Safely Lift BMW E90, E92 onto Jack Stands - BMW 335i Lifting Points

It's always important to be safe when working on cars and in this video I show you how to properly lift a BMW 335i e92 on jack stands. I also point out the lifting points where the jacks will go as well as the jacking points where you will be using a regular jack to lift the car. In the front of the car, there is a reenforcement plate and right in front of it there is a lifting point. This is where we lift the car in order to put the jack at the front. If you are unable to get your jack under the car, I show a little trick on how to get your car higher off the ground for cheap. Then we will use the rear differential to lift the car for the jack stands in the back.

ever heard about BMW's round shape jack pad adapters, there are jack stands with round shape saddles for a purpose

People also use hockey pads, I think thats what you call them.

i use diy wood cribs under each wheel. lots of extra room under car and more stable than jack stands.

@@supremerelaxation7797 By size, do you mean weight capacity? If so, I personally like to use the 3 ton jack stands
To stronger the jack the better you’ll feel using it. I went for 3 ton because these BMWs are very heavy cars. I wouldn’t go with anything less than 2 ton. I also recommend the low profile one like I have as you’ll have much easier time reaching lifting points.

Crazy how insane humans get. I had to go watch a video and remember something I have taught others in the past!?!? Completely forgot about items under the wheel, oh well getting old stinx, but what can we do. Thanks for the tip, commented, obviously, about to like the vid and finally a sub omw out. Its the least we can do for people who shared their knowledge to help another human being!
Where are you putting the Jack stands?
I like to start lifting the rear first because this way it is easier to reach the rear jacking point than when it is already lifted in the front and tilted back
but if you lift the rear first, you will have a harder time reaching the front lifting point which is the hardest part IMO.
I was driving onto the 2x4s but this is way better
Thx for the video, unfortunatly i didn't catch the exact place of the jack for the rear of the car. You stipulate "not here" but in the end i don't see where to put it.
I'm going to have the four rims painted on my 335i and i'll need a total jack of the car..
Pause at 3:50. You want to jack the rear at the axle, but not the differential cover or you could damage it. So, it has to the the actual axle itself.

I've found my E91 does not like Rennstands. One corner is always unladen. Looks like this old-fashioned way is the only way without a lift. I think it might be the extra weight of the wagon's arse over the rear jacking points.
I thought I was on the correct part of the diff when jacking the car up, but when I lowered it, I realized I was on the diff casing. The car is running well, there were no cracking noises or anything went wrong. Should I still be worried? The diff casing looks good too
Should be fine unless you see leaking fluid. If there is fluid leaking out, you might have busted the seal. It should be strong enough to hold the car up, but obviously not recommended
Can I put piece of solid square wood underneath the side jack points instead of jack stands? Piece of wood is like 1'x1'x1.5' and it is almost square with perfect top and bottom (no angles). I'd think it is much safer then jack stands.
That sounds like a bad idea on my opinion and I wouldn’t do it.
@@SimpleCarGuy Why not? I mean, solid wood is probably much better option then jack stands. It is wide and can handle any weight. You just match it with jack point and it can't miss it. I just measured it again it is 8"x6"x10" (height). Not sure what bad can happen.
@@nebojsa1976 Two things you really need to watch out for with wood:
1. There are thousands of kinds of wood. Even though maybe only 20 are common as lumber, they have differences in strength (and different each direction).
2. If you put an uneven load between the grains of the wood, it can split right down the middle. (Think of a log splitter - put a lot of force on a small area, and CRACK.) That would ruin your day.
So that's why metal is much safer.
Concrete "cinder blocks" are also prone to cracking. Maybe people use them to support junk cars without wheels, but that doesn't mean they are safe enough to work underneath the car.
Do you have a good close up picture of the front jacking point from underneath the car?
I don't have one, but you can google the front jacking point on e90 series and it should pop up. If you look underneath, there is only ONE spot that is exposed metal (not the oil pan or plug for the oil) and it's about 4x2in in size.

Your car should have the little plastic stands in there. It’s common for those to be broken or ripped off so then I would recommend replacement or some people use hockey pucks instead.
one time i saw someone lift the rear using the bottom of the diff, and it started cracking then full on went through the diff casing, i wouldn't recommend doing this! the rear subframe is a much better choice.
You have to make sure not to lift it on the cover. It must be the thick part of the diff. Subframe is an ok place as well, but I just showed what they recommend in the manual.
Don't lift a BMW by the rear diff. It's not a pickup truck! You can risk tearing the diff mount.
It says to do so in the TIS for this car.
the method is fine but why not use the proper adapter for the jackstand? not the safe way to do it at all..
The pad broke on the car, there is normally no need for adapters.

Yes, just make sure it’s the main body of the differential and not the cover

You should have 4 Jack stand points. It’s a square plastic pad.
Be careful using the mounting points mine snapped off on me.

Diff itself, not the cover. There is a clip there where I show where not to put

The 2x4 makes no "common sense " to me. A 2x10 or 2x12 is much better. But jacking ramps are the best. Which is what is used on Vette's. Good video work.
Thanks for the info! Yes, 2x10 would work better, I meant it more like a couple boards (but 2x4 is something everyone might have at home already).

Meh, I don't think it's a big deal. I've had mine on 4 stands about a dozen times and it's rock solid without special pads.

It depends. I have the jack stands with a wide and low cup (Halfords UK) and the little rubber jacking block on my E90 is an absolute perfect fit. Rock solid with no need for adapters.

throw away your Harbor Freigh Jack stands. They had a recall on them.
This video is older. I have returned them and bought different ones since.

Agreed, except the engine blew up and I put it on Jack stands to pull it out. Priorities!
