I saw your Christmas light install video and loved it. I was wondering how hard it was to get these off. It looks far easier than what I envisioned in my head. I'm going to give this a try. Thanks so much!
I believe that water and patience are all that is needed. It's a common misconception that hot glue can be used to seal against water. In actuality, water will slowly cause the hot glue to detatch, depending on the surface. I'm going to put this idea to the test and see if I'm just full of 💩. Although, I mainly put my lights on painted stucco.
Painted surfaces are always tricky. If the paint has properly adhered to the brick - the hot glue isn't going to damage it. However, there may be areas where the paint hasn't adhered properly and in those instances, the glue might pull the paint right off when you remove it. I would recommend making frames out of PVC to be safe. Standard 90 degree elbows and 1 inch PVC from the plumbing section of any big box home improvement store. You can then glue the C9's directly to the PVC.
Great content..Thanks Rick.. I have been following your channel from quite some time and got very helpful tips for Christmas lighting. I am a new home owner and one answer I could not find on internet is- can I put hot glue on the vinyl shake. I have the vinyl shake above my garage and bricks on both sides. Or is there a better way to hang my c9 lights on the vinyl shake.
Sorry, just now saw this. Thanks for the follow! The brick on the sides is going to help you a lot. I've seen people use metal fasters to hold a piece of 1-inch pvc across the top section since you can't use hot glue on the vinyl. Search "Sigma Electric ProConnex 55919M One-Hole BX Strap 3/8-Inch" on amazon or search for pipe straps for an example.
Glad I could help. Not difficult at it! If you encounter any stubborn glue residue, just use some rubbing alcohol and it will lift the edges and peel right off. Good luck with you display!
Thank you so much for this video. Exactly what i needed 👍
Glad it was helpful!

Super easy! So easy your kids can do it.

Wow!!! What kind of glue did you use?
What clips do you recommend for gutters and shingles?
HI Riley, Thanks for watching. For gutters and shingles I use these:

What would you recommend for installing on painted brick?

Excellent! Thank you bud!
Glad it was useful. Good luck with your light display!
Great info
Nice! 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Did you not spray with alcohol?
Alcohol only required for the super stubborn spots. Most will come off without it.
Thanks man, we did this for the 1st time this year. Went all leds, and i was wondering how difficult it was gonna be to get them back off the brick.

Someone glued lights to stucco....how do I get that off?
Isopropyl rubbing alcohol will lift the glue
I had garage corners I couldn’t reach. I used a long handled BBQ pit scraper/spatula and a rubber mallet. Almost as easy!
Nice work. We use what we have!
Oh man- just spray some alcohol on it. It releases its grip from whatever it’s attached to. We do this trick with mold making.
Yup. Thanks for the add. Rubbing alcohol always works on the tough spots !
