I'm approximately 500 miles north of you & I spend a lot of time on the firth of Clyde islands & southern Hebrides, so the extra few degrees of cold means that a flask of malt is an integral part of my first-aid kit!😉 .... As a rule aways carry whiskey & also make sure its over 50% Wild turkey 101 is my favourite. You don't need to justify anything you carry if you want it & are prepared to haul it then pack it. My mate insists on hiking with 5kg of frankfurters in his pack I think it may be one packet too many but its up to him.
BRILLIANT - Funniest bushcraft video EVER! On a serious note; have you tried Alcohol Hand Sanitiser? You can buy small plastic bottles of it from any chemist shop or ebay. I think you'll find it a lot more manageable to use..... and cheaper 😀

Very amusing Giles! :-) If you want more success when fire lighting with alcohol, you might try soaking a cotton wad (for example, part of an old t-shirt or underpants) and using that as tinder.

Thank you Export Wild. EBay is usually your best bet. Try searching ‘Plash Palatka’ or ‘ Zeltbahn’ or even ‘Pup Tent’ or ‘‘military cape’ There may be supply problems at the moment due to the war. Some of this gear came from/through Ukraine. Also try Military Mart (UK shop) - they sometimes have Romanian versions of the Russian Plash Palatka. Good luck 👍

If you want more success when fire lighting with alcohol, you might try soaking a cotton wad (for example, part of an old t-shirt or underpants) and using that as tinder.

Thank you Export Wild. EBay is usually your best bet. Try searching ‘Plash Palatka’ or ‘ Zeltbahn’ or even ‘Pup Tent’ or ‘‘military cape’ There may be supply problems at the moment due to the war. Some of this gear came from/through Ukraine. Also try Military Mart (UK shop) - they sometimes have Romanian versions of the Russian Plash Palatka. Good luck 👍
