Arabic, Language and Names: A search for a uniform methodology to understand the Mus’haf

- Abstract: Arabic is known to be the medium of the Mus’haf (aka the Qur’an). But the question is what is meant by Arabic? Is Arabic the language spoken by the people of the Middle East? Who are the Arabs? Are the Arabs characterized by ethnicity or language? These questions are directly related to the heart of the language that Allah used to communicate with humans. Can Allah communicate with humans using a language that is used or invented by a small subset of the human race? If the universe is Allah’s creation, would Allah use human-made language to express himself? Wouldn’t that be a contradiction to Him pointing to all things natural around us to validate the divine revelation in the first place?
In this discussion, we shall explore the concept of language in the Mus’haf and the concept of names as expressed in the Mus’haf itself. We shall also explore, time permitting, few perspectives that are intended to help us arrive at a uniform methodology for understanding the divine revelation.
Wonderful discussion gentlemen. Thank you.
Glad to see you're back posting!
Dear Mr Ramahi,
I would like to hear your opinion on the meaning of the word „al kitab“ in the Qur’an. I think it means „the law“. As one of the references see 10:37. According to this, Qur’an contains al kitaub/kitabun.
Dear Omar,
Great effort !How can I attend your online lectures ?

Salam,
You made me reflect on the term "asmaa'a kullaha". It reminds me on the word "samaa'i". I dont think that it is coincedental that both words consist of the same root letters.
In the same way that the "sky" have different layers, a "name" or "term" may have them too. And in the same way we are taught to look at the sky to ponder and think and finally "see" the Creator, each and everything is worth to be observed and points to the One and Only.
I have watched part of this presentation (up to 1.22) and appreciate the points discussed in relation to the meanings of the word and their context. However, I will appreciate if Br Omer relates his talks to the problems faced by humanity and the Quranic perspective on solving these problems.
I got the feeling that all this is being discussed by dissociating the Quran from human issues and the world in which we live. If we cannot relate its supposed particular meanings in terms of acquiring a self which then understands the man created world with the world which Allah invites us to create so that it becomes free from fear and Huzn, then essentially we are delving into aimless philosophical arguments... total waste of precious finite life of ours on this planet.
I will discuss this point with Dr Omer asap. Kind regards
salam Brother Ejaz. Thank you for your comment. I think you may have missed the message of my discussion. The purpose was to provide a methodology towards understanding the Mus'haf. Without understanding the Mus'haf, we cannot make any use of it. It is really that simple. I don't consider this a waste of time nor it is philosophical sophistry, but rather a very high priority for any Muslim.
@@OmarRamahi2019 thanks brother for this clarification. I will be happy to elaborate my point ... the issue is ... why understand the Quran? If we do not look for what the Quran is asking to draw our attention to then we will not be able to see the context of these meanings... best is we talk about it thru WhatsApp as typing here is quite difficult. Kind regards
@@ejazrasool7443 I think Omar sir is correct. He is first focusing on causes that caused misunderstanding of Islam and trying to solve the issues from their origin or root level. Then it is anyway going to be easier to apply Quran to solve the issues. Moreover just understanding itself solves many myths we have about Islam.
@@amazinglife585 Thanks for your comments... appreciate it. Regards
The mushaf says to follow the messenger. So include hadith
Aasma could be interpreted as definitions ie., definitions of everything (aasma kullaha)
Why call it the mushaf out of interest, the word mushaf is not in the Quran
After going through all the discussion I am still confused.
Is physical salat mandatory.
I know it is my ignorance or low IQ but there is great urge to understand what Allah wants from me.
Arabic is not my Mother tongue. There are so many translation in Urdu, and obviously all claim that they are right.
salam Brother Furqan, I think we are all trying to understand what Allah has recommended or asked us to do. It is at the end left for each one of us to make his own understanding. Please see the program/discussion on Salat as that shed further light on the meaning and different manifestations of Salat.
Very extent study
Can you tell what are the things that are fard for a muslim or is the fard word is also made up.
Please use any credible Qur'an database and search for the word fardh. I think this will be an important exercise as it will reveal all places where Allah used the word fardh. In fact, you will find that in the context of Hajj, it is we who make the fardh, not Allah.. that is quite interesting indeed.
@@OmarRamahi2019 But what is obligatory other than the 5 believes that you have mentioned if you mention those things it will be helpful brother omar. And there is this hadith which is in musnad ahmed 25806 it talks about the rakat of the prayer prove this wrong it will be helpful.
@@rabbi619 salam brother. I believe the questions that you raised require a careful discussion otherwise there is room for misunderstandings.
@@OmarRamahi2019 Walaikum assalam dont be afraid brother i did not come here to do takfir ok i am just asking questions which i need to know and which is important to me so if you can help it would be good.
Thanks for the wonderful discussion. I would like to humbly put forward a few of my thoughts.
1. And He taught Adam the names - all of them…. 2:31, I strongly believe here teaching the “Naming system/process” of anything- everything. "Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful."
Except this - how else was the test between Humans and Malaika can be fair?
2. Moreover, "if you are truthful" -- this phrase is found in as many verses as is used in the case of those who oppose Allah, his messenger, the disbelievers, or the doubters. Except for this one verse !!!! And one of these Malaika (Iblis) disobeyed Allah! And Iblis was one of the jinns (18:50). That means all these ‘Malaika status holders’ may be from Jinn… !!!!
Unless what is the need to inform them about the creation of humans?
