Now I really wanna see him use it in a multitrack video lol
For a girl name for your new Soprano Trombone: Sylvia. If you want it to be a "male" trombone, then Sylvester.
Sylvester’s noice
Sylvester Stabone
I like Sylvia
Sylvia, absolutely. It just sounds like it.
4:41 Yo! Could we actually get a full arrangement of Chameleon?! That would be amazing!
I agree!!
I was about to comment about him playing Chameleon lol. I would also love a full cover.
this has to be a sign to get a soprano trombone.
dewit
Yes
You should get the pickett mouthpiece Wycliffe Gordon used
4:40 Plays Chameleon by Herbie Hancock
There’s a great video of a military band playing Flight of the Bumblebee featuring a trombone soloist. It’s very entertaining to watch and shows him using multiple size trombones, including a soprano.
"the trombone meets the bumblebee"
2:36 A Soprano Trombone, it makes a great Travel Trombone because of its size. Wycliffe Gordon plays this little guy so you should listen to him play. The Soprano Trombone is half the length of a Standard Tenor Trombone so it speaks in the same register as a Trumpet, that explains why it takes a Standard Trumpet Mouthpiece.
Maybe a Denis Wick custom version of the Wybrid. The Wybrid is Wycliffe Gordon’s trumpet mouthpiece made by picket that has a trombone sized rim but fits trumpet.
Soundin’ good Cris for the first time 😁😁😁🤩🤩🤩🎺🎺
Just got my wybrid mouthpiece for my soprano. Can’t wait to try it - mind that was big enough of an investment - a contrabass trombone I think not...
Yet!
Oh, and perhaps name it Gordon? Seems appropriate!
I was going to suggest Gordon! I always name my instruments after famous musicians who play them
I am a trumpet player and also play a Kanstul Model 150 Bb Soprano Trombone. The mouthpiece I use for this is the Austin Custom Brass Hybrid Series TF Mouthpiece, Model 3CS (silver). It will say 3CSTF on the mouthpiece. Way better than a standard trumpet mouthpiece. This gives a rich, full sound on the soprano trombone which I use for my daily warm-ups. For the name of your new tool, how about "Baby Yoda" or "Grogu", from the Mandalorian!
You should definitely name the new soprano trombone Sadie. I have no good reason, it just looks like a Sadie.
I have a trombone mouthpiece that is made by Pickett Mouthpiecs for Wycliffe Gordon. It is shallow like a teumpet mouthpiece. I got it because i was curious about it. It definatly helps having a bigger mouthpiece fot a trombonist who has thick lips like me. Im sure that mouthpiece would be great for a soprano trombone.
I actually used to have one of those sliding Trumpets. But that was because I was too small for a normal one so I began learning on a Soprano Trombone instead of a Tenor one. (I was 6 at that point)
I like your dont hug me im scared poster! That exact image has been my background to my phone for 2 years
I got that same exact soprano trombone for my birthday a couple months ago and it’s honestly pretty good!
IT'S Named Frankenstein now (or the bride of Frankenstein)
I played trombone and euphonium all the way through high school and college. I only picked up cornet my first year of teaching because two of the band's three first trumpet players were not in the stands in the fall (a cheerleader and football player). I found my focus and range increased dramatically by playing the cornet. I now teach more trumpet than low brass through virtual lessons. The transition to mouthpieces is not that hard since I use bigger trumpet mouthpieces. Like Seb Skelly and Maeve Lander have attested, it's easier to start by playing the smaller instruments first in the day, but I don't always have that luxury. It doesn't matter which I start on as long as I take time to do a warm-up first thing in the morning.
You should definetely do a trombone cover of "good 4 you"
The day you uploaded this video was the day I got my soprano trombone in the mail. Weird coincidence
That actually sounds fun. What a nice surprise.
In art school i drew the same kind of trombone that i have and i was really happy with the results and i wish you could see it
Watermelon man! I played that song on trombone in my high school jazz band!
Don't you be steppin on my toes now ;)
I could NEVER. But maybe. But never!
There was a soprano trombone at my local music shop for $200 about 4 years ago, I just had to buy it at that price. I'm terrible at it, but it's fun to pull out every now and then
You should name it "Lil B" because it's the little bone.
You should get a trombone rim and trumpet shank mouthpiece. It is wycliffe Gordon's idea and it helps so there is no embouchure shift between soprano trombone and tenor or alto trombone.
All the people out there who don’t know the difference between trombones and trumpets, you’ve got them even more confused now!!
shoulda sent a scissors and a Wahl clipper kit
This year my jazz band played chameleon and i was trumped part one so i had the melody. And ngl that sounded just like my trumpet this last year bravo dude
That's the exact same one I have! When he pulled out the case, I knew exactly what it was haha 😂
Hey Chris! Wycliffe Gordon has a soprano mouthpiece that is made for tenor doublers. Have you seen them?
Heyyyyyy I subscribed, and huge fan of your music as well.
When I play soprano, which admittedly isn't often, I like using an alto trumpet mouthpiece instead of a regular trumpet mouthpiece just to get a bit more roundness to the timbre than I get with a trumpet mouthpiece. That said, it's somewhat helpful for range, but barely, since like you I'm not a trumpet player. It's a bigger deal to just have something bright soaring over the top of the rest of the trombone choir. It's a timbral choice, not a crutch.
Christopher Bell is right it is a soprano trombone
Boney McBoneface
Oh no
i believe that James Nova uses the same rim size from soprano to contra bass.
I say call it Gordan after Wycliff Gordan.
I like the name Sparky
you should get a Wybrid mouthpiece
Man, I’d probably want that to be written like a trumpet part. Idk if I would be able to make my brain work thinking like an octave higher than tenor.
At last, another non-Wycliffe soprano trombonist!
I love the fact that you're trying to play the G in sharp second bc that's the not but Its not and it's pure comedy
Name idea: Bonito
Name it squealy. Or baby bone. Either one would be funny.
Hehe, Squealy
The horn should be called SHORTY
Baby Bleezy!
From my experiance going from lenor to alto to soprano, the weight difference is a main struggle for me. So id say get a getatone trumpet mouthpiece like i did and hopefully you can find sucsess like me
Get the trombone trumpet hybride mouthpiece. The wybrid lol. By picket and wycliffe gordon.
I think squeaky is a good name.
He's so excited lol. OOOH when there are only 400 views, I can probably assume I'm within the first 1000 to check out the link in the description pog
Edit: Just realized I don't even need it lmfao
Cool. So much fun.
I have always wanted to same something norm, but nobody helps it catch on
Hahahah, nice instrument... I play most of the brass instruments so I think playing this kinda instrument would be easier.....
You should do a cover of drive that funny soul
Yo Chris this mouthpiece would work for the soprano bone Wycliffe Gordon uses these mouthpieces for himself.
edit: chasonsmusic.com/trombone-to-trumpet-hybrid
I do have to correct you and say its actually same transposition as a Bb trumpet
I just got a trumpet. Just in time I see
Gonna need to remake the havana video
So, now you're gonna join the Mini Trombone Club with David and myself over on TikTok??? 🥰🥰📎
Just get the wybrid mouthpiece from Pickett or see if dw will make you a custom mouthpiece for it
I suggest the name Fredrithan for your soprano trombone simply because it is a silly combination of names, just as the soprano is a silly combination of instruments
Bonita!
Hey Chris you've got to make a cover with that little bone!
Call it Tainy! You know cause it's tiny 😅
Can you *PLEASE* do a cover of Kass' Theme from BOTW. There are no trombone covers out and I'm 💯 sure you could kill the song.
Is a trumpet?haha ,play t'he euphonium pleaseeee
carter maybe? it’s a neutral name and that would be super dope… OR OR name it after me…
Don't go limiting your range, the principal trombonist at PSU in 2013 could outrange all of their trumpet players (they sponsored a concert for my high school and I sat next to him), he was easy hitting the B flat 2 octaves above the bass staff
to clarify, the one in the space below the first ledger line I consider part of the staff
When he plays better high notes on the normal trombone
