Hi Terri. I first got a hint about FlyLady while talking to Pam Young on the phone in the 90s (maybe 95 or 6.) I had just set up my Sidetracked Home Executives file box of job reminders on index cards. I was shocked when Pam told me about how some of the “SHEs” were sending out groupings of jobs as routines and reminders through email. And then FlyLady emerged in my world through a friend who was hooked. (Maybe around 2000 or early 2000s.) Anyway. 27 fling boogie and hotspot fire prevention and weekly home blessing were a part of my children’s upbringing. They still giggle at using those phrases. Sad part of this is I never really developed automatic “habits.” Even though I have the FlyLady routines taped on the inside of my cabinet door (They are just printed out emails that I made notes on. They are probably 20 years old!), I never found a rhythm. 😢 I’ve been homeschooling since 1998, our youngest is 15, and I’m 55. Something about getting older is glorious. I’ve decided to have a “year off” from beating myself up and starting thoughts and sentences with, “Oh, I should have….” Or “Darn, why didn’t I…. Nope, I’m not doing it anymore. Also, I’ve been going through a discipleship course called “The Steps to Freedom in Christ.” Oh my goodness! What a blessing! Recently, I had an epiphany and decided to challenger myself to one huge for the remainder of 2022. Starting July 1, I’ve taken a two mile walk everyday. I haven’t missed one day. It’s taught me that I can persevere. So two weeks ago, my 15 year old and I had a mini crisis (trying to find something) we started pulling things out of closets. Around the same time “An Awkward Mom” popped up on my RUclips feed. She inspired me. I started binge watching FlyLady content. Downloaded the FlyLady App. Discovered Marla’s daily live streams. Oh my goodness! I’m on Day 12 of using the routines, daily focuses, missions, and some Zone cleaning. Huge improvement already! Love your channel! Thank you!
BTW… The reason that I was shocked about Pam telling me about the email reminders, was because she seem to be saying…. “We don’t recommend card file boxes anymore.” And I had just set-up a beautiful index file box.” 😀😂😀 So funny.
@@TodaywithTerriK So glad that I found your channel Terri. You’re doing amazing, you’re very articulate, and concise, while still be compelling (interesting) and kind. The first thing that comes to my mind is, “Flying while sandwiched.” I’m fortunate to still have my parents. They are 88 and 91. We have had a lot of fun these past 20 years that they have moved to be near us. My dad got scammed in 2018 and basically gave away all their remaining money. I have their finances back on track tho. Anyway, our daughter is expecting our first grandchild in a few weeks. I’m beyond excited, but nervous about, homeschooling, giving my parents attention, and being there for my daughter and son-in-law. Oh my goodness! I’m so excited about these routines. It’s a vital starting point. I feel hopeful! So…. “Flying while sandwiched” or “Flying as a senior” 😀 (I got my first senior lunch special a few weeks ago! Yay!)
