College band, back in 1991: at our annual banquet while waiting for tables to be cleared for dancing, our drum line spontaneously played an entire sequence using flatware, glasses, table top, etc. Good times!
And me? Two days later? I think for me it started with checking out MonoNeon - "They're Eating The Dogs, They're Eating The Cats" and spiraled from there...
I love this. It’s not just a group of men drumming. It’s team work, it’s supporting each other, learning from each other, compromising, respecting each other. All important life lessons, but they think they’re just having fun. And schools around the country want to cut music programs when funds get tight. Don’t let that happen. My granddaughters took piano and cello during their school years. As adults they now play piano, cello, trombone, bass, guitar, ukulele, and are starting to learn the flute.
How did I miss this all these years. AMAZING!! Love this. I was drummer in Drum and Bugle Corps 1960s but they are much more talented than I was !!!! Beautiful!!❤️❤️👍
This type of percussion performance/competition was popular long before Blue Man Group and Stomp. Drum lines have been doing roll-offs as a source of pride for as long as there have been marching bands.
How fun. 8 players make an octave, as the riff at ~2:30. Would be fun to see the same routine with a mix of wood stools and metal stools. Add two metal step ladders to the mix? Would be a fun cacaphony! Keep up the fun work.
THAT was sweet! Thanks for sharing it with us! I truly enjoyed watching. 11 YEARS LATER it comes across my feed! - and no I did not do a search for anything like it.
My percussion did this in our final concert performance. It was the very last piece of the show. It took us about 2 weeks to learn and play it. It was fun. I miss those days
This takes me back to 1996-2000 when my son was in band. He was in percussion. They had some shows like this. He now is a recording producer/engineer. Still play drums. Good job guys!
Beautiful music to my ears and my soul! I am so eager as I believe the rest of the world is to get back to this for entertainment and to get rid of politics in America. God bless you for sharing. Keep playing! Love and respect from UW Madison, Wisconsin!
I've always been partial to tunes about pigeons and this one was exceptional. The guys performing it added a whole new dimension to the melody itself. Bravo to all involved.
Look up the Stomp show back in the 90s. We also saw the classic Anna Kendricks Cups routine in Pitch Perfect, although that came from Anna Burden's YT version, itself from the LandShapes YT pages. The message came from the Vocal Instrumentation extension to acappella, originally, which allowed impro percussion.
A couple years back my middle school band teacher took his most talented percussionists (one of which could play 4 mallets at a time) and taught them this for a solo and ensemble comp and they won by a huge margin bc the judges were practically drooling over the song
WOW! Quite impressive. Even the video shooting and post production (except the last man was cut out for part). Do you guys still keep in touch. So much changes in 11 years.
Wherever you lot are today, I hope that whatever you do gives you as much pleasure and joy as this video did 11 years later.

Love band geeks!
Ok.
Sep 15th 2024.... Why ever did the mighty algorithm think I needed this? Now?
I needed this now.
And me? Two days later? I think for me it started with checking out MonoNeon - "They're Eating The Dogs, They're Eating The Cats" and spiraled from there...
Same! Oct 9th. The algorithm just decided that everyone needs a little pick me up.
It's a quiet news day on RUclips - 14 Oct 2024 - 3 minutes (plus comment time) - well worth it.

Notice how every drummer from the beginning of time bobs their head as soon as they start playing? I love it!

LOVE IT! BRAVO! Love how the stools were even tuned!
A new percussion instrument is born!
The camaraderie. The energy. The fun. The chill. The humour. The ending! ❤
Well that was lovely! Perfect rhythm, timing and crispness. It was very organic, being wood on wood. Fantastic.
Very impressive and uplifting
If STOMP is still touring, go see their troupe. Its fabulous!
My 40-year-old son did something similar to this in high school. Blue Man Group and Stomp made this popular. Very fun!
