For me, one of the show's biggest strengths is that it takes kid's emotions seriously. The grownups always listen and never dismiss or downplay how the kids feel. In turn this tells the audience that emotions or reactions that we consider "childish" still matter and should be addressed as such. I think that's why it resonates so much with older viewers, even if they don't have kids. It's a gentle reassurance to your younger self that your feelings matter and that you should be as kind to yourself as Bandit and Chilli are to Bluey and Bingo.

It reminds me of the original goal of Sesame Street - teach children important foundational skills, no matter their situation. Their goal was to basically be televised preschool for kids whose parents couldn't afford to send them to preschool. Bluey seems like it's trying to do something similar, but with social emotional learning as the focus rather than letters and numbers, and I think that's incredibly important. Every child should know their feelings matter.

I grew up with a narcissistic parent (The other broke up, and tried to keep me but custody battle didn't go in their favor) and recently been struggling from that..
Bluey hits me in the feels because it explores a childhood I never got, and honestly that's beautiful. It's exactly how I want to raise my own kid some day If I have

In Duck Cake where he can't get the head right and collapses on the floor defeated, we've all been there as dads thinking we've failed our kids. You know what I realised. Characters almost always don't cry but tear up only and I believe that plays a role with the quote "If your character cries, the audience won't. If your character tries their best not to cry, *then* the audience will cry."
This show is for me one of the closest slice of life depictions I have ever seen. It's wholesome and joyous but every and then it shows how life obliterates you and pulls you back to reality. Infertility, death, having to say goodbye to people, having to move out of the only place you ever called home, poor education systems failing their students (Jack), the effects of a dad being away to the military to their own kids among many other themes. The biggest thing is how it manages to capture very small universal behavior and situations we have all lived one way or another making that connection to the characters that much more meaningful.

They never came back good, and as an adult I understand why. But as a kid, all I knew was when Dad came home from Bosnia he didn't care about me anymore. When he came back from Afghanistan, he didn't care about anyone anymore. He would belittle and bully me into the ground, then be disgusted when I wasn't the boy he wanted. Mom tried more, but she also didn't come home the same from deployment and she became hyper protective of me and had a temper that would be set off by everything. Seeing this episode was hard because I identified a lot with Rusty and Spot, but my parents were nothing like Rusty's and all I learned from them was to stay quiet and do everything in my power not to trigger people.

Now that I think about it, it seems a little suspicious to me that Bob (Bandit's father) doesn't remember his son's name despite remembering the names of his other children. Maybe it's not intentional but they could use this moment to talk about neglectful fathers and how it hurts their children. It would also be heartwarming to see how Bandit doesn't want to be like his father and try to be better for his daughters.

Honestly yeah. It's not technically 'discussed' but from that same episode, I got the impression that both of Bandit's parents weren't very good parents.
It also makes further sense then why Bandit was kind of a little shit when he was younger, and to some extent why he still carries some of those traits. Remember that episode where he and his brother played squash? Or the one where he straight up cheated when racing Bluey because he couldn't handle loosing to a child?
Don't get me wrong, Bandit's a good dude and father, but in those episodes he was kind of a dick. And both episodes definitely make him come across as insecure, something which he probably still has from his childhood.

And him being insecure over losing to Bluey to the point of cheating in the episode Obstacle, is leftover insecurity that didn't seem to get resolved, not to mention being a middle child is a whole other can of worms to tackle. Doesn't excuse what he did and fortunately does get a taste of his own medicine by the end of the episode, hopefully he'll improve as time goes on in the series cause I like Bandit and want to see him improve :)

I can't believe I'm describing a preschool-targeted show here, but this has to be the single best young children's show I've ever come across.
It blends elements of imagination and realism perfectly, and by "realism", I mean _actual_ realism. The adults in the show aren't just Mommy and Daddy, they're Bandit and Chili, individual people with their individual characters. Watching as a grown adult is very pleasurable because it's incredibly relatable to adults, especially those with children or who spend extended time with someone who has children. At the same time, watching the episodes focused on the kids feels very nostalgic, like a peek into childhood in a light that's been turned off for a long time.
The parents struggle to parent sometimes, but do their best in awkward and complicated situations in an effort to make the children happy. I've NEVER seen that on such a realistic level in a preschool show. The parents aren't those all-knowing superheroes that kids often see their parents as, they're just two people getting through life raising kids one day at a time, and they're great parents.
The show has all this going for it, AND complex, troubling situations that many can relate to. Complex situations affecting children, adults, or both on multiple levels aren't omitted. Lack of control, loss, death, hints of a miscarriage, yearning despite infertility, parents in the army, trauma that one can't remember the roots of, parents still needing their own parents, I've seldom seen these issues covered in children's shows, much less preschool shows. Then, there's the struggle of being a child and knowing you're different, and how that difference makes things harder for you and those caring for you, but you can't figure out why you're the way you are or how to be normal.
This show is just... real life with the perfect amount of imagination. I can't believe a preschool show about anthropomorphic dogs would hit home so much to adults. For many of the heavier situations, there's no big happy ending where things are fixed, but there is a sense of closure, companionship, and a sense of "Life goes on, and we can still be happy despite this" as adults comfort the children and each other. There's no undoing a miscarriage, but Chili has her two children and a loving husband. There's no cure for ADHD, but those with it are still good at a lot of things, and the right friend can make them feel successful. Past experiences relating to others who caused us harm may always be with is, but we can learn to trust again because there ARE good people out there that will honor you and earn your trust despite you having no gurantee that the bad event won't reoccur. Complex trauma-induced fears that we can't remember have a significant effect, but the right kind person can bring us comfort and help us overcome the fear.
This show is just... real all around. From slice of life, pretend games to deeply realistic traumatic situations and heartfelt happy endings revolving around moving on and accepting the past as having happened but being gone now... "incredible" doesn't begin to describe Bluey.

One of the biggest reasons that Bluey gives people these emotions is due to the fact of how relatable it is. Many parents and children have been in the same positions as the characters, thus may be able to see a bit of themselves and others in the characters.

For me, the most impactful episode was Spot's. I grew up with undiagnosed ADHD and it felt extremely relatable. I was always doing things wrong despite my best attempts and I hated myself because I couldn't understand what was wrong with me. My teachers would tell my parents I was functionally illiterate because my reading journal was empty. I'd always be reading and well beyond my classmates but I could never seem to write it down. People would scream at me for making vocal stims or shaking my legs too much. Then they tried to medically sedate me to get through class and I would literally get in fist fights with my TA to not take the pills. Just like Spot's story, the military was super helpful for me when I joined the reserves in high school, and afterwards I I finished university and even my PhD in Psychology. I really, really wish I had an adult that would have taken the time to understand me and help me in the way I needed it instead of writing me off. Watching Spot's story helped me come to terms with the childhood I didn't have because no one cared to help me, and it inspired me to help kids today going through the shit by volunteering with Big Brothers/Sisters.

I'm a mom to a toddler and I've always been really good with babies but I've never really known how to interact with kids. I feel nervous when my boy grows up that I won't know how to talk to him or he'll get bored with me. But I think people underestimate how much kids appreciate it when you TRY. You don't have to be perfect, they still like spending time with you and will always like when you're interested in their hobbies regardless.

@@Pugly I have never watched Bluey (seems like I need to; Hey Arnold! is like, my favorite thing EVER, and there seem to be some commonalities), but my friend turned on your video. When you got to Sleepy Time... You know that's Gustav Holst's Jupiter near the end, there? So if Bandit is represented that planet... He's there at the end, too. Especially since there's the bit about, "Even if you can't see me," since music is sound... ALSO! There's a song written to the melody of Jupiter, "I Vow to Thee My Country," and part of it is, "The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, that lays upon the alter the dearest and the best; the love that never falters, the love that pays the price, the love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice." Which of course is talking about giving one's life for one's country, but I think it incredibly likely that the composer for the series knew about the song and intentionally recontextualized it to be about a parent's love. Which, thinking about it, is a little ironic, because a country is often framed as a parent for which one sacrifices... I haven't thought about it much.

I never thought I’d be so invested in a cartoon show aimed for family’s and kids.. I think because my family was so broken, every episode has taught me and made me cry seeing an actual stable functioning and loving family.
Something I didn’t have and still never experienced too often while growing up.
I didn’t have too many good friends or friends either.
My brain is actually very different from other peoples. No matter how hard I’ve tried to learn new things, I forget it the next day. Even things I cherish and love. I’m able to rewatch every episode and cry all over again. To me that’s really special when a show can do that.
I have severe ADHD and chronic depression and anxiety. It’s hard to battle myself everyday with emotions and this show truly helps me stop battling those inner intrusive thoughts as well.
I honestly wish I had that when growing up. I can only imagine the things I’d be doing if I wasn’t told I should stop drawing when I was 6 years old, or being yelled at for very small things. Or being alone in the house when I was 6-17, and my parents coming home from work to yell at each other and me for being there.. I found the show Bluey for my daughter, and I prefer it over any other show, it has lovely and necessary moral messages for children, but also for parents struggling to know how to react to difficult situation and be confident in themselves. It is completely relatable, hilarious, and I a 28 year old mum of one living in a lonely country that isnt my own, and it has made me cry many times. I love watching it with my daughter, and until I saw your video I didnt know anyone else was so affected - and it turns out everyone is! That's so nice, I feel more connected to people.

Something that makes me cry even more when watching Bluey is watching my kid's response to certain parts. She's too little to talk yet, but I swear I cried harder the second time watching Sleepytime and seeing her smile grow as bingo is pulled across the galaxy on a comet to the sun, she keeps smiling the entire time chili is talking and finally tackles me in a hug when the line "I love you" is said. Bluey is just such a special show honestly I've never seen anything like it.

Bluey reminds me, that I am a person who has experienced most of life as others have but in my own way, that even though we leave behind our purest thoughts and dreams in childhood, we can still see later life as something just as fun and meaningful. We all go through hardships sometimes daily, but by putting our best foot forward we can make our future as bright as the day we can first remember. Just beautiful.

Tbh when I first saw Brandy and heard chilli say softly “she just can’t have the things she wants” I broke down crying I’ve never once felt like a character could relate to me in this way and to hear that it just got me…I can’t have kids I found out when I was barely 13 and it hasn’t gotten any better but to relate to her from a show it made me feel so amazing and seen for once

The thing I like about Bluey is that it‘s emotionally sincere. The moments ring true because of Brumm’s real experiences with his own children and it doesn’t feel the need to be patronising or emotionally manipulative in how it creates sad scenes.
There is ambiguity to a lot of the show’s mysteries. We don’t truly know about Chilli’s situation. Bingo’s dream seems more based on distorted reality. Ideas she doesn’t fully comprehend because the unknown is frightening to a kid (sleepy time is ambiguous with details about what Bingo thinks during these dreams). She doesn’t know about Chilli’s potential unborn child. Dreams don’t always make sense. I’ve had strange otherworldly dreams that feel too real and those distorted moments from my dreams I can still remember.
What I love about the show is that they never outright state things unless it’s completely necessary. Also, I do love how the show handles disabilities. It doesn’t dwell but takes the time to humanise the characters in a way that empathises with their situations.
It makes the characters feel relatable and understandable. I definitely have a lot respect for the show in how takes the characters seriously while still being a fantastic family show, not just a kids show.
Too many kids shows I’ve seen feel more incredibly shallow than nuanced and feel like they don’t really understand kids at all. Bluey does respect everyone and it’s better for it.

There are a lot of beautiful and emotional scenes. The one that always make me tear up is Babyrace. I know Babyrace is more for parents who feel they are not doing enough, but as someone who just feels like they're constantly failing just in life, to to see a cartoon dog look at the camera (as if they're talking to me) and say "You're doing great", it broke my heart but really was something I needed to hear.

From someone who grew up with some serious childhood trauma, this show - kind of hits that part of the inner child who wished they would have been loved, treated, and cared for in this matter. Watching Bluey is bittersweet, almost like healing, grief, and at the same time general like optimism.

I love that theory because it’s very touching, I personally always think that since it’s from bingo’s perspective that she might not know that so it’s hard to fully grasp the idea but I do like it never the less as a subtle nod from the animators
