I think after Bingo they had another miscarriage because in Bedroom, Bingo is like 3 and they still have to crib up and Bingo has been sharing a room with Bluey for at least a year and half. And Chili gets sad about the crib leaving, then when she mentions Bluey and Bingo she is some what okay then she gets really sad again. I think that’s why the 4th plant was whole then we have Bandit. I don’t think it’s for her sister.

I think the balloon popping and their reaction, even before you consider the lack of going to comfort Bingo, says a lot. Because they don't seem to get startled or have the sort of reaction that I think you'd expect someone to have when they just hear a balloon pop; they both just kind of seem to go into this sort of trance as soon as the pop happens, potentially having a sort of mini-flashback or something to when they lost their first baby.

yes, this. Just saw this video with my daughter and had to hop online to comment. I love the theory, and that the show is willing to tackle complex and nuanced topics as mentioned. I do want to say though that, as a dad, I think @aussiegirlmargie missed the mark a bit on Bandit's reaction. Yes, he knows Chili is triggered, but that hand grab is a mutual comfort thing. My wife and I do it, my parents did it, I think all couples with any significant shared life experience do it. The look on Bandit and Chili's faces right after tells the story perfectly. She's upset, and reliving the experience, hence the thousand yard stare, whereas he's shut down and basically broken for a moment. We've thankfully never had to go through a miscarriage, but we've got two kids and I can tell you that going through pregnancy, labor, and delivery with my wife, especially the first time, was a totally unique experience. I feel like how men experience the whole process is never talked about, but it's a very bizarre experience, especially in western culture where men are traditionally viewed as "the provider" and "the fixer" etc. It's just such an odd thing to suddenly find yourself in a position where there is just fundamentally nothing you can actually do for your wife. I mean I helped, and coached, and did the breathing thing, etc. but at the end of the day, she was the only one who could actually have the baby. By the the time my daughter was born, after a 40 hour labor, my wife was physically spent but I found myself emotionally drained in a way I'd never really experienced before and was, quite frankly, entirely unaccustomed to or prepared to deal with. The look on Bandit's face in this scene shows that 1000x. It's the look you see in the faces of veterans and parents who've lost a child. It's that look of absolute dejection and helplessness and self loathing for being unable to help and then being mad at yourself for being mad at yourself irrationally and then being even madder at yourself for even focusing on yourself which feels selfish and on and on. I don't want to take anything away from Chili or women who've lost pregnancies here or make this about men or something, but I thought the scene was just much deeper than was explained in the video and missing the male/dad perspective a bit.

Like another character could have that name and Chili could be a little caught off guard. Or the name could be given to a toy or some other sentimental object and when Bluey and Bingo ask what the reasoning is for it, Chili and Bandit could say that it's a very special name to them.

Here's a theory regarding Indy being the one to talk about premature babies, could she have been a preemie herself? I'm certain others have this theory floating around, I just wanted to give my two cents.
Also with Chili having Bluey being her rainbow baby, when Bluey walks to her and she starts crying, this may also be that indicator. She never got to see her first baby, never got to see them crawl, or walk, or anything that Bluey is doing. So having that now with Bluey maybe helped Chili through more of the pain she probably still felt after her miscarriage.

Oh, I tend to think so more than ever!
While "The Show" seems to be the gateway into the theory, for me it was definitely "Sleepytime". I remember showing it to my then 3 year old (who herself is a rainbow baby), and it was maybe a week or two after my wife found out she was pregnant again. Several weeks later, she found out that the child had stopped developing and when my daughter requested to see the episode again, I couldn't help but notice Mercury as the "unhatched" egg. I couldn't watch it at all for a while without completely losing it, so I would try to skip past it or recommend something else. My wife became pregnant again a couple of months later and we had our second rainbow baby at the end of April!
Can't unsee it in "The Show" at this point either.
That emotional punch was almost the same with that scene in "Onesies" where Bingo is running away from Brandy - and her arms are reaching out... OOF!
Anyway, I think it's great that Ludo and the team involved with the show are engaging kids and families with big concepts that do need to be addressed - even if they're not necessarily saying that they are at this point...
Sorry to ramble, but thanks for your videos. Always awesome to see other moms and dads out there that appreciate Bluey and share it with their kids - even if mom and dad might be the real superfans!

I think if Chili had a miscarriage that it's entirely possible that Bluey has overheard some sort of conversation about it. Because the reaction in "The Show" also seems like her parents are shocked that Bluey knew something but it ended up being completely coincidental that the balloon burst like that. Because Bluey seems hyper aware of her family members and their lives. She retains a lot of information about her parents even if they only told her something once, if she found it interesting she keeps the information in her head. I think she might not actively remember that she was supposed to have an older sibling, but kids often have ways of just knowing intimate details about their parents. Idk..

The scene where Brandy reached out for Bluey is one of the most heartbreaking scenes for me as someone who due to medical issues may not be able to give birth to their kids (though I have always wanted them). It’s something I have dealt with as my friends and acquaintances are starting to have families and something that I have been trying to come to terms with as a human. There’s definitely an emptiness that comes with that feeling and even a little bit of jealousy (which I see as the main feeling/motivation behind Brandy cutting contact). I really think the show as a whole, could (and should) tackle subjects like miscarriage, fertility issues, and adoption/different family structures. Heck for one episode they had a deaf character and their hearing mom using sign language.

Whether it's Chilli's traumatic memories of her own miscarriage or just a reaction to the idea of ever having one, I don't know--I've seen enough women reach a point in their pregnancy where they've braced themselves for the possibility of a miscarriage, and maybe rather than a miscarriage, Chilli had that moment of fear while pregnant with Bluey. Even as a man my first reaction to it was to think of a miscarriage, but I'm not 100% convinced it was intentional with that episode--I've had my moments as a writer where I've missed some blaringly obvious implications in my blind pursuit of other ideas. Now, the balloon pop is a fairly obvious metaphor, and Early Baby I believe came out earlier and as such would be a precedent for the writers dealing with difficult pregnancies, but a part of me still wonders if it was intentional or if the writers saw the fan reaction, were inspired by it, and built the lore around it.

The story of the episode "Rain" left me with my face wet, covered in tears and feeling WAY MORE IMPACTED than I was expecting for what we were given. When I watched that episode, it felt like the rain, and Chili's constant back and forth with Bluey as she runs in and out of the house is a metaphor for how parenthood can be hard, LIFE can be extremely gloomy cold and wet. Your children at times can drive you ABSOLUTELY INSANE, (infact, losing a child even is one of the ways your children can affect your heart and soul FOREVER.....Causing, of course, the rain.) but the love that remains and the patience children can teach us to cultivate.
Throughout the episode Chili tries to keep everything in order, as a parent who has lost a baby, all you'd want was your clean house, well behaved children, and everyone to be healthy and happy...
But she just can't get a break in this episode, hahahaha BLUEY BECOMES RELENTLESS! Repeatedly making her mom fix the house up, constantly needing something else for her project which might generally be considered "frivilous" by any usual dead-eyed human parent in the real world.
But for Bluey, the strength of her spirit, the result of Chili and Bandit's amazing parenting shining through this wild child's smile, it shows us how determined she becomes to make this RAINY DAY a GOOD DAY.
Through Chili's perspective, having been humbled by experiences that may have broke her in some ways, all of the rain, and the chaos, the mud, it became tiring to deal with to some extent, that is until, her (rainbow?) baby Bluey showed her that HAPPINESS, LOVE, AND EVEN FUN, can be found in INTENSE Chaos, and storms. Chili realizes that her pain doesn't define her, that she can still love life through these two amazing children she was so lucky to create, and she did an amazing job not only doing that, raising these children, but she luckily picked an amazing husband who has a gentle soul and -gets her- and supports her and the children. This family genuinely loves each other so much.
We all could learn so much from this show....
    Namaste Bluey lovers, memento mori

I just appreciate the fact that Ludo Studio just add so many little details that make people feel better about who they are or what has happened to them. Some of the things you suggested, for instance: bullying, Jack’s ADHD, anxiety and miscarriage, like this video is talking about. They really show that Bluey is for everyone, and can make people feel better. It’s truly amazing, and I think we really need to thank them for that. My own family enjoy this show so much as it’s just so cute and heartfelt. The people at Ludo Studio really are incredible, and it’s just breathtaking on how they created this. And I love how every episode is the right mix of love, family and chaos. I just love it so much 😄💞

I have to agree, I am not sure how apparent it is in the other episodes but it is pretty obvious in "The Show".I miscarried when I was 20 ( in my first trimester)and my family did not even know I was pregnant yet . I did not want or attempt to have children again till I was 37 and that baby was an early baby(34 weeks) and is currently 5yrs old. I dont think its so much a stigma as it is the grief thats comes with it. So nobody wants to talk about it

It could have been just a scary thought for them but it just seemed so personal. I think they might do an episode about this and I don’t think any kids shows have ever done that which is an interesting thought.

Tbh I think that not only they knew that Bingo would react like before but didn't want to make her feel even worse by having a bad reaction over remember a tragedy like that so they reacted as calm and collected as they could because they knew that bluey would go to console her sister while bandit and chili calmed down over remembering that traumatic experience

I watched her go through really low times. I was often told, that I'm her little miracle, that survived the premature phase but i had no idea of her miscarriage. Till my 16th birthday, she told the whole story of me and my twin. This was heartbreaking for me, that she won't talk about this for 16! Years! So i think for a woman and the whole family, a miscarriage can be really traumatizing. 😥

I have to admit that when I saw Bandit holding Chilli's hand by first time, I thought it was his way to tell to Chilli to do not go to comfort Bingo since they're in the middle of a "recreation", so if Chilli interferes, Bingo wouldn't want to continue because she caused something (that wasn't her fault at all) and all the fun was ruined and the ep would end in there.

I actually agree with this theory. I've only recently started appreciating Bluey as a wholesome sweet show, even though I'm not a parent. So it's become something of a guilty pleasure. I love the subtle nods to more adult ideas, and how the parents have to talk around them just like in real life. With that said, I think Baby Race has a little more evidence in favor of Chilli's miscarriage. It's the way she shows so much concern with how Bluey isn't developing as expected, even going to the doctor over every little thing. Every parent wants their children to be happy and healthy, so any potential sign that they aren't or they may require special needs down the line is understandably distressful. So the trauma of a miscarriage would only amplify that.

I never knew miscarriage was taboo to talk about. My mom had two, one before me and one after, and she referred to them as my brothers (she assumed because boys are prone to dying as babies), named them, and I just accepted that. I even told people quite casually that I had an older and younger brother that I never got to meet.

So, I just rewatched the sleepy time episode with my wife. Interestingly, there is one more important planet shown that no one seems to discuss, Pluto. The design for Pluto and mercury are very similar; however, one is closest to Chilli, and one is farthest away. I think this signifies the duality of Chilli's feelings towards a potential miscarriage. The miscarried child is both the closest to her heart and the most physically distal to her. Moreover, Pluto is not considered a planet, but mercury is considered a planet. This could also symbolize the two ways she perceives the miscarriage. In one way, she perceives the miscarried baby as her child; however, she may also see the miscarried baby as not a real baby. Both of these things were things my wife and I faced when we lost our first and third.

Possible way they could bring it up: Brandy gets pregnant but is more worried than excited. Bluey wonders why and Chillie explains that in the past she had lost her baby one or multiple times. Then there can be a scene where Chillie comforts Brandy and it gets confirmed, or she tell Bluey that she lost a baby too before her.
Or another character, Brandy or someone else does have a miscarriage and Chillie explains it to Bluey, and admits it happened to her too.

Aussie girl margie, this isn't related to the video but I wanted to share something I think that could bring interesting lgbt representation to the show. We know wintons parents aren't together (helicopter) and we have seen his dad on a date with a different breed in the background of the quite game, however it seems that everyone assumes the dog he was on a date with is a girl but really apart from a few expections, all the male and female dogs in the show look the same physically and we don't really know who's which gender until we hear them speak. I think it would be interesting if they made wintons dad bisexual ( first being in a relationship and having a son with a woman and then going on to dating a man), I don't honestly think I have seen a preschool with that kind of family dynamic so it would make bluey unique, do you think that could be a good idea ?

Thank you for talking about this. Despite miscarriage not really being talked about that much; As you said, it's really common. Heck, my own mom had a miscarriage a few years before getting pregnant with me. Many of us have either had or know someone who's had a miscarriage. And even though I've never really watched Bluey, I can appreciate how it takes a more general audience approach, despite airing on preschool channels (hence why it's become so popular with adults, even those without children). And I appreciate how it's not afraid to talk about common issues faced by the family. And even though it's an uncomfortable topic to talk about & can be difficult to explain to kids, I think talking about it in family/general audience shows can help ease the stigma & provide comfort to families grieving miscarriages or stillbirths.

In any other episode, I feel like it would be Chilli to comfort her and bring up what they talked about earlier. And, like, come on. Why would both parents have such a strong reaction otherwise? I think Bandit had a crush on Brandy, and also it can match a bit when you listen to the names, they all start with B but with the family we have right now, it’s almost all B except Chili breaks it all up with C! And in fairy tale, you see someone who looks like Brandy or Chili, we know it could have been Brandy, and then when Bandit is like “yeah…” “you too.” You see it’s a crush. Chili definitely could’ve pretended she had no memory but what if it was Brandy? That is one thing!

You know what if brandy and chili were pregnant at the same time. but before they both gave birth their mom died and the after feelings lead to the miscarriages to both women, since brandy was closer to their mom being the older sister it hit her harder and she just never bounced back. The depression ruined her hormones leading to multiple miscarriages.

This is a very cool video and kinda special to me because I love bluey and I’m a rainbow baby. This series is amazing and I love listening to your theory video while I’m doing other things

Absolutely support this theory. I wouldn't be surprised if they have an episode called rainbow baby in the future. I've just recently had a miscarriage myself so this does hit on a more personal level. 😢

To be honest, with the whole balloon popping under bingos shirt and Bandit grabbing Chili's hand, I did not perceive it as him comforting her after miscarriage kind of thing. I kind of interpreted it as them preparing for Bingo to throw a tantrum or at least preparing for her to run off and sulk like she did at the beginning. Because as a mother nothing is scarier than saying something happen that would have upset your child and then see the Calm before the storm happen.

I agree! My sister asked my mom: “Why did Bandit grab her hand?” And she said; “Probably because they knew Bingo was going to have a tantrum.” I agree with you.

That's what I thought as well. Bingo was about to have a tantrum because she ruined the recreation (at something it wasn't her fault at all, globes just poff without warning) and she wouldn't feel the joy to keep the fun. So Bandit was like "let's Bluey handle this".

I stumbled upon your video and was so happy I did because completely backed me up! I watch Bluey with my Rainbow Baby and like Bluey my little doesn’t know why I get teary eyed sometimes with some episodes.
Btw how do you get season 3b here in the US? My friend in Brisbane was talking about “indie” and “tradeies” and we don’t have them. Help!
