You are doing it the proper way man.
Instead of bashing you want to educate and fix the issue. I hope someone somewhere a subaru will eventually see your videos and revise how they apply silicon
🚗💥💨🔥
I hope that the manufacturer sees these videos and comes up with a solution
That seems to be what we are all hoping for
Im just tuning in to the channel… you’ve done this 29 times???
Yes
Hey, I just did a pan drop at 1200 miles with a manufacturing date 2023.12 GR86, it seems they revised the RTV application, the RTV width seems a lot narrower and we didn't see any RTV residue left within the pan.
also nothing in the oil pick-up tube it seems. This could be a good news to all the new owners!
Sometime in MFD 5/23 or 6/23 I believe there was a manufacturing change: light grey (instead of dark grey) RTV, and less of it applied at the lower oil pan. I'm not convinced as the sample size of late 23's we've dropped oil pans on, I think only one was relatively clean
Did a shop did this for you as I highly doubt there was absolutely nothing that got trapped in the pick up tube screen. @@wagjkproduction755
@@CMAutohaus a shop did it for me but I was right by and checked the pan and screen myself. Really saw nothing there, and no residue inside the pan either. Like you said light grey RTV. I didn’t snap a pic at the screen but have a photo what the pan looks like I can share with you
Agreed, thats an easy fix but if you do decide to hard track this vehicle, you're in for the oil starvation issue/oil pressure drop problems.
Great job keeping this issue on the forefront! Unfortunately I believe you are correct when you say they probably won't do anything. Until they are being sued in class action or being forced to by the government they won't change their processes, the margins of people suffering failure due to this is still too low. The question is going to be once these engines have 50k+ miles on them how many failures are we going to see do to clogged pick ups? Once more of the average, daily drivers start getting slammed we may see something happen.
Good point. Once these engines get close to the 60k service, what will we see?
Just googled.. it’s an 8 hour drive to your shop… I guess I might come up to NorCal one day to clean up my strainer 😂
Make a weekend trip out of it! Visit Laguna Seca!
@@CMAutohaus yeah would be nice to do a track day there haha
I love the toradora stickers in your track car!
I have a friend that died of a drug overdose who is like Taiga - small stature, big hair, and big personality. I love the Toradora anime, but the stickers are in memory of her.
as a subaru tech, i sent QMR with all of photos after i did oil strainer clean for my brz. that is the reply i got "Thank you for this report. There have been no engine failure resulting from this condition."
There was recently a study proving via oil pressure that the RTV did little to no affect.
I autocross the shit out of mine. My suggestions are run a heavier oil, overfill, and change frequently.
I agree. I run 5w30, +0.5L and I keep an eye on oil temps. And change oil often.
Bingo
Oil pressure is only part of the story
-You can run 1-2qts TOTAL of oil in many Subaru engines and it will build adequate pressure (oil pressure light will never illuminate)
-RTV can still make it past the strainer and block internal oil passages and the interval cam carrier filters
-No one has tested loss of oil volume from a blocked strainer
-Many have suggested the strong possibility of oil cavitation due to RTV blocking the pick up.
-Engines should NOT be sealed with an excess amount of RTV greater than specified, this is a factory assembly issue
Yea I'm definitely getting a Golf GTI instead, very unfortunate because I was so hyped up for an 86 but I'm not going to have a ticking time bomb in the back of my mind every time I drive it. Thanks for the updates.
Thanks for the watch!
So would this be considered a 'better' manufactured GR86? Or are those big dark gray RTV chunks more detrimental rather than smaller light gray chunks?
MFD 10/23 This is "supposed" to be the one with all the updates. I'd be more concerned about the smaller and skinny pieces than can make it past the oil strainer
Thank you sir
Thank you for the watch and support!
got a 24 tS on the way, hoping there's no issue for a feb build!
I’m curious, does Porsche boxer engines use RTV to seal everything like Subaru? Having resealed my 2011 FB25 with RTV, it’s such a hassle to get it not to leak working in an oily mess. Sealing that huge chain cover not to leak at all is just something god awful.
all they have to do is say it will save them around $0.05 per car on less wasted RTV. then they'll go crazy over it
Test drove a BRZ yesterday. I would only be using it on the street. Is this issue a deal killer? How many fail?
You should* be fine. I'd still follow the advice in this video ruclips.net/video/L295NqXhPvs/видео.html
I used to love subi's until I owned one and the engine blew up
Its what makes a Subaru... a Subaru!
Mine blew up and had all maintenance done. 😂 Then they tried to sell me another one😢
Which Subaru engines have this problem?
I worked for Subaru for two years and I can almost guarantee they wont do anything. The build quality has gone to hell, and Subaru doesn't care about the BRZ/86 at all. Every subaru rolling off the assembly line now needs the cam carriers resealed by 100,000 miles (in many cases earleir than 80k), at least two wheel bearings have been done by 75k, and the front control arm bushings may as well be scheduled service at 60k, and 3/4 of the OB, legacy, and foresters need a DCM. Every car I checked in I could give a repair recommendation on the drive becuase they all had the same symptoms resulting from the same problems day in and day out. Hell, the customers usually knew what the problem was because one google search showed 100+ results for what caused their concern and it was the same thing in every case. I'm so glad to be out of there because the poor product made it an awful work environment due to every customer being fed up with the recurring problems.
"poor product" and "awful work environment " just about sums up being an Automotive Technican
How much do you charge for oil pan drop rtv service?
Please send work inquires to the contact us form cmautohaus.com
Would we assume that this is still happening in WRX motors as well?
FA24s appear to be assembled in 2 plants, so it should* have the same issues. No one has confirmed yet!
So let get this straight. You got it do all of that to track a boxer engine yea it goes to Subaru too. Or it will explode. Yet you can take a civic type r or gr Corolla with absolutely no mod. Track it and still be ok to go home
Correct
No need to change anything...it's fine. Just trolls on the internet.
1. Your car has an oil filter.
2. The car is a street car (not a race car)
Felpro gasket
do you work on va vrx ?
He's a Subaru trained mechanic so I would believe so.
Yes, you can send business inquiries here cmautohaus.com/pages/contact-us
This is kind of embarrassing for Subaru
Its what makes a Subaru... a Subaru!
Just buy a used Porsche.
Lol at predicting the future... ruclips.net/video/pWQ1KV9uSAo/видео.html
@@CMAutohausDoesn’t a used Porsche present its own issues?
@@CMAutohaus This is the way. I just bought a new 718 Cayman S myself. There is no subsitute.
Man I want to take my GR86 to you guys but I live 7 hours away 🥲
