the fact he didn't know if it was recording , there is a fine line between making an entertaining chess video and ranting to your self about bots in a room
😂😂 alright
what fact? he knew it was recording, dont believe in this bs he said
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He literally says "why I am telling you this is because...." He is literally talking to the camera and indirectly us
Our glorious host doesn't seem to understand what they're doing at all because he is such a low rated player and only an IM. Black and white filter slow motion soft violin. Also, the word "agreeance". I've never been able to break 600 ELO in 2 years. 😅😂🎉
I just watched Gothamchess on a toaster. After the first sacrifice, I got so excited, I punched the toaster off the table
me too!
And he sacrificed...
THE TOASTTTTTTTTTTTT!
toaster gambit
Ahh rich life struggles
Hopefully it wasn't #6 ... she is vindictive.
Levy: Do i exist?
Philosophers: good question
Fascinating
Interesting
It depends on the perspective and the definition of "truth".
If it's the perspective of another person, full proof is impossible, but you can use arguments like "it's likely Levy exists."
If it's the perspective of Levy, "I think therefore I am" applies. Or does it? How does thinking indicate that there's 'you'? If 'you' think, how do you know? Maybe you don't exist, but just your thoughts do. But again, you can argue that it's likely that you exist. Or do you? What is the definition of existence? What does it mean to exist? What if you only think you exist, but it's just an illusion? What if you do exist, but since the universe does not follow logic that fact is meaningless?
Gained a lot from this. Now I know what to spend the rest of my life thinking about.
I record, therefore I exist.
Levy choosing content be like : 1.magnus , 2.chessbot , 3.GMLevy
The gall of a chess streamer to actually make content about the most relevant topics in chess, plus himself. Absolutely outrageous.
@@KrispyNuggetBoutiquehonestly he’s so terrible for trying to make content 🙄🙄
Guess the elo
@@declanflannery😂 why so mad
4. GTE
when I made a bot ressembling my style of play it had 150 elo
OOF
i know it is a joke and all but can you actually make a bot that resemble your style? :)
@@mohammedalkhodairy gosh I hope not!
@@leonmaguire2863 it would be so cool man
@@leonmaguire2863 Yep it's quite simple if you know how to use deep learning (I don't) but the general idea would be to have ai play a game of chess with you, and if it makes the move you would or have made give it a bonus, and if it does something you wouldn't do give it punishment, continue on like this until it mimics you, then have it play a game
Levi:
I don't know if you can hear me, but I'll talk
Guys I’ve hit 800! I’m so proud of myself
Nice.
i was once a 1100 rated but i keep losing games so im still rated 860
My peak rating was 946 in January, I am now 905
Props bro keep it up 👍
nice job! keep up the good work
15:40 - “Whenever computers sacrifice material, you know bad things are about to happen”
"Pawns Don't walk laterally" Ya that will help me boost my elo, thanks
geowizard “am i recording” moment
Now all we need is a Welsh farmer going "Oi!" behind Gotham's back.
AND THEN HE SACRIFICED…. THE GAME!!!!
THE ROOOK!
That's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays out for 'em
And his name is...
JOHN CENA!!!!!!!!!
@@MrFirebirdy Wtf? That was funny tho
9:40: The reason black doesn't take pawn on A4 is because it doesn't need to; it can always grab it later, as there's no way to protect it from both rook and queen, and it isn't going anywhere. I ran in to this exact same phenomenon when I wrote a chess-playing program about 30 years ago. The moment the computer had a mating solution, it suddenly started toying with me like a cat playing with a mouse. It didn't mate me now, because it could just as easily mate me later. I had to add a special incentive "mate as quickly as possible" to fix that.
That's a really interesting emergent behavior, and it makes black's moves a lot more clear.
I wonder if black also didn't take the pawn on A4 because it values position over material. As you said, the A4 pawn isn't going anywhere. However, the Queen on C6 is controlling the entire C file, which really shuts down white's queen-side rook and b2 bishop
Big difference though that pawn on a5 like you say isn’t going anywhere but the computer should always go for the Quick Mate
@@FoxtrotSierra951No, it is that humans might simply forget and it is stressful to keep your opponent with a pawn up. On the other ha d threat might be better than its execution, making your human opponent as well excited what is going to happen with the pawn.
Leela on my PC kept drawing Stockfish 16.1. Stockfish 16.1 absolutely obliterated 15.1. Shows how strong Leela is
That’s random actually you need to play 100 game to understand
Every computer game is a draw unless a bad opening is introduced. For example openings like the Caro-Kann, French, Dutch and Benoni. The engine strength difference is measured more by their ability to survive these openings against other engines.
Of course if you let a Berlin endgame on the board it will be a draw.
How do you get 2 engines to play against each other?
@@andrewrozario2476 You play against both using different colours and then copy the moves they make maybe.
3:40 I love how Levi Trash Talks his way for like 30 seconds
These bots are like me but when they sacrifice, the eval bar shoots up while mine plummets like a plane without engines ._.
planes without engines glide as they are lighter, thus meaning you put up a valiant fight on the way down 😊
@@kaloto5738 sorry, a bird got caught in the engine as well and dragged it down far worse, which made the fight nastier and terrible
@@cookiegirl1097 im not doin this with you man just take a compliment and move on
" Bots are very precised just like AI"
Meanwhile: chatgpt promots a bishop to a queen.
edit:that is the most likes I got to a comment
AIs are trained for SPECIFIC purposes... Chatgpt and the likes are language models... They just happen to know some chess from some of their training material possibly containing SOME chess books... 🤷🏿♂️
Levy: do I exist?
Rene Descartes: not as much as a GM
:D
XD
You know the chess is good when you question your existance in the middle of it.
Levy, I so appreciate when you go move for move analysis for Chess AI! Your insight behind the moves provides a great teaching ground for all of us at low elo striving for greatness. You are an amazing person!!
Bro did anyone notice that Levy did not scream the roooooooook when Torch sacrificed the rook😂😂
😂 (i'm gonna touch you lil bro)
Leela is a character in futurama
The first thing I always remember when I think about Leela is that her badge number was 1BDI lmao
I thought it was lila like the colour in german
it's also a common name in India
For me, she will always be a character played by Louise Jameson in a series of Doctor Who episodes. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leela_(Doctor_Who)
According to Wikipedia, the original Go version of the Leela engine was named such "because the author wanted a pleasant female name that contrasted with the prevailing style at the time, typified by names like 'Shredder', 'Tiger', and 'Rebel'."
10:55 it might not just be the splitting of the pawns, but also the activity of the rook and getting it off the light square diagonal.
There is no fun in watching rook sacrifices without Levi screaming "the RRROOOOKKKKK!!! "
That 1-second death stare meant everything 😂
Stockfish watching the kids play is mad fun’y
Chess bots never fail to sacrifice everything
Agreed
Martin rn: nah id win
@@WellWellWeltnah, id lose
Yes the evaluation function(s) are generally what makes the difference nowadays between computer chess engines' strengths
Can we just appreciate Gothams work? I started last year and I am now currently 1900 FIDE thx to him
Damn your progress is crazyy
Torch and Lc0 has a new war
New war for the #2 spot. Because Stockfish slaps the shit outta them.
Stockfish just won against Leela in the Rapid Finals 10+3 with a score of 40-3.
@@wisemangasparin case you didn't know the only reason stockfish is this strong is because for a year or two now, they've been training it on Leela data, which is the strongest
@@wisemangasparalso sf won 143.5-106.5, Leela does best in longer time controls
Leela won vs torch 131-119
@@wisemangaspar It was 59 wins to 22 wins bruh
I want to see the treadmill as the bot opponent.
I fucking love Levy's Torch videos
24:58 In the endgame, chess engines look for captures (among other things). Because the game of chess is solved for all positions where there are only 7 pieces left on the board. Unfortunately, there are cases where a forced win takes more than 50 moves and the losing side is awarded with a draw. Because the rules of chess suck. The longest 7-man mate is in the KRBN-KQP ending. It is a mate in 549.
Love these, thanks, great narration!
That endgame rook vs two knights was fascinating to watch. I struggle against two knights, the fork possibilities get multiplied if I have to get my king at striking distance so I tend to miss one at some point. It was nice to see how seemingly effortlessly a bot defeated two knights with one rook.
Best Gotham video this year. I love chess videos about bots.
I want a chessbot -- Levy Carlsen
5:37 Levy: pawns cant go laterally
Chatgpt:are u doubting my power
it‘s like watching two capablancas, but the 21 century versions of them, playing each other.
Love the energy, Levy!
Greatly narrated, loved it
I love watching bots playing against each other. Interesting games.
great content and explaning Leavy keep up the good content bor
The most quiet rook sacrifice.
that opening sentence made me feel so much better about myself
"i made that up" bruh you got me haha
"do i exist?"

I am part of
YTRPD
A game review so intense that I need a nap now.
Levi never fails to propose high quality content
I really enjoyed when he explained the moves ! ^^
The people that insult Levy just to get a ‘pin of shame’ suck, and should be ashamed of themselves!
Actually levy knows that we're his bros!
Some people are so desperate for attention.
27:04 "And I just wonder, like, at what point the bots knew that those pawn would play a pivotal role in this game, I really just, that's what blows my mind, that's what fascinates me!"
12:50"It decides: Ok, pawn is good on h4, it's not really weakening my king."
Bro, the way White's a5 early in the game, losing the Pawn on a different square, ended up determining the outcome is absolutely insane.
10:20 torch advances the pawn first so the rook is forced to take it instead of the queen, which will then be forced to move to a4 anyway by the knight, thus gaining a move in tempo.
Levy never fails to hurt my soul with the stare in each video's intro
Good job telling the story. Very suspenseful. That was fun thanks.
These chess engine videos r my fav , idky but I love watching these games
Love this type of content
Would love to see Bot tournaments limited by wattage, time, or training resources. I feel, that like weight classes, this could be interesting. Almost impossible to properly enforce though.
I love chess bot review videos because we get to learns from the best chess playing things in the universe.
Nice trim
The Duras is actually vicious in prepared hands, though it is still horrifically bad objectively.
Thanks for posting!!
You learn a lot from engines. Old players still don't get it and are full of prejudices agains these amazing beasts.
Levy: I will break it down for you
Levy after 1min 69 seconds: I can't explain my!
Levy never fails to sit at his computer and watch chess
Funny enough i can see not taking pawn on a4 because while its there it completely immobolizes a3 and from that the other pieces are kinda land locked. Taking it frees it from a jujitsu lock you currrently have on it
Leela is named after the character Leela from Futurama. The first bot named Leela was a bot for the Asian board game Go and it was created as an open source implementation of the Alpha Go bot written by Deepmind. The name Leela was choosen because in Go a group needs two eyes to be considered alive and the character of Leela famously only has one eye. The chess bot was then also called Leela because it is an open source implementation of the Alpha Zero chess bot.
What a game!! This is just too perfect
looking forward to seeing AGI robots play... and after the game the losing robot trashing the table, throwing chairs... it's head exploding.
it's insane how far this AI's can see. I mean that thing you mentioned about splitting the powns, but the other option that black took on a5 with the rook and on that square the rook was captured, showing that probably splitting the powns would have been better than takeing with the rook. mind blowing
Leela got absolutely torched 🔥
Nuh uh
1:10 bro thinks he is Fabrisio Romano
One of my friends said that the purpose of chess is not to take pieces but win the game. You see these bots do weird stuff because they don't settle for "I'll just take the [whatever]". Just mindblowing.
Amazing game. Thanks for the great analysis. Do more bots, please!
Levy never fails to clickbait us.
I'd like to see a team game of the top Game vs Torch.
21:30
Hopefully someone can just give some insight
Why not go with the white pawn checking the king first.
then the king either takes it or moves out the way either way the rook then goes to the same exact square attacking the knight and the pawn
8:05 and similar moments: so interesting to see that, even someone who dedicates his life to chess, has a hard time following what actually is going on, because it is so damn high level.
I would love to see a team of grandmasters take on a team of engines. Both teams have their members vote for a move.
25:35
Torch : Rd7
Stock fish : ahh whats a disgustin....... Nevermind.
4:26 I'm sure there is, but the earliest I know is that's the name of a character in Futurama. Then again, I've never looked into it.
yes that’s where it comes from
Levy I need you to review the Distractible “CHESS 3” match, it’s pure content
Amazing!! Thank you!! Fascinating content!!! 🍻
6:45
Torch may have shifted the rook over so as to avoid being forked by the knight moving to e3.
4:24 In Poland we actualy have a name Lilianna and short version of it is just Lila (read Leela not Laila)
Leela from Futurama, older than the chess engine I imagine.
2:10 I thought this was the Důras Gambit
Gotham casually renaming the Duras Gambit
Levy never fails to breathe in his video.
imagine having one of these in your brain in the 80s and 90s clapping Kasparov etc. Nobody could even win 1 game against you. You'd be a god amongst man.
Leela was my great grandmother's name. She was also a chess bot.
levy is cracked at chess
Leela is a cyclops mutant from Futurama
23:06 Black must move knight to B6 and take the pawn after rook move even sac the knigjt for pawn
Most hilarious took sacrifice announcement in the first game
the first 13 seconds is just, so random and funny lmao
Not sure if this is relevant - but 'Lela' was the name of one of Doctor Who's companions. She was a feisty warrior type of young woman. Not to be messed with.
Finally good ai chess content, love it so much!!
Torch is insanely good ! Reminds me a bit of alpha zero
Another night, another Gotham video to watch
