A comparison with the Air2 would be great. Would be interesting to see what the real world differences between 12MP and 48MP are. But nevertheless, I ordered the Mini 2, will be my first drone. Was also interested in the Air2, but space in the Lowepro 450 is limited. Tripod, DSLM + lenses..
Two important things reviewers never mention for some reason. 1) how loud and annoying is the noise compared to other drones 2) how far away can you fly it from the operator and be legal; that is, how far away can you keep the drone in visual contact. The smaller the drone the closer it must be. My visual limit for a larger Phantom is about 1200 ft and I imagine the Mini would be maybe a third of that. It would be nice to know since that is very important legally. It's one of the real downsides of a smaller drone.
Hey, not usually write the comments on RUclips, but I really want to say big thank you for the DNG files that you shared with us, great video tho, keep it up!
Hi Billy, When I first started to think about getting a drone in lockdown earlier this year I watched a load of your videos, I started with the Spark and quickly took some qualifications and upgraded to the Zoom, most of this journey for me is self taught through your videos. You give really good insights for people like myself and you’re definitely in my opinion one of the top channels to subscribe to. It would be good to get some detailed editing videos for people like myself, 5 months in to owning a drone, so as I start to master the photography and videography that can I learn from you how to the package it all together. Keep up the good work👍 Jason (UK)
Billy thanks for the review and sharing the files. Its great to be able to see the image quality before purchasing one. I look forward to seeing more of your reviews.
Just picked this up this drone. Unbelievable what that tiny thing can do. Truly changed my flying experience all together and I did not expect that. Thank you for supplying the raw format photos. It helped me decide to pick this baby up. 👍
Thanks for sharing those files! Great to see the actual image quality before buying and not just specs! Any new drones you come across and review it would be helpful to have similar files from them to compare to if you ever get the chance!
I think if you're going to take more professional pictures you should at least invest in the DJI mavic Air 2. A lot more megapixels and dynamic range. And that's what we need. This is still a fun ass little drone though

Always enjoyed your timely videos Billy. More so in this case because I’ve been deliberating on getting started on drone flying, but don’t wish to commit too much money just yet. This Mini 2 is hitting the sweet spot in most areas of concern to me and you’ve helped clarify them for me. Thanks👍👍
Only thing holding me back is the price down here in Australia. Old one is $599 Australian ($799 Fly More) and new one is $749 and $949 for Fly more kit.
Thanks. I'm thinking of gifting this drone to a friend, just to get him involved in the 'hobby/professional world'... the mini 2 is really a good drone obviously. I also wanted to say that watching 1 minute of your videos is like almost 2 minutes of anyone else - your pace is so quick, but you communicate so well what you are talking about. Just my input. I think after two weeks of using it that the fotos are ok, they are not mind-blowing for sure but shotting in raw they can do the job, you can't ask much more to this little drone
Hi, love to watch your videos, they are spot on and no BS. I downloaded two of your photots, the sunset and the Town Hall (?), and tweaked them a little in Lightroom. I may be biased, having a Nikon Z6 camera, but even if the drone pics are amazing when looking at them, when zoomed in in the dark areas on the sunset pic the noise is fairly noticeable. But for such a small sensor it may be good. On the other hand my Z6 costs at least three times as much as the drone. So with that in mind the pics are quite good.
Mine has just arrived. Not yet flown but I was bummed out when you said the AEB is only +/- 0.7. An image like the one you kindly supplied, with the sunset sky needs a lot more +/- than 0.7 AEB to pull off. No quibbles with the sunny pictures, which are excellent but I like to shoot in HDR situations. Now thinking of returning it and keeping my Mavic Pro which can, at least, do +/- 1.4 stops via it's 5 shot bracket (I'm only changing for portability on walks) EDIT: Maybe I can just use manual mode and take a few photos in quick succession!
Thank you so much for this insight and for the RAW files! Just having some fun right now editing and testing the quality (also increasing resolution with GigaPixel). If I’m not asking too much, would you be so kind to share a sphere file as well, when you get a chance? I am considering getting this drone to integrate the aerial view in my virtual tours (mainly in the city hence the need to a light one). Thanks a lot again, subbed!
Thanks a ton for the reviews, as well as posting sample footage - much appreciated. I was wondering what the megapixel count of the 9-shot stitched wide angle option is? Any samples of that?? :) Thanks again

As a professional photographer, I agree with you about the excellent quality of Mini images, given the limitations of the sensor size. I have to disagree, however, on your characterization of the Mavic Air 2. I was completely unimpressed with the output from that camera. First, it processes the images (both Jpeg and DNG) in a distinctively unpleasant way. Tiny details, such as leaves, are rendered either as unnatural looking artifacts, or as undifferentiated green pixel mush. I do not get that result with either the Mavic Mini or the Mini 2. In addition, the 48mp claim is basically nonesense. In no way is it equivalent to the output from a real 48mp sensor that does not utilize pixel shift. You may gain a bit of detail, but at the cost of grain and those weird filter-like artifacts that is rendered at the 12mp level. I haven't yet tried the "Hasselblad" 20mp camera on the Mavic Pro 2, but I have low expectations based on the output I have seen on the web. I am eagerly looking forward to the Mavic Pro 3, and what I hope to be a truly superior camera bearing the Hasselblad name.
I was unimpressed with the Mavic Air 2 camera at first too, but I’ve come to really enjoy editing them. They are plenty sharp and I think the colors are great.
Great vid! Do you have any ideas how to create videos for Instagram stories which are vertical? When cropping the origin footage for insta stories resolution, the quality drops dramatically :(
I was looking for a comparison Air 2 vs Mini 2. Most comparisons aim at specs. Thank you for aiming at differences at application level, particularly the missing details in the photos zoomed in, which had me think twice about the Mini 2 (having also a FF camera and a 35mm f1.4 lens). I could have lived with just Raw+AEB on the mini 2. How big is the difference in missing detail Mini 2 to Air 2 ? After all a 1/2 inch sensor is not bigger by a huge amount. From next year in the EU, a drone operator license is required anyway for the mini 2. (With some small differences between countries. In Germany it’s required because of the mounted camera, despite being lighter than 250gr.) so the light weight is only an argument for overseas travels.
Love your updates, Billy. Have you heard any rumors about the Mavic Mini getting a software/firmware update for AEB, or is the answer going to be buying the new DJI Mini 2? Thanks!

How do you think the image quality compares to the Mavic air 1? Not the mini 1, the air 1 :). I've had that drone before but had to sell it and I loved that quality
Thanks so much for such a great review and for the DNGs to look at. I've had a P4P and commercial permissions in the past and then a an MA for travel, but haven't flown for a while and was intrigued by the photo quality of this drone. It really packs some pow doesn't it! I reckon I might get this.

Still confused on what to do? :( Thank You & any input would be appreciated!
Hi, Billy, thks for your picts samples!!! I played with the panorama picts, restiched them in ICE, get with perspective almost the same result, geometrical, but very strange, for the exposition of the parts below the river came as the stiched one, but above the river, it´s very dark in comparaison, as the below part would be HDRed , the top one not!!! Is the stiched image unprocessed coming from the DJI software? Would that means that the DJI stiching is quite "intelligent" regarding the exposure composition of the stiching?!!! And yes, would be have nice to have an AEB with dome more parameters, 5 Picts and or steps freely choosable!! (as on the original Mavic Pro for exemple!!!) regards, Henri
It’s that possible to get DJI mini 3 and 4 in the next two years? Because I don’t have much space for storing the new drones. If that so, I’ll rather play my mini 1 for years before upgrade.
I'm looking for some info on how you stitch the pano photos. They come out of my sd card as nine fotos in a file with a Chrome link. Clearly, I'm missing something.
What if you start the session with shooting a color reference card first? Maybe even on several orientations? Then fly off to get what your real subjects are?
@@billykyle Oops, thanks for the reply. A color reference card on Raw lets you get back to normal. From there you could then process the images in any direction you wish. (I use it with my daughter's YT video channel) this is sketchy in golden and blue hours, but the rest of the day the sun wouldn't change as much. (This wouldn't be for the lack of zooming)
I apologize if this had been asked/covered, but is the camera head the same size as the Mini 1? Meaning, will lens filters for the Mini 1 fit on the Mini 2?
Yes filters for the mini 1 will fit the mini 2. The cameras are identical right down to the Sony sensor. The mini 1 was crippled to 2.7k because of the processor not the sensor.
@@billykyle one question. I want to practice (learn how to...) mapping. I fly a MA2 & P4Pv2. I've been using Litchi (don't really trust it but...) but looking at drone deploy. (single user) any suggestions?
About the snow pictures... honestly? Sky is noisy, land has no detail and they look great but also fake at the same time. Now, don't get me wrong. Those are miraculous pictures for a 249gr drone, but to say they are "some of the best shots I ever took" is weird in my opinion.
Quality wise? Definitely not some of the best photos I have shot. Composition wise? Probably my favorite time and place I have been to shoot photos. As they say, it's not about the gear you have. It's the user.
@@billykyle The place, perspective and moment those pics were taken are wonderful, can't disagree with that! But saying they are among the best you ever took within the first minute of a drone review automatically tells me you are underlining how great this drone is photography. And for me the camera quality of this drone is very good according to its weight but not in general, not even for its price (Parrot Anafi's camera is better imho). Really appreciate your reviews though, even if my comment makes me sound like I don't :D Keep it up!

I'm looking for some info on how you stitch the pano photos. They come out of my sd card as nine fotos in a file with a Chrome link. Clearly, I'm missing something.
Great video thank you
👍🏼
Nice review!
Thank you👊🏼
What if you start the session with shooting a color reference card first? Maybe even on several orientations? Then fly off to get what your real subjects are?
For what?
He said it perfectly
Just got mine, had a very short and scary first flight, I think the fog was messing up the bottom sensor, try again tomorrow
@C.......14 hahaha. I meant fog
Have you ever made a video on how to edit drone pictures/videos? (for a beginner)
No, but I think I should do that! Thanks for the suggestion.
@@billykyle Thank you! Looking forward to it. Love your videos
Thanks for the info!
You’re welcome!
@@billykyle one question. I want to practice (learn how to...) mapping. I fly a MA2 & P4Pv2. I've been using Litchi (don't really trust it but...) but looking at drone deploy. (single user) any suggestions?
Is mini 2 quickshots able to shoot 4k?
Thanks heaps. Subscribed.
Educational purposes!! SURE !
It is more than enough for social media
I wonder if Mini 2 can do long exposure.. like 1 or 2 seconds..
I believe it can do up to 4 seconds.
@@AlexDeForest that would be great.. thanks
thanks for the files meeeen
I guess the crucial bit of info is the megapixel count...as a current mm1 owner, I will skip and get the mavic air 2 in march - thank you
Don’t see how you can say those images are washed out ?
They look stunning on my Mac
They look much better edited. Highlights and whites in the image are very dominant
@@billykyle what software are you using to edit your photos?
Really appreciate your reviews though, even if my comment makes me sound like I don't :D Keep it up!
what the! it's cutting the pano output of each photo to 2000x1500? why god why!!!
Wow! I didn't even realize that! Thanks for noticing, what a shame.
What cover are you using for the gimble
Stock cover
MAN, DO THE MAVIC AIR 2 COMPARISON, PLEASE!!
It's coming
@@billykyle go for it Biliša, appreciate it! 💪
Great Thanks
Thank you
This is for beginners or someone wants to have fun. You can't compare this to high end drones thats just silly
And that’s exactly what I said. Thanks for listening👌🏼
