ESTABLISHMENT OF THE FIRST TURKISH TRUCK FACTORY - WHY WAS THE DODGE (DOÇ) FACTORY CLOSED?

In 1961, the then head of state and government, Cemal Gürsel, who supported the establishment of the automotive industry in Turkey, pioneered a new industrial initiative by accepting representatives of the American company Chrysler Automobile Company. At that time, while the State Planning Organization considered automobiles and other passenger vehicles as a luxury, it supported the production of trucks that would contribute to the development of production within the country. In line with this view, in 1962, it was decided to establish a truck and automobile factory in cooperation with Chrysler Corporation with a total capital of 20 million lira.
