趣 味 wa do ku sho desu. In terms of Japanese Literature, Norwegian Wood (ノルウェイの森, Noruwei no Mori) by 村上春樹 (Haruki Murakami) is my all-time favorite. I read it twice through translation -the Chinese and English versions, I watch this movie too. I read other Haruki Murakami's books. 金閣寺 (Temple of the Golden Pavilion) by 三島由紀夫 (Yukio Mishima) is excellent. 源氏物語 (Genji Monogatari) by 紫色部 (Murasaki Shikibu) - the first Japanese novel, a classic of Japanese Literature. I like it very much. I hope that I can read Japanese novels in Japanese - not through translation in the future!! Do you think I can do it? Sensei.

Thanks for the helpful video! Why do you say "koto" after some of the hobbies? And why is "koto" not used after all of the hobbies?
Good question! It’s N5 grammar!
For example..
Reading books = [verb]ing + books
こと can make a verb into noun.
🇯🇵
ほんを よむこと
hon wo yomu koto
ほん = 📚
よむ = read
こと = -ing
In order to make ‘read’ ‘reading’
we put こと(koto) next to VERB.

Novel : しょうせつ/小説 (shousetsu)
write かきます/書きます (kakimasu)
→ dictionary form かく/書く (Kaku)
わたしのしゅみは しょうせつを かく ことです。
私の趣味は小説を書くことです。
watashi no shumi wa shousetsu wo kaku Koto desu

・swimming : 水泳（すいえい）or およぐこと
・snorkeling : シュノーケリング
・surfing：サーフィン
・crocheting：あみもの
・baking：パンやクッキーをつくること or おかしをつくること

For example,
my hobby is basketball.
しゅみは バスケです。
It’s a bit confusing if it’s
playing basketball
or
watching basketball
but same as English, we can’t put a verb like ..
My hobby is play basketball
My hobby is watch basketball
We have to make it
‘playing’ or ‘watching’.
So same rule as that,
we can’t put ‘する’ or ‘みる’
then we have to change it to
‘すること’ or ‘みること’ to transform a verb to a noun.
