Rogue both were very strong in act 1 with Lone wolf, both incredibly weak compared to the others late game). As for Magic party vs physical ones, magic parties overall turn out to be much stronger late game BUT the main difference is that there are several enemies that are resistant or immune to some specific types of magic so you still need to put points into the opposite type for those few encounters or may need to go respecialize for certain parts of the game (I don't want to give spoilers so I won't get into details). Physical parties don't have to deal with that, you can pretty much use the same strategy from the start of the game until the end without any problem.
