Difference between translocation , inversion and crossingover, if someone is confused among them . Translocation and inversion of chromosomes are mutations; crossing over is not. The reason for this distinction is that both translocation and inversion result in a change in the genetic information, while crossing over simply swaps genetic material between “like” chromosomes unchanged. Translocation can be seen as more undesirable compared to inversion, as it is more likely to result in disease, for instance infertility, cancer and Down syndrome. Inversions usually do not cause abnormalities as long as they are balanced, while translocations often result in missing or extra genes. Answer By Jody Teo (Quora)

AIO TECH When it comes to crossing over, the homologous chromosomes exchange the genetic material for recombination. In translocation, a segment of one chromosome is being removed and going to attach to the other chromosome. It's not exchanging of information, but just removal from one (shortening it) and attachment to another.
