    I purchased my Renzetti Traveler back in 1997 for about $130 and it still works perfectly. It's the only real vice I've ever owned so cannot compare to anything else.

    I tied on a Dyna-King barracuda for 12-14 years and went through more the 1 pair of jaws. On big hooks I’ve experienced more slippage on it than my current vises. Have the Renzetti master and the Regal revolution, both have advantages. For holding power on big hooks I love the Regal with the Big game head and Monster head. I use my Renzetti more with trout sz flies and love it. I think I paid $10 for my first vise , which was a Universal from Herters in 60’s and tied many flies on it ! Over the years had them all and everyone has personal preferences as to their style of tying.

    I bought a Renzetti Traveler's Vise about 12 years ago and it's still kicking. Never had to replace a single part. At the time I bought it from a local Orvis shop for $159.

    I have tied on both and I like my Renzetti the best. Primarily because it is a true rotary and it makes wrapping materials and working around the fly so much easier and convenient. But, like you guys mentioned, it comes down to personal preference. Both are high quality vises. One other vise to note that is high quality is the HMH vise line.

    Great informative video. Thank you for your hard work and all the time you all spend curtis, cheech and lance doing these videos. I appreciate you giving a price point for the renzetti master. I have watched other tiers with this vise for a while and have really wanted one, but I have never been able to get anyone to give me a price. I have a traveler that I have tied on for 12 years and love it, but I would love to upgrade to a master and keep the traveler as a back up for when I do shows.

    I have the Regal Revolution and the Renzetti Traveler. To get the regal revolution to rotate on the same plane just set it at a 90 degree angle to the stem and you will be very close to true rotation. I bought the extended stem for more room under the vise, thinking I could hang a bobbin better, but I found I didn't really need it. I favor the Regal because of the simplicity of the design. You set the angle you want the head at, the tension you like in the rotation, squeeze, place hook, tie. Nothing comes loose, nothing needs to be tweaked, it just works all the time. It also feels bomb proof just solid construction.

    • @FlyFishFood
      @FlyFishFood  4 года назад +3

      Yes, you can get very true rotation at the 90 degree angle but you lose a fair bit of your usable "tying area" if it's not canted.... Not a huge deal for some people of course. Both are excellent vises!

    My first vise was a Renzetti Traveler. Good vise. However, after about 3 years, the tension screw kept coming out after tying 1-2 flies. I am a right hand tyer and when I placed my left hand on the vise to help hold materials, the left side of my left palm would literally unscrew the tension knob..every time....I got tired of that real quick plus I am not a fan of plastic screws. I now have a Regal Revolution and I like it. But using it as a true rotary vise makes it difficult to place materials as your usable tying space becomes a bit smaller. But man is it built like a tank, super smooth, brass screws...no O rings, no adjustment screws, or anything to replace...just squeeze, place hook and tie. Love it!

    I was a machinist and a spring maker before I became an electronic Tech and have serious sticker shock for a fly vice that costs $700! That is simply stunning to me. Compare that to a bushmaster 16” heavy barreled AR15 for $850. It’s like saying here is a single geared bike that costs $45,000 or you can get this Toyota Tacoma 4x4 for $46,000. It just boggles my head that anything like a similar amount of machine work, Material or expertise goes into it.i get you might only buy one ever, but just saying even to use it to sell flies off of its way, way off the chart.

    I have both and the only thing I like the Regal over the Renzetti is that when I crank down to get a tight wrap is that that Renzetti will move due to the base being light. That is my only complaint about it. I’ve gotten to where I don’t use the rotary function anymore. My flies get a better and tighter wrap of the materials. I love both vises but the Regal is slightly better for me and my style. That’s what it comes down too for me. What is better suited for my style.

    • @edwardbartlett9659
      @edwardbartlett9659 4 года назад +3

      All Regal vises are shipped as right-handed. Making the vise left-handed is a very simple procedure and only takes a few minutes. On the under side of the vise you will see a hex nut in the ball that holds the jaw handles in place. Simply loosen the nut with a 7/64’’ hex wrench and swing the jaw handle to the other side. Tighten the hex nut and you are ready to tie from the left-hand position.
